Banana Leaves
Are the leaves from a banana tree safe for budgies? I know they can eat the actual bananas but I have no idea about the leaves, would there be any sap or anything that wouldn't be safe?

Cere
Banshee is definetly 13 months, no doubt about that, I bred him so I know the exact day he was hatched. Sunny was about 3 months old when I got him, and that was around 10 months ago, though I wasn't sure of his age then, he could be younger. Have I introduced him to any other hens? He lives in the aviary with 5 other hens..so I'd say the answer to that would be yes. So basically he is just maturing late. Fair enough, that is what I guessed, just wanting to make sure nothing was wrong or anything. Thanks all.

Cere
Sunny is a Sky Blue Violet Goldenface. Why do you ask?

Cere
Banshee is 13 months old, and his cere looks like this: Sunny is 15 months old and his cere looks like this: Is Sunny's cere normal? It has never turned completely blue yet, and he acts like he hasn't matured fully even..he acts young..his cere still has pink as you can see..And yet Banshee is younger than him, acts like an adult bird, and has a deep blue cere. Why?

Best Pairs?
Sonny-Nixie Louie-Sky Jasper-Snowflake Oliver-Fiona Those are just my opinons, these pairs will give you a lot of variety and some very beautiful birds. And wild_spot, I don't think Jasper is Cinnamon, his markings are light because he has not yet moulted in that picture, but you may notice they are not a brown colour, closer to grey. P.S. I wrote this before I looked at mattdog2's reply, and I just noticed all the pairings I recommended are identical to his!

What Mutation Are They?
1- Normal Green 2- Normal Grey 3-Spangle split for Recessive Pied 4-Green Dilute I think? 5-YF2 Dominant Pied Cinnamon Opaline 6-Light Green Normal 7- Bird at the back is a Normal split for Rec Pied, one at the front it possibly a Yf Dark eyed clear or Df Spangle..I don't really know. 8- No idea sorry.

Egg
Is this how a healthy 1 day old egg (or less than 1 day) is supposed to look like? Those lines are on the actual shell..you can see the yolk inside near that dark patch. So, is this a normal egg? Or is this why the mum chucked it out of the nest today?
-
Is He A Normal Green?
Don't split to Rec. Pied have a smaller spot and no pied markings on the front? Could he be a Clearflight Pied with very little pied markings?
-
Lacewing
Lacewing is a kind of composite of Cinnamon and Ino, right? What does that mean...can you pair an Ino hen to a Cinnamon split Ino male and get Lacewings? Or is it an entirely different mutation?

Lutino C. - Albino H. + Grey Green/lutino C. - Df Spangle H.
Lutino male to Albino hen- 100% Inos, 50% being Albinos if the Lutino is split blue. If not, all Lutinos. Grey-green split Lutino male to DF Spangle hen- 25% of the female chicks will be Inos (half of those being Albino if the male is split blue) 25% of the male chicks will be split for Ino. 100% Spangles. All Greens and Grey-greens, unless the male is split blue, if he is..Greens, Grey-greens, Blues, and Greys. This is all based on me not knowing what the Df Spangle is masking, however.

Throwing Egg Out Of Nest
Haha yeah that I know..I seriously think she laid it, looked at it a little while, then thought, "What the heck is this doing here? Hah this egg is so not mine...goodbye!" *chucks it out of the nest* Once she'd done that she was happy, sitting in the nest again and ready to lay her second egg. Here's hoping she doesn't do that again, but so far it's only been the first egg..It is strange.

Throwing Egg Out Of Nest
Ah okay. With this girl though, she seems to lay the egg too early for her..like she's getting it out of the way so she can further improve her nest..because with her other clutches, 2 of them she threw out the first egg, but laid the rest and raised the resulting chicks fine. Reasons she might do this though..I know for certain it was her, she doesn't even allow her mate inside the nest..and also, I put the egg back in, came back a little while later and watched her chuck it out of the nest herself. So really I'm wondering why she did this, and why any other pairs would..(if they did, I want to know reasons so I can fix it if it happens)
-
Throwing Egg Out Of Nest
True. Though the hen that just did this, this is her 4th clutch altogether (2 last year, 2 this year) so what reasons would she have?
-
Throwing Egg Out Of Nest
For what reasons would a hen throw a 1 day old egg out of the nest? (not in a colony situation of course) I know there can be a lot of reasons but I'd like a list if someone can do that please? I've just had that happen to me, and I've had it happen (rarely) before, so I'd like to know why. What I could be doing wrong, mainly. Thanks.

Male?
Are you sure it's not just because his/her cere is turning blue that it looks like a female's? I've looked through pictures of Sunny at that age, and compared it to Coal's..(his/her name) and I have to admit, Sunny's cere was a definite dark-ish pink with blue around the nostrils..while the pictures (and in real life, the pics of him I posted are the same as it looks from here) of Coal have his cere as a much lighter pink and there is white around his nostrils.. But compared to, say, Kato's cere--her being the same age as him--she is obviously a female..her cere is white with a bit of blue, and even now is turning brown. So why would Coal not look like Kato, if he/she is female? Anyway, just some things I was wondering, though now you've got me convinced Coal is a girl...if he/she is, then I'm overrun with females!

Male?
Yes. Here are some: So, male or female? I hope not female, I bought him really to even up my flock, with 2 males for 5 females I need more boys!

A Rescue Of Five Budgies
Yes I know, the person who takes care of the birds has been told that has done it..so the birds there, too, should be free of mites.
-
Male?
My new (ish) bird has started his moult, now he is almost 3 months old. I'm just making sure, he is a 'he' right? His cere is pink and I think it is starting to turn blue, that is why he sometimes looks like a female in some lights. I'm pretty certain he is a boy though, just wanted to make sure. Also, you can see the colour of his cheek patches in that photo. Is he Mauve or Grey? (I think he is Mauve..)

A Rescue Of Five Budgies
The one with scaly face has greatly improved: Though I can't see any difference in the one with feather mites..I'm sure the mites must be gone, but I guess I'll have to wait til he moults before his feathers improve.. I might be giving them back this week. The green one has had all 6 treatments (since last Tuesday) but it's not all gone yet. I will be dropping by sometimes to check on them once they are back, make sure they are being taken care of. They have become quite tame and love their grass when I take them outside, though they haven't even bothered to try any veges at all yet.

Ari's Wing Markings
Yes that's exaclty what I'm talking about. She has this V shape between her wings, and then on either side of that there's no markings at all, then her normal wing patterns start again further down her wings. It's quite strange. And something about the patterns inside that V shape are unusual too.. Yeah I think that would be very interesting to see...a budgie the size of a finch, for instance..That would look so weird!
-
Ari's Wing Markings
Okey dokey I just haven't seen the strange markings between her wings before (on other birds), I guessed it would go after she moulted..pity though, it looks kind of cool.
-
Ari's Wing Markings
Just for the sake of curiousity, I'm wondering if the weird markings on Ari's wings are normal, and if they will stay after her moult? (though she is a little over 2 months now so not too long til she moults anyway) I'm mainly wondering why her wings are like that, if it actually means anything or if she is just special? You can see the strange looking markings between her wings.. Thanks for any help on this.

Sane Or Insane Male (or Female)?
I agree, the Recessive Pied is male and the Opaline (green) is a girl. Very pretty birds.
