  1. These two have already worked out that if they tilt their heads to the sides they'll get e nice scratch from their people mummy
  2. I guess the thing is that most mutations we name as their parts ie. opaline clearflight, etc. Dutch is just a name for a bird of a specific combination of characters
  3. Maybe?? My dutch pieds have clear flights
  4. Are these my ones or the others? Two of the hens are in condition which means they look dark brown and kinda crusty if that's what you are talking about.
  5. time to trade in that book Neat!
  6. In humans eye colour blue/brown is like this. One of our kids has blues which we felt was impossible since as far as we new all my partners family had brown eyes. When we started tracing the genes it turns out that on my other halfs side they have come down four generations in brown eyed people to turn up randomly in one of our kids!
  7. What's the diff between dutch and dom?
  8. You are right on your thought on the green split to white thing. Some people refer to the base(white or yellow) colour some refer to the blue or green series. I am pretty sure that dutch and danish is just whether they are dominant or recessive as I have only just managed to wrap my head around that one as I have dutch(dominant) pieds ;)Unless by white they mean abino?
  9. My mum gets violently ill on cheese, it is much worse than milk for her
  10. They look red in the photo to me too Are you positive they aren't a very dark plum colour, sometimes they can be so dark it's hard to tell. Can you get a close up of the side of her face?
  11. That is absolutely horrific. I find it incredible that they even ended up with them in the first place! Personally if I ownded a pet shop I wouldn't be taking birds that were sick at all.
  12. I've always found that odd too Neat??? A wildlife caer I know uses that inner balance supplement for humans for all her birds and animals, I thought I might try that instead
  13. Birdluv we don't actually have any pics at al
  14. Sad to hear he has died I must say the birds at the sale down here were all looking great so it is awful to hear that your sale was so bad. I thought he was a red rump, I have a pied RR male in my aviary quite similiar I didn't realise the white one was a RR too though she's pretty!
  15. White marbles or small smooth white pebbes would be my recomendation. I always stick them in my pocket to warm them up before adding them to the nest if there are other eggs in there already
  16. We have some great avian vets in Melbourne
  17. The funny thing is he doesn't seem to be doing it out of fear, he preens my hand and then gets harder and harder with his preening until it becomes chewing!!
  18. That's a great price BC, you would be hardpressed to buy them for that price in Melbourne. The guy isn't budging o the price so I'll have to think about it. Thanks
  19. What's that pied critter hiding in the back there? He's pretty.
  20. Is that for a hand reared or an aviary reared?
  21. I'm pretty sure it's a cock, interestingly from my last clutch the one with the best temperament was the hen. The cere's of both these babies are identical to each other and that deep even pinky purple that says it's a boy
  22. Well yes, my statement assumes you are positive that it is the male causing the problem and not the hen, which as Libby says is more likely.
  23. I would remove the male personally, she will most likely lay again and the eggs should be fertile (they can store the males sperm for a couple of weeks) and let her raise them on her own. If she has lots of babies you might need to help her with the feeding but up to four she should be okay. With him in there you won't get any babies at all at this rate. Also make sure that the eggs are not simply thin from lack of calcium, she may be breaking them with her weight if they aren't very strong.
  24. Hey guys, I have two chicks just fledging now, boths cocks. The older one has a beautiful temperament but the other seems to have a bit of youngest child symdrome and will hard nip as part of grooming behaviour when I take it out for handling. Is there anything I can do to settle this? They are both supposed to be going as single pet birds but if this is going to be ongoing I might advise the person to wait for one from my next clutch.
