  1. The Kitty litter, will take care of the moisture. Now if you are feeding the parents moist food, then you will get wet dropings. If the nest box is big enough to take a 1ltr icecream container & kitty litter in the container. I would put that in the nest box & it will make it easyer to keep the nest clean. i just reading this now i would do what macka say rather than change whole box also what matt said and kaz very true about the minerals and water do they have iodine bell and charcol bell in cage or calcium of some type not in water soluble form although that is good i find the hens like to eat the hard bells alot durring chick raising i had moister in box due to condensation last year when i changed boxes the holes made a big diffrents veg is okay and soft mix every day so long its in small quantatys i wouldnt go changeing feeding durring raising id just cut back to small bit per day of same things also try the egg n biskit as a dry food not wet good luck moving the chicks to new box may put the hen off feeding all together small chance but it is a chance do mackas idea
  2. okay some more pics its really amazing what one week difference can be fora bird in its first molt out im very suprized in the change some birds have taken on and may need to careful what i actually move on from my breeding plan some more baby's just in aviary this one loves the pvm mix its got a pink head from eatting so much this pics got was with flash it got dark quick out side last night more to come the grey boy is really getting in a big blow i try get better shots i dont like to catch them up and put into show cages but im going to make a small photo box for in the flight and put treats their so they go and sit in it as im sick of trying to snap a good shot with my **** cam
  3. i know of a breeder whos main spangle line is from a very good looking tail less cock all hens seem to have their tails all cocks seem to lose their tails easily from their words when i asked the same question one day to them so ...
  4. feeding budgie starter warm off a bent spoon will help in this case as it contains seeds  thank you so much kaz do you just get that from pet shop i never heard of it to be honest
  5. she doesnt seem to be putting weight on but shes kicking along shes a fat little thing to look at but skinny as its not my day for photos today every single one came out stuffed so mabe as its overcast i will try again over weekend weather provided
  6. its really personal choise mate the only reason i remove eggs really is so the hen starys in condition health wize as sitting on the eggs takes a lot and destorts some hens mussels leaving a bulbus chest (not all) so if i want another go i would remove eggs but no harm waiting for her to toss them she will aventually but some times they dont and just lay more so mabe mark these ones so if she does just lay not toss you know whats what
  7. i just feed white bread rie breed is not good for nesting hens as it goes straight through them grain bread is okay but they dont really eat it much as all the grains so just normal safeway plain dollar 9 bread i give my nesting hens following dayly one slice of bread per cage one thin slice of apple or puree if have time carrots julian style just 3 little sticks water cress and silver beet and i aulternate the silver beet with english spinish one small leave per cage (i buy the packet leaves they last longer ) with the silver beet i buy a big bunch and keep it in a bucket of water with a table spoon of rock salt in it when the chicks come they get one half a weet bix each day dry pvm powder (pigion vitamin powder ) dry egg n biskit mix freash white rice and peas corn potatoe mixed vegies and i toss in a cob every once a week if theirs left over veggies from tea the birds get them mashed in morning one tea spoon per cage its not as hard as it sounds and only takes half hour of my time to preper i take all veggies and fruit (perishables out by 4 hours two on hot days ) looking forward to hearing of your first hatching  thats all on top of the seeds they get
  8. I sent these pictures to Ray Welshman, this was hes reply. ///////////// The picture. of the bird You sent does not look like a MOP as the tail feathers are in line with the body, when it is a mop they are usually angled out about 30 degrees or more on each side. They just look natural feathers to me, they appear to have plenty of blood in them I would be more worried about them being french moulters than anything and I don't even think that is the case. thankyou very much for taking your own time to help me pji the bird is still alive however i do still feel something is wrong with it she has been still eatting formula and doesnt seem interested in eatting seed yet although she has been seen to crack it shes growing into her feathers nicely and is very lively still does anyone know how i go about intergrading some seed into her diet as im afraid to add seed to the formula as i cant crack it and dont want to feed her un cracked seed shes been feed on a diet of puraee apples beef baby food for some protin with vegies and formula rearing mix she nibbles bread and greens and i put her out in aviry almost every day where she seems quiet contented her crop seems to be quiet large and low down on this hen and when feeding becomes very big on on side rather than fully so im wondering if its a problem their i will get pics today my son was nice enough to let me use his camera today so will be doing a bird photo shot later
  9. so their is hope for me lol so can i ask the out cross you used this yf hen did you pair her two the father of these boys to get the daughter then paired the daughter back to the father or no???? sorry for the questions just its interesting to see the improvement on birds as you say visually opposed to just hearing results these sorts of threads really help me to understand the bringing together of quality's to produce something great and i really want to get the understanding right before i go trying to build my own line of birds and installing a trate thats unwanted through not understanding the process The Cock bird I put to this hen was not related , What I did was blend Four lines together over two generations. to Get the resulting young birds . The Hen above , I dont really like , she has the Key hole look but she was a big bird , I mean in length and Skeleton frame. My challenge is to pair , the young to the right birds , will see how it goes. yes she may have the key hole but its that that has given the right direction with the cock you used with the other yellow face hen by looks a use full thin the key hole if paired rightly i love that look as i love to use it to enhance my birds head feather height (blow)
  10. well im inclined to say its a mild case of french molt if the bird was fully feathered then lost its tail never to regrow or could be someone pulled it out never to grow back like not on purpose
  11. what number rip i may put 10.00 on her for a place when does the race run what time
  12. welcome ellmak your not far from me if you ever need help or a bird gets ill pm me i may just have whats needed to help im sure your friends will enthrall you as mine do still to this very day
  13. How is 30th Jan to now, 10th Feb over a month GB ??? Dingo, How soon after they were laid did you candle them. You often don't see signs of life straight away. You could give it more, based on incubation time etc... or if you are 100% sure they are infertile, I'd remove them and the box and try again later if you wish. Let us know how you go. i didnt say it was over a month i said if its over a month then i would let them start again does no one read things people write on this place think its time out from here yet again im sick of being interpenetrated wrong its bad enough in the real world this was my out let but slowly it is diminishing i think ill just go eat worms..... lol

this was really kind of what i was trying to say the treatment is 45 day if birds have PSITTACOSIS what ever im never going to get that right only two weeks if they dont your flock should be doing the whole 45 day cycle and i would be treating birds exactly where they are not moving them together till after the 45 days specially lou lou and the three exposed birds you placed around as they were supposedly lonely as all these birds were more likely to attain the illness than anywhere else in your flock if lou lou only showed small sighn id say she could be a candidate carrier so i would even after treatment keep her aside for a good 6ix months to make sure the eye thing is not going to recurrent thing if it did come back with in this time slot then id take her life into my own hands if not after 6ix months id return her to flock again thats me
  15. im sorry but really things like this really annoy me the birds would not of started round three until the chicks were at least 5 to 6ix weeks on in which as matt said removal of eggs would of been the best answer hens should not be removed untill they try to harm young or cock and for no other reason unless due to health eg weaight loss crop infection illness in general which is really rare assurance i do realize you stated the oldest were 5 weeks youngest 4 but still was their eggs at all or a atempt to stop eggs happening i just hope you really did learn and remove eggs next time rather than risk chicks lives not being nasty mate just does my head in reading stuff like this i hope all turns out fine for you seems you got a handle on it now im glad to hear

Yes, and thanks to you too and GB who had the courage to bluntly prod me into a re-think. Russel Wolf's long-term forecast on the day helped me decide to put everyone on Doxy but it was your posts that prompted me to do it then and there .... I was cooking our evening meal at the time, I find I have to step aside and do something totally different for it all to sink in and put 2 and 2 together. As a result I only lost the Greygreen hen ... it could have been so much worse. well ren if your friends cant tell you what they truly believe then they are not truly your friends we do not need to be close to be able to express a honest opinion and unfortinantly for me but lucky for you i decided to come a crossed quiet blunt (why not alot of people can tolerate me ) im just lucky like myself you are quiet open to others views and opinions with out taking it deeply as it is just that their veiw and opinion glad all is now in the open just one thing do you think it wize to relese lou lou and the other three back in so soon id personally see their course out then re enter the flock with them as not to take chance of exposure to any young birds weather all birds are being treated or not id still seperatly treat these four thats me though
  18. The yellowface Cock would have to be the best proportional bird Ive bred , I would like to add a bit more across the back of his head and I would like bigger spots, Not really asking for too much am I .Thanks Clearwing. yes its clear he has got a good son from the dad but looking at unk its in the genetics the width and back scull i do like the son but whats not to say the son was not just a through back in size from the lesser brother ????NOT DISSING YOUR BIRDS MATT IM ASKING A QUESTION HERE IM SURE YOU PAIRED VERY WELL ITS OVIOUS YOUR BIRDS ARE LOVELY ...i just want to know why every one ashums its the hen thats be paired that throughs the good with the cock why cant it be the cocks good genetic linkage :question:and an avrage hen ??GB , Honstly it can come from anywhere. For Novices then secret is , Have a photographic memory , that way you will know what birds are passing on good genetics and the ones that give you nothing but what I call pet shop birds . But if your like me and that photographic memory is not developed . Then get a camera and take photos of them so you can compare and visualize whats going on. Paired hen above to sky cock , my line Produced these okay so looking at these birds id say the mums prepotant for her look ,mask spots all (as all hens look like mum ) the cocks however tend to be a mix of mum and dad the sky yf with mums spot size her direction across the eye his depth of mask all chicks gained feather above head three chicks gained mums shoulder wight and three got dads good stance would this be a good summery ????? im just trying to work out how i tell who got what very nice clutch by way thanks for the effort youve gone to with this
  19. GB I thought/hoped you didn't care and were breeding the bird that You want. if you read what i said ren i said quote how do you show good birds yet, be able to build a good line is it possible to keep 100 birds and no more and still build your own birds look ??? i am breeding my own look but to do this need a line of my own i was asking how can i achive to do this with what ive chosen to breed to achive my look and how can i keep it if i dont have alot of room or am i dreaming

    hello and welcome
  22. i know what i believe is a good bird but it is here in which lay the question the question being ????who is right who knows what a good bird is show wise my answer will be the same every time its the judge judging on the day i can only do my best to assume im heading down the right path i think i am its hard though as a small breeder with a small flock i need to keep my flock size down so ..... how do you show good birds yet, be able to build a good line is it possable to keep 100 birds and no more and still build your own birds look ??? im sure it is i will find a way just need to find it
  23. thank you for posting these mate
