Eastern District Budgie Auction (melbourne)
Well I went to my first Auction today out at Box Hill. It was great! I really enjoyed the day. I've gotta say I am very tired now but it was great just gong to observe. I didn't buy anything, I'd made that decision before I went I just wanted to go and observe today... But for anyone that is interested... After scratchings there were 242 birds up for Auction, the most paid was $880 and the minimum paid was $20. The average price worked out to be around $100. Watson Birds seemed to be the more popular birds to buy... I went through in the beginning and had a look at the birds, the ones I thought would do well did, apart from a couple which fetched around $40... All in all it was a really fun day!

not sure, I am going to the Auction tomorrow though, if she is there I'll ask. She was having trouble archiving her PM's so I am having a bit of difficulty getting in contact with her too...

Eastern District Budgie Auction (melbourne)
Just a query, on the website it says that everyone that enters must put down their name, address, phone number, club name and signature... if you don't belong to a club can you still go? I've never been to a budgie auction and thought it would be a good experience but am not a member of any club... do I just put N/A in that column??

Miracles Do Happen After All!
I'm not sure if MB has a camera that is working at the moment... I might have to give her a call and see if I can come over sometime to have a look at them myself. I'll take my camera if we can work something out.

I'm Moving...
Well I am happy to announce that I will be moving next year around February. We are building a property down in Derrimut (about 15 minutes away), we've signed all the paperwork, and now we're just waiting for the land to be subdivided and the house to be buit... I'm already trying to plan on where the Avairy is going to go... I figure to start with it will be a little 3X3 set up something like DAZ's original design. If I am smart enough to figure out how to do that (I am not a Mr Fixitkinda bloke unfortunately) I like the idea of having part indoor part out door flights and then having the remainder of the breeding cabinets/cages inside the shed structure... We will be right beside some "Native Grassland" that is basically just over grown weeds that the council doesn't want to mow but I'm hopeing to have a native garden in the front and some fruit trees out the back... I will probably pop in to this thread from time to time and post some pictures of the progress on the land/house... very exciting.

Really I didn't know that no one bird won. I thought there was a Best in Show award. I also didn't know that they were only ever 1 year old, you learn something new every day...

Pairing Some Of My Birds.
Oh No! I hadn't picked up on the YF. In that case I wouldn't pair them together as I don't think you can show YF DF Spangles. It would be a waste of good birds. Thats the interesting thing with showing... some gorgeous looking birds can be a complete waste... I personally hope that you still do this pairing just because I'd love to see a YF DF Spangle... but hey thats just my opinion... speaking from a purely non showing point of view

1 + 1 = ?
got any thoughts about what you're considering pairing him up with MB?

Figure This One Out Peoples

1 + 1 = ?
That would mean lacewing hen chicks yeah??
-
1 + 1 = ?
No it hasn't Kaz... I am totally unsure of its sex now. I have some pictures where people say it looks male others where people think it is a female... Like MB said, we have now paired it up to a female to see if it decides to let us know its a male one thing I will say is this, Len (lacewing) was doing some head bobbing and prancing in front of Lip (spangle) a while back when I had them. At the time I remember thinking hmmm maybe she's a he... I asked on here and some one (can't remember who) said that some hens do it... I am a little worried pairing the lacewing with another hen when there is a nest box around though... is there a chance they'll fight over the box even if there isn't a male around?? The Spangle is a hen out of condition (she is now in condition and has laid 4 eggs at MB's) The Lacewing was paired to an opaline cock and they arn't interested at all. MB and I have been talking about trying to pair it up with a female to see if it is a cock but I'm not sure if she has any particular hen in mind... When I show this picture I get told cock: when I show this I get told hen:
