  1. My perfectly sighted birds fly into the wall sometimes, but to answer your questoin a blind bird would not cope very well they would be best to have their wings clipped. I doubt he is going blind but if you are worried get your vet to have a look at his eyes.
  2. I bet they wouldn't look so content if they knew what they wil be doing tomorrow
  3. Sorry Kaz I generalised before I went bck and found the post, I just remembered a bunch of people saying get a friend, couldn't remember who though.

  6. Isn't this the bird we discussed in the other thread and everyone decided a friend for it would be best...
  7. Actually Sailorwolf there is alot of use of restricted pet species by sanctuaries and zoos. For example Healesville Sanctuary regularly buys animals from pet sources, these include marsupials, birds and other natives species, they also regularly sell their own animals into pet homes.
  8. Clean up sorted Trust me you don't want to know the details
  9. I don't blame him kids are hard work!
  10. There are also many highly successful captive breeding programs. Just because an animal is captive it isn't automatically inferior to it's wild counterparts. One of the other major reasons captive birds shouldn't be released is the spread of disease. This is especially true for restricted species which may not have many individuals remaining, a disease from cative birds could wipe out the entire population
  11. Awwww.... those two so need a nest box AV
  12. A male is probably a better option as he will work towards getting her to bond with him.
  13. I think you will find they tend to have more in captivity and even in captivity 16 is highly unusual. I used to breed show rats and the largest litter I ever had was 12 and that only ever happened once.
  14. Don't worry AV, given what she has been through she is probably better off in the small cage for a few days. I might be able to russle up a spare cage over the weekend for you to borrow unti she is out of quarantine if you like
  15. I sit on my phone for hours Maesie and on the net at the same time. I am with virgin wireless. My fiance lives in NSW so my world pretty much revolves around the phone. It's been great
  16. Thanks Kaz, I'll comtemplate that while I eat my dinner
  17. The half grown ones aren't too worldy wise so they are pretty likely to end up dog bait
  18. Sounds great, he sounds very happy with his little patch of lawn Good for him too
  19. Your probably looking at about 8 youngsters on average
  20. lot of species here do that because of our strong wet-dry cycles
  21. They can determine relatedness on mitochondrial DNA that far back but that will only trace the maternal line not the fraternal line
  22. The straw is good for the quails Liv, they like to nest in it :hap: However it definately needs to be replaced.
  23. Not chemicals, MOULD.
  24. You need to reduce the size of your photos Pearce :hap: Theoretically it looks good but just wondering whether it's just me screen or whether there is mould on those lawn clippings? I would be removing them if there is... What you need to look for is rat holes. Also do your budgies tend to sleep hangin onto the wire? If you don't have a guard around the bottom of the wire to stop rats climbing it then they may have just climbed the wire and taken chunks out of them trhough the wire while they slept.
