  1. As you all know, I'm living in a lovely unit and have been working on my 'garden'. It's all in pots as I'm renting and need to take everything with me when I leave... I still haven't decided what to plant near my carport yet (Full mid day-afternoon sun), but my main problem is getting nice big pots, that do not cost an arm and a leg... As it happens...Mum and Dad are getting a fence replaced soon, and that means old fence posts! So, my thoughts are to build some planters out of these fence posts. I'd make two long ones for under my front windows and plant my cactus in them, and then make either one long one for next to my carport, or two tall ones. So, I kind of have plans in my head of how to construct them, and I was thinking of lining them with something, as I don't want them to rot or the water to seep out through the sides. I'm thinking that black plastic stuff we used to use 'back in the day' to stop weeds. Do you think if I just poked some holes in the bottom of the plastic that would do for drainage? For the bottom of them, I was just going to use timber of some sort, and perhaps drill drainage holes... Sound okay???? If any one has a better idea or suggestions to improve my idea, I'm all ears. Thanks guys
  2. Great news Molly.
  3. Congratulations to you both!
  4. Awesome news Deb!!! I'm so pleased for you and Jadon.
  5. I use them as KAZ says... to tell the difference between clutches, and more recently, to tell the difference between my identical opalines . I use metal split rings and they are still on the ones I ringed over two years ago. Depending on the age, they may or may not try and bite them... but after a little while, they get over them and forget they were ever there.

  10. It is a pity... If they are a good pair, I'm sure they'll breed for you in time. Good luck with them
  11. SO TRUE!!! Australia post will guarantee to damage anything out of the ordinary!!! :tut_tut:
  12. I agree guys... surely you don't need 11 babies!!!! I'll give you my address, pop it in their beaks and send them on their way...........
  13. Awesome Pearce... it's fun isn't it... just got to learn to relax and let it happen. It still pays to be prepared... just don't over think things
  14. I agree with Kaz. I'd ditch the current eggs... but I'd also remove the nest box and NOT continue to breed them. If they were mine, I'd let them settle in first then begin breeding them after that. Stress from moving and breeding is a bad combination. Good luck with what ever you choose to do.
  15. I thought you were getting a baby from LIV or Sunny??? They both can tell the difference between males and females

  18. Well, you tried mate! If nothing else works, you have no choice. So... based on that, I'd start working on getting her to sit on your finger, and when she'll do that, get her to stay on when you take your hand out of the cage etc... good luck and keep us updated.
  19. I agree with LIV... very sweet and my have they grown!
  20. And you have a sense of humour... we like that around here too!
  21. Nice find... BUT, can the nest boxes be removed and attached to the outside? This would give them more room to move inside... and as it is, budgies prefer nest boxes to be higher rather than lower, so they might not be too keen to use them on the floor. Just my opinion
  22. thanks sure you will all help me heaps We will do our best! ... and remember, no question is ever silly or dumb! We were all new to budgies once.

I'd be really careful about having animals when you rent... especially when you are not allowed. You might get evicted. They can also do spot inspections if they suspect anything.
  24. thanks Ellly, i will try this as of tonight, but i do see one little hiccup. This little fellow has not even ventured to the bottom of his cage to where i have seed in a dish for him and also he has seed in a feeder which he has not moved to either, infact he tends to stick to the top perch and hasnt moved to the lower perch or bottom of the cage. So the millet sprays are hanging from the top of the cage directly within his reach. I have put him on the bottom of the cage to show him the other seed but he immediately jumps back up to the top perch. Also i have placed him on the seed feeder and he jumps back up to the perch. Hes a good jumper...lol. The only time he is off this perch is when we take him out of his cage..but then maybe i should remove the perch high up to encourage him to be lower in the cage? Would that be an option do you think? Thankx Lisa Where do you have your food/water dishes. You could try having them hang right next to his top perch. That way all he has to do is reach over and try his food. As to trying new things...sometimes they can take forever. You just have to keep offering it to him. In time he will try it and then you can start to figure out what he does and does not like. Good luck and please keep us updated!
  25. Congratulations!!! As AV, MB and others said... it can sometimes take time as they get used to their new situation. I hope he continues to settle in nicely
