Carrying Budgies As Luggage On Plane Flights
Mine is slightly larger than that, about 5inches square on the end and at a guess 14 inches wide, it has three mesh 'windows' on the front and has the slide bolt type latches on the doors. It sounds like it would be fine then. Were they only one bird in them? Just wondering as from recollection there was another Melbourne member that was interested in one of your budgies...

Carrying Budgies As Luggage On Plane Flights
I have a wooden carry box that is slightly smaller than that, given a tiel is bigger than a budgie it would be okay then I would imagine. I could work out a perch for it, doesn't have any at the moment. What do you do for water? I would imagine it would spill.Out of interest how much did it cost to send the tiel? This one won't cost me anything as it is travelling as baggage with my mum.

Carrying Budgies As Luggage On Plane Flights
I tried to call the airline, sat on hold for nearly an hour and then just as someone answered...my phone ran out of batteries I think I'll try in a little while when it's pretty late, hopefully there will be less people trying to call them then and it will give my phone time to charge. The environment should be okay as they have special arrangements to ensure animals are kept safe and healthy while they are being transported, they get checked in as special baggage.

Carrying Budgies As Luggage On Plane Flights
Not here Elly, there are no animals allowed in the cabin here, they all have to go into the hold as baggage.

Bread?
Personally I wouldn't have my budgies sitting on the edge of my plate! I have seen my budgies poop on the perch and then walk through it and your probably getting a nice sprinkle of feather dust on your toast too. Ewwwww...

Carrying Budgies As Luggage On Plane Flights
Can anyone tell me what the requirements are for carry boxes for budgies as luggage?(Qantas specifically) I have a wooden carry box but I'd like to know if it is suitable and big enough also, the website only lists the requirements for cat and dog cages, I've been on hold with the airline for 30min already!!

His Colour?
Front onwould help heaps! Is the colour blotchy? It looksa little like it could be going by that tail, maybe it's a pied but really can't tell without seeing the whole bird. I LOVE how clear the feathers are on his head, not even a shadow of a bar

Bossy Budgie
I don't think it matters too much about the height of your seed bowls, I just try to keep them lower than the water bowls to decrease the chances of the water becoming ful of seed :hap:

Help New To The Budgie World
How old are they? (if you aren't sure post a photo and we might be able to tell you.) There is piles of useful info under 'Budgie FAQS' on the top right of this page, your best bet would be to have a good read through that and then come back with any other questions you have. I would keep them somewhere calm and quiet for the moment as they are probably a little scared and bewildered.

Egg Laid 4 Days Apart
The hen I have nesting now always seems to lay the last one three days apart! Maybe sometimes it just takes a while to work up to the next one, I take it as a sign that she is running out of egg laying steam and that she needs a rest from laying after that clutch.

Hen Laying
This is about the right time for her to start laying again, she's just taking advantage of empty real estate

Urgent Advice Needed Please
True but if the chicks will die overnight due to the cold then leaving them out in the aviary isn't going to help anything anyway. Atleast this way there is a chance he will keep feeding his babies, which is better than nothing.

New Cock!
What about stormy since he is the colour of storm clouds... As far as 'variety' if we assume she isn't carrying blue then all of your babies will be green and could be spangles(wing markings like mum) or normals(wing markings like dad), that's assuming they aren't hiding anything

Urgent Advice Needed Please
Hey there, thought I would answer your PM on here so that others can use the info in future. For others: the cock has not gone into the nestbox with the chicks to keep them warm overnight. So... is it a good idea to bring the chicks inside? I would suggest that they will need to be kept warm and it would be a good idea to keep dad with them since he is feeding them. I would bring the box AND dad inside and keep them in a warm spot. The babies will be starting to be able to maintain their body temp at that age but not if it gets really cold since I assume they are outside at the moment.

New Cock!
The feathers on his head is just new pin feathers coming through, he is moulting that's all He is what's known as a show type budgie, just so you know you will only get green babies from those two unless your female is carrying blue, if you want blue or grey babies you will need to get a different female.

Urgent Advice Needed Please
If your male is feeding them I would leave him to it or the moment and go out just before dark and check whether or not he is in the box with them, he probably will be. Also add some millet sprays to the box so that they start learni9ng to feed. If he looks like he is struggling to keep them fed you could leave them with him and just supplement the feedings a couple of times a day. As long as he is in the box tonight I would leave him to it for the moment, he sounds like a good dad.

Critique My Wing Clip
In all honesty I HATE the work, but it's good money so it will do. Maybe my hatred is due to a daily battle with Arcview though, it's an awful program! I plan to work in environmental education so it's a long way from my intended career!

Exciting News
I have a seperate area in my house with two bedrooms and it's own private bathroom, partitioned off from the rest of the house by a door. I have rented it out before and it worked really well, plus we can have whatever pets we like! Pity you are so far away. I also now of a great two bedroom place on a hobby farm in Gisborne, but that's probably too far away also.

Are her parents green? Is the colouring on her wings grey or cinnamon?

Cuttlefish..
Not alot but I know that people with pet/bird seed stalls sell it at the markets on the mornington peninsula. I'm guessing they walk along their local beach for enjoyment and just pick it up at the same time.
