I have 6 baby budgies in the nest. One of the older birds 2 1/2 weeks old is missing some of the feathers on the top of it's head... I haven't seen any other birds going in the nest box and it is the only bird this has happened to. If it gets any worse I will take it out and hand feed it. But I just wanted some input before it comes to that as i believe the best place fot the baby is with it's mother. I have handraised IRN before but not budgies. My avian vet is going to ring me back this afternoon as well. I have some roudybush formula 3 handrearing formula left from the IRN's is that okay for budgies?

I colony breed and have had no problems. They are all one big happy family. There are a lot of toys and natural branches and distractions and have had no fighting.

Hi, I am just after opinions on Hand raised budgies (as in pulling from the nest and hand feeding) vs Parent raised hand tame (where you leave them with the parents and have cuddles every day). I have started breeding with my daughter as a hobby as she loves birds. I think I like the idea of the parent raising the birds so they will have all the benefits of the parents and we are still able to handle them. But as we will be giving most of the babys to friends also with children I was wondering if I should be hand feeding them- some say they are friendlier. I cant imagine the babys we have now that are 3 weeks old(minty and cinnamon) being any friendlier than they are now. But I thought I better ask. Any info on how you raise your babys would be very much appreciated. I hand raise and hand feed baby IRN's of my husbands once they are 16 days old. So I have done that before. But is it different with the different species of birds or pretty much the same?

Thankyou... They seem to be alright. Mini (the littlest baby) was fed well today and I am not so stressed.

My mummy bird has 6 babys the oldest 2 are 2 weeks and the youngest is a few days old. She seems a bit frazzled and I'm worried there are too many babys for her to feed at once. There is plenty of fresh food, seed, silverbeet carrot from the vegi garden. She was chasing her partener today for food which I have never seen before. The babys seem okay. Littlest one seems to have a seedy crop not too milky looking. I have hand raised IRN before but this is my first time with Budgies. Should I take out the 2 oldest and handraise them to give her a bit of a break? Or will they be alright? I'm a bit worried...
