Balloon goes mad for the eucaliptus- has pulled the one I gave her to bits in 2 days. I have never noticed any side affects. Check all plant material for any signs of bugs and make sure they are clean before adding to the cage, but I give all my birds plenty off fresh fruit and vegies- along with the seed. And pelleted food for Chicko (Indian Ringneck). They all seem to love it- The budgies have been going for the celery a lot latley...Just make sure you take it out at the end of the day so it doesn't go bad.

I agree with mb about the save for another day. But if you really want some toys for your budgies why not try making some.. I do with my daughters all the time. You can use any bird safe materials you can find... As long as it is bird safe-- You can make swings, seed treats and anything your imagination brings...

My 2 year old Penny is just mad over the budgies but I think she is too little to have one as a pet as she is too young, would a guinea pig be okay? She is pretty gentle and loves animals. My husband doesn't like cats- and I want something small enough that she can pat and sit and play with.. Any guinea pig owners out there please give me your advice...

I like NAB- mine I chose a $500 limit and weekly I spend it and replace it the next. I find that I don't get charged interest much as I never leave the ballance there long enough to worry. Also can be linked to Fly Buys to earn extra points.

    Loved it!!!
  14. Thanks for the advice I might just stick to the books- the library has some good ones too. And Elly and Libby- if you do ever decide to do a home movie on your budgies, I'd buy it. The girls seem to be picking up pretty good habits and are great with the birds.. I'll keep reading to them- I did pick up a budgie care book (kids one) that they seem to enjoy. I want to teach them while there young and really want to learn- my step son is getting a bit older and enjoys the playstation a little too much. Im happy to say he likes the birds better though.
  15. I am looking for some kind of dvd that I can get to watch with my 2 young children about taming and training budgies- I have a few books, but thought a movie might be a little easier for them to understand. My 4 year old is really interested... I have seen these Chet Womach dvd's advertised on TV and on the net. Has anyone seen one or reccomend anything. She spends a lot of time with her bird and it is tame, came from the aviary and she chose it- and is her best friend. I would like to show her how to be responsible and also feel that as she grows she can teach her bird things...
  16. So I thought I would show you all a little of my other passion other than my Budgies. Our Ringnecks- well there my Husbands but I do most of the work... This is Chicko... I handraised him last year. Chicko and Allysa Having a Shower... And Time to dry off!!! Chicko's Parents. Hoping to get a Lutino from them this season...

Hi, Have you thought of getting your sister her own bird? To try and help the fear... Last week I got a pair of Bourke Parrots, there pink and grey and a little bigger than a budgie. But there so timid- and the great thing is that is the nature of the bird. If you could find a hand raised one of these- they don't bite and are not really squalkers- from what I've been told. There not as playful as a budgie also... I also have Indian Ringnecks- which I love, but would not reccomend with your sister around as they can get agressive. I have had some pretty good bites from Chicko- who is not 12 months old yet- and I handraised from 2 weeks old... My Husband is Chicko's favourite.. I love Alexanderines, and would Love one in the future.. I hope your sister is able to get over her fear of birds. Well I'm 25 and I was petrified of birds- would not even go into my husbands Aviary to feed his Ringnecks. I had to get over it pretty quick when I had to handraise Chicko last year... And look at me now- birds birds everywhere. Having one that she has too look after or help with that is pretty tame might really help... Depending on her age!!

Well- just candled and all except two look fertile, and I'm gussing that they probably will be just too early to tell. Will foster some a few days after they hatch..

We did buy one from Big W and I modified it a bit but thin I got adventerous and I have made 3 playgyms, one for myself first and then one for my step son, and one for my daughter which incorpirated a small part of a barbie doll castle for her bedroom. She had fun building the swings and toys for her bird... They are pretty easy and you can add whatever you like.

I thought she had finished laying but yeaterday one of the eggs hatched, and today she has laid another egg. So now she has 10 eggs and 1 baby. Have not candelled them to see if they are all fertile. But is this normal? I was quite suprised when I saw the extra egg there today, and had to double check that it was not the shell from the baby, but no, she just keeps laying. There is no problem- I'm just worried about her being able to cope if they all hatch. What do you think?

I am making pumpkin scones for my mum, and I have some fresh cooked and mashed pumpkin left over. Nothing has been added to it. Is it safe to put with the other fresh foods I give to the birds. Apple babana silverbeet carrot capsicum...

This is the Website: www.westtoowoombavetsurgery.com He is in Toowoomba QLD, Australia There is also lots of helpful info on there about Birds and all animals. Bob Doneley, one of only two specialists in bird medicine in Queensland (and one of only five in Australia), has been treating birds for more than 25 years. I really hope this can help you all.
