  1. It was really good of you to offer them a new home and they are beautiful birds.
  2. We got 2 walls covered with wire today. While we were doing the roof i decided that i think it would be better to put a sheet of laserlite on the breeding room to let some light in so the roof will not get finished now till i get the laser lite.
  3. That explains a lot Dave, it is the 4 young ones i got from you that have decided it is more fun to stick together than find other mates.
  4. Great to have you back, mate. Love to see baby pics.
  5. Can i ask is it normal for brothers and sisters to pair up?
  6. I was wondering is there are a certain time of year that budgies will be mating lots. For the past 3 days i have been outside working on the new avairy and everytime i look in the aviary at the budgies there are a couple of pairs at it. It seems to be a bonk anyone time as well, I have brother and sisters at it and half of them are younger than 9 months old. They also seem to be swapping partners as well. I have seen one hen be with 3 different males.Lucky i have cut the log in half so there is no nesting places in there.
  7. Congratulations MB
  8. i am so sorry to hear that things keep going wrong with your budgeis, i really hope good things start coming your way.

She is feeding herself, once i gave her a little container with food in it she will not let me feed her at all.
  10. Half the roof was done today and got some wire up but had a couple of accidents with the wire which slowed things down. Somehow my hubby and son measure up a length of wire wrong and it ended up too short. It will end up being used on the side where the door will be. Then i accidently toss a piece of wood on top of another length of wire my son was cutting and put a hole right in the middle of it. This piece will get used on the door some how. So we spent most of the day cutting out new pieces of wire.
  11. They are pretty Babies, baby number 1 is very pretty.

I have tried that speech on my kids but it did not work. They told me "if there are lots of starving children then i should post the vegies over to them "

You are right about the peas, she peeked at the carrot and corn but it was the peas she threw away the most.

Roxy had a busy day today, i gave her vegies for the first time and she had more fun throwing them out of the container than eating them. I also put some branches in her cage and she worked out today how to perch on them. She feeds herself now and manages to always have a full crop. My little girl is growing up so fast.
  15. i am so sorry to hear of your loss, it is awful when you lose a chick.
  16. You did have a very busy day but it is good to hear that you got more work done. Hopefully Ken can get alot done while he is on holidays.

I am a barefoot person but i have learnt it is not a good idea to walk into a chook pen to collect eggs without your shoes. Do you know it is very hard to get the smell of chook poo off your feet.
  18. I never had a problem till i joined this forum so i have to blame all you guys for my addiction. I had 6 budgies when i joined this forum 7 months ago, now i have 25 budgies. No wonder my husband is freaking out.

Hey Neat , these are the 2 that you told me where both boys but at least you got one right.
  20. Thanks for everyones advice, i will start getting her to sit on my fingers and also get some twigs for her cage. I would like her to learn to perch so she can stay cleaner, she drags her tail through her poos. Yuk!
  21. i think we will put tin up the side but we will do wire first because i have the wire and then get tin later on and add it. We finally finished the foundations today and even though we are having a tin roof , my hubby wants to put wire under the tin so in cause we get strong wind and the tin lifts up the birds cannot escape and also make it more mice proof. It was a cold day today so the kids got all rugged up to help.Lucy even though she was wearing a beanie still had to put her hood on, i really hope she develops a better fashion sense when she gets older.
  22. I was wondering at what age can babies sit on a perch or climb.i tried to put Roxy on a perch in her cage today and she did not know how to grab it at all so she fell off.
  23. I am having a full tin roof and tin walls for the back and back half. i have wire to the floor of my other aviary and do not get mice in my aviary so i am hoping they will not get into this aviary either.
  24. We are putting a wire wall down the middle so i will have breeding cabinets on one side and a aviary on the other.
