I Love My Birds...
okay, so I love my birds. I started breeding budgies because I thought it would be a good experience for my daughters. And I have found I am enjoying it so much more than I thought... My husband cannot believe that I have changed so much I was freaked out by birds 2 years ago and now I spend every day with them. Yes I have turned into a bird lady! My babys are coming up on 6 weeks now and I am starting to freak about giving away some of the babys. They are going to friends. But I think about how hard it is going to be... Does it get easier?

I'm New!
Hello... I did have cockateils, budgies and lovebirds together. They belonged to my uncle and he passed them on to me. I found that the lovebirds did breed but the budgies and teils did not. We ended up selling the peachfaces and cockateils and now the budgies are breeding like wildfire.. My aviary was a birthday present from my sisters and it was second hand (cost $50) which I have found to be as good as my husbands $600 aviary.

Is It A Boy Or A Girl?
I agree it sounds like Billie is a hen.. Try keeping some little tidbits with you so when she does start to bite you can offer her something to nibble on instead of just pushing her away. Just like kids- if she likes the attention when you move her and say ow that hurt she might keep doing it. A distraction might help her stop the biting but it will take a while..

How Old?
I handle mine in the nest also. When feathered. They like a cuddle and scratch.

Feather Plucking?
Thankyou everyone for your help. I have been watching them really closley and it was one of the other babys doing it. Nipping at the head of the one chick. I removed the two babys and have been handfeeding them. The one that was nipping has now stopped and I have returned her to the aviray- I think she just wanted a bit more food and the other was getting in the way. They are both doing well. Ozzy- The one that was being nipped at has healed up well and I am going to return him to the aviary tommorrow. But I will continue to watch that his sister doesn't do it again. Mummy bird seems to be keeping up with the feeding well now...

Never Walk Outside With Fledging Babys
I was in a rush and had my 2 babys in my hands taking them to the Aviary. Cinnamon wriggled and I lost my grip and she flew away. These are my first babys and I can't believe how quickly he learned to fly. I have been sitting outside to try and catch a glimpse of him. But he just flew up and away so quickly. I hope anyone reading this never has the same experience... I feel so stupid. And upset as he is only 4 weeks and 4 days old and cannot feed himself yet. So I have condemmed him to an early death. Is there any hope that he might be able to survive on his own or come back?

Mother Bird Really Messy

How To Get An Albino?
I was wondering... If you breed a blue and a lutino is that how you get a albino? I am breeding birds with my 2 young daughters. Allysa(4) has been asking if we can have a white one. I know that is how you do it with Ringnecks. I was just wondering if budgies are the same? Thankyou!!

Mother Bird Really Messy
Hi. I have 3 questions. 1) One of my hens (Fairi) is really messy. Her whole front is covered in a brown mess. Which I believe to be the food stuck to her after feeding her chicks. I have never seen a bird this messy before. She is a great mother and is feeding the shicks well. But I just wanted to know if this was something I should be worried about. 2) This may sound strange but I have a really beautiful male Blue Boy. He does not go near any of the females... I am 100% sure he is a male. He kisses and feeds the other males. I have 2 hens that I have tried to pair him with, but he just isn't interested. I am breeding in a Aviary. He just kisses up to the boys... Should I take him out, as he seems to be distracting one of my other males who shares his time between Blue boy and Cinderella (hen who has not bred yet). 3) If I wanted to introduce another male to take blue boy's place should I wait for the current chicks to fledge.. Is it safe to introduce a male with other pairs sitting on eggs or raising chicks. Thankyou in advance for any info you have!! I spend alot of time looking up all the possibilities for my birds... So anything you have to say would really be appreciated...
