  1. Does no one have any guesses at least?
  2. Some pics from today. Opinions on gender and colour? I'm guessing #1 is a YF DEC male #2 blue pied female #3 YF pied (male or female?) #4 YF pied (male or female?) Too young to tell whether they are Rec. Pied or Clearflight Pied yet. They are, as of today, 18, 16, 14, and 12 days old. Replies soon please. Thanks.
  3. Took her to the vet, just got back. The actual bird vet wasn't there, but another vet saw her. Turns out she has mites and some sort of respiratory infection too, so have to quarantine her from the other birds and watch them carefully as well. So she was given stuff for the mites plus I need to give her antibiotics (Baytril) twice a day for 5 days. I hope that's all that's wrong with her..If there's no improvement though I'll take her back to be seen by the avian vet next week. As far as how skinny she is..When I caught her from the aviary she seemed alright, I can't weigh her as the smallest scales I have measures in 100 grams, so yeah. I'll be keeping a very close eye on her, at the first sign of trouble I'll take her to the vet and make sure we see the avian one. I'm hoping what my bird has is not what yours had! Thank you for the advice by the way, really helps.
  4. Alright I'll do that. Once I do how long should I wait for results, I mean if it is mites then how do I know, if it isn't and I don't go to the vet she might not be okay!
  5. Okay so do you or anyone else know if the all yellow/white bird is a YF DEC? The others sound like Clearflight or Rec Pieds, (2 YF and 1 is normal) and the fourth is too young as it doesn't even have all of its down yet. A Yellowface DEC or a very pied Rec. Pied or Clearflight Pied (with no markings) are the only options.
  6. Oh dear. That is comforting..not.. I've put her in a seperate cage now, away from the rest of the birds. I'll take her to the vet this morning/afternoon, as soon as I can get there. Also, might be worth mentioning, this bird, the whole time I have had her, whenever she breathes her tail bobs slightly. More so than normal (or what I assume to be normal, more than my other birds ever do). And now it's even worse, bobbing up and down a lot when she breathes. Could that be related? It's worse than when one of my birds is about to lay an egg, and she does not look like she is about to lay an egg...
  7. What is wrong with Ashley's eyes? I noticed something a little off with her eyes, one in particular, a few days ago..but didn't do anything as I wasn't sure..Ash has always had weird eyes, in that I am not used to seeing red eyes with pink skin, all the rest of my birds are not Albinos. But today when I looked at her (after being gone for two days) I saw this; and I knew it wasn't normal. Anyone have any ideas so to what it is? She is moulting, none of the other birds look even slightly like this, and I can't get to a vet until tomorrow at the earliest. So, advice please? Separate her, leave her in, put her in a warm cage...what to do? She's been like this for a couple days, and by nature is a relatively quiet and not very active bird, but she is as active (as Ash gets) as normal, so no fluffed up appearance etc. Acting as normally as if nothing were wrong. Her left eye is the worst one, though as you can see both are pretty bad. Is this from her moulting, or an eye infection, or? Thanks in advance.
  8. Here's a full body picture of the bird. Doesn't show the violet (he's probably violet skyblue now that I think of it, haven't seen him in a while however) well but you can definitely see he is blue. A head shot doesn't show that really well I know, sorry for the confusion. I am saying chick #1 is a DEC, it is completely white and yellow with no black or anything else. #2 is blue and black and white, #3 has yellow and black and #4 is too young.
  9. I have a friend who is breeding her male bird with my female. They now have four chicks. The male is a Cobalt DF Violet YF2 Recessive Pied (Chippy), and the girl is a Mauve SF Violet Clearflight Pied. (Kyra) She may be split for Rec. Pied, her dad was split for it so there is a small chance. My friend just sent me some pics of the babies. One of them is a collage of photos of the oldest (Skye) and his/her dad. She described them as the younger one being just like the first, except with some black pinfeathers on the wings, and the third as being like the mum. And she mentioned that Skye looks just like my YF Albino bird, though Skye does not have red eyes (also said that Skye is completely yellow as far as she can see). So, I'm guessing..(in order of age) YF DEC, YF Rec. Pied (or Clearflight Pied with a lot of piedness) and another normal white faced Pied. The fourth is too young to guess yet. Thoughts? Opinion on gender? I'll try to post more, and better, pictures later. Thanks.
  10. Alright, so if it isn't absolutely necessary I shouldn't do it then.. Thanks.
  11. Don't throw them away too early. I've had eggs hatch from between 16-28 days, from the time the hen started incubating. (you have to remember to count from the day the hen started to actually incubate the eggs) I'd give them a while more, and candle the eggs to make sure they aren't infertile or dead.
  12. Okay so is it just that eggs differ between hens, and hers are more pointed than my other girls' eggs?
  13. Would it interrupt my two breeding pairs to move them from a room inside the house to outside? In terms of distance, it's only a few feet to the left, but I know that would make a difference to the birds considering their whole surroundings would change. They are both laying eggs but nothing hatching etc yet for a few weeks. If I cover the cage and then move them, or even wait til it is dark, would they be calmer and accept the move more readily? Or can I just take the cage and move it outside and leave them, and they wouldn't abandon their eggs? Thanks for any advice.
  14. One of my breeding pairs just laid her first egg, and I'm worried about the shape of the egg. Here's a picture of it: It is very pointy, compared to this other pair's eggs, which are normal and look like this: Would the shape stop a chick from developing or hatching alright? Or would it be okay? Also, does this mean that this is her first clutch, as I've heard of birds laying weird eggs for their first ever clutch. (I got her as an adult, so I don't know if she's bred before.)
  15. Yup that's what I though too when I saw that last picture! But all the time he/she was younger he looked like a girl! Ah well..Tori is an okay name for a boy right.
  16. You mean you can't see the white? Neither can I, that's why I'm asking. I was sure she was a girl when she was younger, but the last picture is the exact colour her cere is in real life...so now I am not so sure.
  17. Agreed. And it will be a girl by the way.
  18. Is this budgie female? I think so, just not sure so would like confirmation. She's only a month old by the way. Pictures from today: And one from yesterday:
  19. Is she going to lay an egg soon? I have not seen a huge poops in the cage yet but she does not normally look like this, and her tail has been bobbing slightly etc.
  20. Okay I did mention that the mum isn't split for Rec. Pied, so it must be the dad. Thanks.
  21. If she is not Clearflight Pied she is definitely split for Rec. Pied, right, as no normal would have the spot at the back of the head? This means her dad was split for Rec. Ped then? Another question, would breeding a bird to her half-nephew be too closely related? Or would it be fine to do?
  22. I'm wondering if Tori is split for Recessive pied, or is a very lightly marked Clearflight Pied. Her parents were a Clearflight Pied mum and the dad was not visually Pied at all, though his parents are unknown. He doesn't have any pied spot at the back of his head, and I know the mum is not split for Recessive Pied. So, is she a Clearflight Pied with only a tiny pied spot and that's it, or is the dad split for Recessive Pied (but you can't see it)? If only one parent is split, you can get some splits also can't you? Here's a picture. She has no white on her front, no clear flight feathers, only that one white spot. The picture is a couple days old but the only one showing the back of her head properly..
  23. Dark-eyed Clears are Recessive Pied and Clearflight Pied.
  24. 50% Clearflight Pieds, 50% Normals, all split for Recessive Pied. All males will also be split for Lutino. If the hen is not split for blue (had one blue parent) then you will get all greens of different shades. If she is split for blue, then you will get 50% blues and 50% greens of different shades. If the DEC is not masking anything, that is.
