Louie's Journey Is Ending...
Via PM Elly? I'll go through mine again. I did think I had one from you. I'll let you know either way. Hey Splat... I'm happy to send him to you if you like. I'm hoping to get this wrapped up in the next few months, but it might take awhile. So you still have time if you like. Send me a PM if you're keen.

What Is The Best Way To Breed Budgies?
You should be cabinet breeding/closed breeding. READ THIS. Colony breeding in an aviary is asking for trouble and you will have deaths of chicks and adults.

I just had the loveliest idea for your extra special Aviary that your hubby built! You could have window boxes with budgie seed growing in them! That is a really good idea!!!! I won't mention it to him today though........ He is on couch flicking between tennis & cricket on the TV and doesn't want to go back to work in the 38 degree temperatures predicted for tomorrow. I'll keep you posted though!!! Flicking between the cricket and tennis... I know why, we're hopeless!!!

Fruit And Vegies
Just keep offering it. Try it different ways. Get a dish/bowl the same as the one you offer your seed in, and try grating the veggies and cutting them in different sized, so finely and chunky. Also try poking them through the side of the cage. Sprinkling seed on them is also good. Corn on the cob is often a big hit... maybe put a small cob in her cage. As to the calcium bell... if she feels she needs it she'll use it. I wouldn't worry too much.

Heatwave Coming...
I live in Geelong, so we often get the sea breeze of a night, which takes the edge off things. But if the nights are hot, I'll be a very grumpy girl by the end of the week!

Heatwave Coming...
I saw Trish and am NOT looking forward to it. Not only do I work in a shed, I live it a unit which gets very hot and my poor birds inside and out!!! Hopefully it won't get as hot as they predict.

Misty Says Hi
Isn't that like most pets? They hold them for a certain period and if they are not claimed or bought they are put down???

Misty Says Hi
If that is the case, and it has an open head wound... it needs to see a vet immediately or it will die a very painful and INHUMNE death. Can you not take it yourself?

Louie's Journey Is Ending...
It's been about 10 months since this guy: started his journey around the BBC world. The time has come for his 'holiday' to come to an end. Thanks for those who have participated and passed him on. Anyone who still has him and hasn't finished their journal/photos, please do so now. I also asked for a submission of a journal entry of his time with you and your birds, including photos. I have been able to find three I have received from Birdluv, Liv and Neat. I remember reading Kaz's too but am just trying to find it. If everyone who has completed them, could you please PM them to me, or PM me for my email address if that is easier. I will be putting together an album of his entire journey, which will be posted to each member who participated in his journey and took the time to write up something/take some photos. The amount each members submits is up to them. I'll do my best to include as much as possible. I look forward to seeing what everyone came up with, and then producing a great memento of his experience.

People Catching Psittacosis Help !
I'm sorry you have had bad experiences with Doctors. I guess it all comes down to what you 'know' so to speak. I have a brilliant Doctor who is also 'impossible' to get into. I'm fortunate to be able to get in at relatively short notice when needed though. My mum also spent time in a large Melbourne hospital many years ago. She nearly died and had a long road to recovery. My brother in law is also a Doctor. My experiences with them have been nothing but positive. Therefor... I have nothing against them and trust them fully. However, I can fully understand where you are coming from. I hope you are beginning to feel better. I'm pleased it is 'not just you' and possibly something that is going around. Not that that probably makes you feel any better. Rest up and hopefully you'll be back on your feet in no time.

No worries. As to the age of birds for training. You're best to get a young chick. You'll need a boy if you want to teach it to talk, but you can train/tame either sex fine. If she wants it to bond to her, you are best to get only one. Work with it and get it tame. Two will be more inclined to bond to each other than you. That being said, you can have more then one tame budgie, but you need to work with them more and it's better to get them separately. Budgies shouldn't be sold until they can eat on their own. Most breeders don't sell them until they are able to do so. Where in Australia are you from? We have lots of breeders here if you'd prefer to get one from one of them.

Why Do Cocks Bob Their Heads Up And Down?
It's all part of the courting... they are getting excited etc... that is also why their pupiles dialate. All creatures (including humans) have certain 'things' they do before they mate I don't know how else to explain it cleanly! lol

Misty Says Hi
Agree with the other. Needs to see a AVIAN vet. The eye must be looked at. I'd also be advertised him in the local paper and around the neighbourhood. I'd be devastated if I lost my budgie and someone found him and kept him.

Firm Poo
Awww, hugs . Poor little thing. I hope it doesn't suffer and manages okay in the aviary. It's great the breeder will give you another one though. Just be sure to inspect it well and hopefully this one will be healthier. Read this before you get your next one: Signs of a healthy budgie. I'd love to see the new budgie too if you'd like to post a photo that would be great.

In addition to above, I'd maybe even sprinkle seed on the bottom of the cage if that is where she is spending most of her time. Is you appointment with an avian vet? When is it? The appointment is at 12.30 today. I dont know if it is an avian vet but it is a pretty large practice so I would think they would have the resources to help... Thanks for the advice, I'll clean her up and sprinkle some seed on the bottom. Excellent. Be sure to let us know how she gets on.

A photo would be great. You also need to clean up its bum. Get a small bowl of warm water and gentle soften the poo and remove it. It will be making her worse if the vent is blocked and she can't poo at all. Is she eating? Try giving her millet to get her to eat if she's not. Once you've cleaned her up, I'd also be putting a lamp on her to keep her warm and hopefully perk her up a little. Please keep us updated.
