its bloody noisy here! we have BBQ's out side and visitors always have to yell over the birds And its the canary who then starts singing over everyone and his voice echos though the pergola

New Cage
Haha!! yeah, they say they cant hear anything (I totally know they can really hear them) They have 3 kids and are really friendly so i don't think they would say otherwise :laughter: We will be moving all aviary's soon to the other side of the house where there are no neighbours to annoy. We need to lay the concrete slabs for the bird room and the aviaries, and it should all be done before david goes back to work in 2 weeks

Are These Good Markings?
i have a young hen just out the nest who i really like and i am wondering if her markings are good considering she is an Opaline spangle. to me her markings are really clear and defined for both varieties - most opaline spangles kind of look a mess to me..... Would love your opinions and views... my future goal is to improve the spangle markings in my show birds, without compromising on size (tough job with these 2 little girls, i know hehe) and this is her younger spangle sister

New Cage
I forgot to take a picture of the whole aviary Here it is I don't have platform feeders. I put my feeders in kitty litter trays normally to keep the damp and bugs away from the seed (pavers ) - at the moment their food is on the ground and the feeders are in plastic containers. Its the same as my large aviary, just smaller. We now have a line of three aviaries all in a row under the cool pergola. The birds this morning were so loud we couldn't sleep past sunrise :laughter: Only a true bird lover can appreciate the happy bird calls at 6am in the morning

New Cage
A number of these birds stacked on the weight in the holding cages and are so fat they cant fly :laughter: So it wasnt only the hot weather that made us buy them an aviary - its for their own health. I laid out the perches so they have to fly down to get the seed etc. - we will change the perches some time soon to the tiered style - just got to make it up

Pearce's Budgerigar Blog
you should be able to get a show cage from a budgie club - most clubs have some one who makes them up Oh and they are about $30 for a kit and $50 made up (they are a headache to make  I am doing on now and doing my head in because they have to be PERFECT!!! :laughter: )

Budgie Freight
There have been a lot of questions recently on how to freight budgies. Budgies travel really well via airplane and its a great way to get quality birds from breeders who live in other states. WHO Australia Air Express Phone 13 12 13 Website: Australia Air Express HOW MUCH Most of the time accompanied pets (up to 10kg) costs $50 flat rate. Some states allow accompanied pet transport for free as part of luggage Unaccompanied birds cost around $80 WHAT You need a carry case which is like this one - must have 3 enclosed sides and a wire front. A secure and lockable door. Must have lots of ventilation holes near the top of the closed in sides, especially when there are lots of birds. This pictured case is 45cm wide, 30cm deep by 16cm high Also this box with birds in it only weighed 2.4kg HOW MANY How many can you fit in that little box??? quite a lot actually. Up to 25 birds will fit in the pictured case quite safely. The more there are, the better they travel as they keep each other safe by huddling together. FOOD AND WATER Most of the time, food and water is not permitted. Just make sure you have food and water to give the birds when they arrive as they will be hungry. I cant think of anything else right now, but feel free to add any of your budgie travel experiences or tips too.
