I wouldn't unless they were really overgrown, Our IRN had sharp nails and we took him to the vet to get it done 4 weeks ago and they are now longer and sharper than they were before. Have to go again now... Budgies are pretty good and do not get too sharp. I agree with KAZ, I use jacaranda branches and dowel in mine and they seem to be pretty good. If you really want to get them done go to the vet as they can bleed pretty easily. We will be getting taught how to do it next time hopefully - and were really confidant in out vet's abilitys he's a specilist in bird medicine. But I don't think I'll ever need to do it to any of my budgies- well I hope not...

They look really good- we have alot of samsung and they have been really good. Just one thing- extended warranty is a must, we have in the past had a lot of things breakdown (before we got the samsung ones...) and the extended warranty repalces them or fixes them without any worries. Also The Good Guys are really good for that kind of thing. Friendly and are less hastle if you ever run into any problems... Good Luck

I think you did pretty well there... Last time I went to the vet- Bob Donnerly in Toowoomba (really really good avian vet) I was taught how to clip my IRN and Budgie's wings. They said to clip the first 5 and that the bird will not be able to gain altitude, but will still be able to flutter around inside the house and in the cage ect. That is on both wings. Bigger birds you can sometimes go to 7 feathers. But you have to know the right length to clip them too as you do not want to clip too far in or it will harm the bird.

I think that all them money saved could go to homeless children and abused children. They should think about implementing minor changes like some of these in Australia... Maybe not the tents but some could be done and many people in need would benifit and hopefully not return to crime when they are older.

I think this is great... A USA JAIL - SOME INTERESTING READING USA JAIL - SOME INTERESTING READING TO THOSE OF YOU NOT FAMILIAR WITH JOE ARPAIO, HE IS THE MARICOPA COUNTY SHERIFF (ARIZONA) AND HE KEEPS GETTING ELECTED OVER AND OVER AGAIN. These are some of the reasons why: Sheriff Joe Arpaio created the "tent city jail" to save Arizona from spending tens of millions of dollars on another expensive prison complex. He has jail meals down to 20 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them. He banned smoking and pornographic magazines in the jails, and took away their weightlifting equipment and cut off all but "G" movies. He says: "They're in jail to pay a debt to society not to build muscles so they can assault innocent people when they leave." He started chain gangs to use the inmates to do free work on county and city projects and save taxpayer's money. Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn't get sued for discrimination. He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal court order that required cable TV for jails. So he hooked up the cable TV again but only allows the Disney channel and the weather channel. When asked why the weather channel, he replied: "So these morons will know how hot it's gonna be while they are working on my chain gangs." He cut off coffee because it has zero nutritional value and is therefore a waste of taxpayer money. When the inmates complained, he told them, "This isn't the Ritz/Carlton. If you don't like it, don't come back." He also bought the Newt Gingrich lecture series on US history that he pipes into the jails. When asked by a reporter if he had any lecture series by a Democrat, he replied that a democratic lecture series that actually tells the truth for a change would be welcome and that it might even explain why 95% of the inmates were in his jails in the first place. With temperatures being even hotter than usual in Phoenix (116 degrees just set a new record for June 2nd 2007), the Associated Press reported: About 2,000 inmates living in a barbed wire surrounded tent encampment at the Maricopa County Jail have been given permission to strip down to their government-issued pink boxer shorts. On the Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing pink boxer shorts were overheard chatting in the tents, where temperatures reached 128 degrees. "This is ***. It feels like we live in a furnace," said Ernesto Gonzales, an inmate for 2 years with 10 more to go. "It's inhumane." Joe Arpaio, who makes his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic. "Criminals should be punished for their crimes - not live in luxury until it's time for parole, only to go out and commit more crimes so they can come back in to live on taxpayers money and enjoy things many taxpayers can't afford to have for themselves." The same day he told all the inmates who were complaining of the heat in the tents: "It's between 120 to 130 degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are living in tents too, and they have to walk all day in the sun, wearing full battle gear and get shot at, and they have not committed any crimes, so shut your damned mouths!" Way to go, Sheriff! If all prisons were like yours there would be a lot less crime and we would not be in the current position of running out of prison spaces. If you agree, pass this on. If not, just delete it. Sheriff Joe was just re-elected as Sheriff in Maricopa County, Arizona

  9. I just had to check- But her eye's are definately black with a white iris ring. So is she a double factor spangle or a black eyed self? I'm slowly learning the genetics stuff. It's really interesting. What kind of baby's would they have?
  10. Thankyou- I changed the headding, I was meant to write Lutino... Well I am blonde- so that could be why I made the mistake...okay... Now I'm going to sound really blonde but I have never heard of a dark eyed self? Whats that.
  11. For my wedding we gave my stepson a pair of cool black sunnies- he played with them all day and we told him he looked like a gangsta and he kept himself pretty clean- he was 7

I agree with Chrysocome about the milk. Why not try mashing up some hard boiled egg instead... They really love it.

That is so great... I bet they love to help out. They look so happy in there.
  14. Hi I have a pair of budgies. They are both yellow, she has white face spots and is full yellow with black eyes. He has a yellow body- I think he's pied as he has green as well. and black eyes as well. Here are some pics of them. His cere is pink- he has bred before with the person I got him from and she said he is definately male. I have yet to breed them. My hen has a sore toe so I brought her inside yesterday- so I am taking this opportunity to bring in her mate as well and see if they will breed inside in a cage instead of in the aviary. Have them in a Large cage and will introduce a nesting box in 2 weeks.

My little hen has a partly severed toe, I have brought her inside in a cage and put a little flower on it to stop the bleeding which was slow. She seems fine, but I am going to keep and eye one her just to make sure. The toe is on an angle and I'm not sure what to do about it? Will it heal itself or fall off? It is cut just above the nail on the soft part of her foot, and not cul all the way through but the nail part now hangs to the side a bit, and it is only hanging by a thread.

I'll keep going with the Roudybush, but might find somewhere that stocks the Neocare just in case. Thanks...

Roudybush Formula 3. I always have it on hand for the Ringnecks and the vet said it would be fine for the budgies as well. What do you think of it? What do you use? I have never used Roudybush but have heard that its really good. For newly hatched chicks I normally use Neocare by Vetafarm (I think). It has all the essential vitamins and minerals for tiny babies. But as your bird is thriving I would stick with Roudybush. Some breeders say to mix a small amount of natural yogurt in with the handrearing mix but I have never done it. Thanks. I don't think I'll try the yogurt, just in case I messed it up and it hurt bub...

Snow White with her first clutch, well 2 so far. I am not too sure if they are going to be fertile as Blue Boy (who she has paired up with) is alot older and I was told there was a chance he may be infertile as he spends a lot of time kissing up to all the boys. How many days after being laid should I try and candle them- Usually I don't but I am really excited as she is such a beautiful bird.

I tried to get some good pics. He's doing great... Weighs 3grams with an empty crop. Is that okay for a 4 day old? He seems to be pretty strong and has a loud chirp. I'm really happy with the way things are going.

They are beautiful.... I am inspired to know that you were able to do it- He is doing really well today. Will download some photo's now and add them tonight.
