  1. I have had to put down my own beloved pet Nougat (a russian blue cat) of 19 years last year after a series of strokes, she wasn't quite right after the first couple of strokes but in those instances she recovered enough that she was able to lead a relatively normal life and from what we could tell she was happy. She had her final stroke one evening I suspect, when I discovered that she wasn't properly able to walk again (the same symptoms as she had after the previous ones). Normally she had to sleep in the laundry as she was a little unreliable with her bladder after the strokes but that night I had a feeling she wasn't going to be around much longer and I tucked her next to me in the bed on a towel and held her all night while I slept as I used to in her younger years, the next morning she was barely conscious, cold and breathing only shallowly. After a teary call to my mum we made the decision to speed things up for her. She may have held on for days and slowly starved to death but that would have just been not right. Im just so glad I had that last night with her, I feel she new that it was okay for her to go. Sorry got to go get a tissue now
  2. This morning I had a meeting wth the good friend of ours who will be our marriage celebrant and we signed all the forms for the marriage lcence, etc. It's getting kind of official now! Guess that means I'll have to get my act in to gear and finalise all the other ****
  3. Since the infection around his eyes was obvious that is the first thing I would be doing if I was a vet personally(I'm not a vet but used to work as a vet nurse
  4. Neocare has probiotics and predigestives in it which is what I like, but if somethings working I say stick with it

Elly where did you read about rice having no nutritional value? It is after all essentially a grass seed just like wheat, barley, etc. I would have thought it would be great
  6. I add a little sunflower and safflower to my mix in winter since they burn it off, in summer just a straight budgie mix
  7. I use a 6B pencil, nice and soft so easy to mark without pressing hard
  8. I start handling them from a week old but I check on them and turn them over with my finger from day one to make sure everything is okay. I am too nervous to actually take them out at day one after I dropped one from my last clutch (it's okay though)
  9. Chryso at this stage I do alot of the pet bird rescues where the owners can't be located, one of my galahs and the corella are both escaped birds taken in by my local wildlife rescuers and then passed on to me when it was apparent that they were not actually wild birds and their owners couldn't be found. I have done wildlife care for birds before, my first and most beloved was as red wattle bird who used to come back and visit us for many years after he was released
  10. Not messing Neat , just learning
  11. Um, I actually missed the part about the other males having families, I assumed the other boxes were empty. I agree Neat
  12. You can get special perch holders from bird places for the end of the brances to sit in. Personally I use thick wire because mice can't climb down it. Just make sure that any ends are made safe so they don't hurt themselves.
  13. It's actually kind of disturbing how many of those I have heard myself say!!!!
  14. Hi guys, I have decide that Pogo my little one legged lovebird needs a home were he will either be an only bird or be with other small birds only as he finds my large birds quite scary. If anyone knows of a fantastic home that will take great care of this little guy let me know. He has 'played' with budgies fine but obviously being a lovebird shouldn't be housed with other species permanently. He gets around fine and would probably be okay in an aviary but I think he would be great for someone wanting to tame a sweet little pet. He isn't super tame at the moment (due to my own lack of time) but I can handle him in bare hands easily and he would get tame very quickly I think. He is about 4 months old. Here's the little fella
  15. Just keep putting them in there, he'll get the idea eventually. I put sprigs of celery leaves in my nestboxes when the chicks start to pick so they get used to it from early on but if they haven't had it before they often take a while to warm up to the idea.
  16. They'd still be pretty babies, some of my aviary faves are normals
  17. Yeah, one of those babies then put back to a pied or cinnamon or clearwing bird you'd get some lovely splits
  18. I would say the first thing to do would be to take out all the nest boxes as this is what will be getting that hen all silly. Then assess your options after that
  19. So is clearwing a masking gene or a recessive? If it is recessive then I can't see how you could get normal babies
  20. How do you get normals? If the birds were carrying 'normal' then they would be visual normals since that is dominant wouldn't they.
  21. Other than that I have no idea :budgiedance:
  22. My galah's occasionally get that but it seems to disappear again just as mysteriously, I don't know what causes it because mine have good diets. You could try brushing a little edible oil on it like olive oil to help moisturise it a little, increase his vegies intake and that should give his beak a good chance to recover.
  23. I've disected a real snail at uni, it was gross!!!
  24. My boy is an outside bunny mostly and he is more the 'doin' his own thing' kind of bunny, BUT he loves the dog, they chase each other around the yard and Frank does that thing where they leap in the air and kind of flick their legs up and the dog trots after him and then he turns around and chases the dog, it's quite funny to watch If the dog lies down Frank will go and sit next to her and just look at the view together, very sweet :budgiedance:
