  1. Is he tame already or does he fly away from you when he is out of his cage? The main advantage of wing clipping in the early days is that it maes the taming process easier.
  2. The hassle is that over here our courses like photography tend to be run through TAFEs which unless you are a 'low income earner' you have to pay quite a chunk of money to study at. If I do it through a university it comes under the HECS scheme and the costs are deferred and payed of later when you are working, kind of like an extra tax. In order to do something like photography at uni I would have to study one of the media or fine arts type degree which require a portfolio, etc to get into generally
  3. I more just want to do something for fun and personal interest anyway
  4. Theoretically yes, but I don't really have the marks to get into a postgrad course, which is why I doubt I'll get the dip ed. Besides I would have to do it by research and I really just want to do something by coursework as I don't really have the ability to do research (in my degree area it requires field work which I can't do because I have to look after the kids)
  5. You should have at least four boxes. How big is your aviary? It is more likely the other hen that broke them unless you actually saw the cock do it. I suggest you have a read of the FAQS pages as there are some good bits on breeding
  6. Give me a bell if you decide to coe over on the weekend to chec that I'm home I'm doing a bit of running around picking up some furniture so I'll be in and out
  7. That's how we got Sascha
  8. Look much better Can I make a small suggestion though. To make it easier to put the wire on if you cut those two 'outside' bottom pieces down with a hand saw so they fit between the side bits instead of sitting on the outside of them your wire will sit nice and flush
  9. Just tell them you are looking after him for me and then...oh whoops, I guess I forgot to send him home
  10. Just send a few budgies over Maesie and they can fly it home If AV doesn't want them boh I might keep one of them. Let me know which one you want or whether you want both of them and I'll go and steal them
  11. Have you tried her in a different cage or offerred her a choice of nestboxes? Maybe she doesn't feel comfortable enough to lay. Good luck
  12. Maybe a psychological approach, put a fakey in the box
  13. Maybe it's the cock then...shooting blanks
  14. Does she need a brazillian, maybe nothings getting through? It sounds like she is out of condition, maybe take the nest box away for a couple of weeks and then give it back.
  15. Does she have calcium supplements?
  16. Where are you toohp? I am a wildlife vic volunteer. If the mother is around leave it but it may have got left behind. If you can't see the mum anywhere I would collect it in a box, keep it warm and keep an eye out for mum. If you tell me where you are I might be able to put you on to your closest carer. The wildlife number for Vic is 1300 000 WILDLIFE
  17. I know there are few talented photographers on the site and I am looking to get a hold of some digital photos to blow up (to about 18inches on the long edge) and put on my childrens bedroom walls. I'm wondering if anyone has any nice photos of Aussie animals or vistas that they would be happy to email me or I would gladly pay the cost of a CD and postage if that is easier. Feel free to share them here if you like and we can all pick which ones I only need about 6-10
  18. I'm sure you will all think I am some sort of crazy person but I am missing study so I'm thinking of starting a second degree. The difficulty is that I have to be able to do most if not all of it by distance study. I have applied for a dip ed and this is my first choice but I don't fancy my chances as the required GPA is very high for this particular one. Anyone have any suggestions? I have studied via Charles Sturt distance in NSW in the past. I don't mind where in Aus it is if there aren't residential schools required but I don't mind going to NSW/Canberra for a res school if needed. I really like the areas of environment/sustainable agriculture, education, nursing, etc. Should add mjy current degree is a Bachelor of Conservation, Biology and Ecology (basically environmental management)
  19. I don't think that is necessarily the case. Artists generally don;t make a whole lot of money (atleast not until after they die!) and the models aren't payed a whole lot either. Lookat the nudes through history, art has often favoured models who wer a little bit unusual and valued the lumps and bumps of a larger person as beauty. Is that a bad thing to learn?
  20. Time will tell Deb but she has just the same expresion on her face as my lorikeet who likes to roll on her back and play so I reckon she's just cheeky
  21. He does Neat. When I open the cage door he jumps out and runs to me and jumps in my lap for a cuddle and licks my hands He spent last night until I went to bed running around in my bedroom with the cat!
  22. These are the two big branches, note the light pole in the first one so you can see how big it is, might need to be cut down a bit. The second one has heaps of leaves on it but underneath ar good solid branches too.
  23. So you're saying your giving me my vicious hen back That's cool, she never tried to eat anyone in my aviary.
  24. It's rather cultural too, in western culture puberty is kind of hidden much like pregnancy used to be but in many culture puberty is/was celebrated and displayed.
