  1. ....railway crossing, when.... etc etc etc Do you know the three worded running story thing??? It's where you write 3 words that follow on from what the person before you wrote. Be as creative as you like (keeping it clean of course hehehe) - Who knows where the story will go and how it will turn out  I'll Start. Look out!! It's...

Hello and welcome. I colony bred tiels and budgies in the same aviary for a while. The budgies did great, but the tiels were a complete flop! I am going to start cabinet breeding in spring instead. I would not have the love birds in the same aviary as the budgies and tiels. They really should be separated before breeding, otherwise there could be some nasty fights (and the budgies WONT win!)

I have pavers as the floor in mine. Cheaper and easier (in my opinion )

Thanks for the rain Deb, We are have dark skies and lovely RAIN!!!! Hope you are enjoing our blue skies hehehehe All the best with working out your aviary floor.
  5. Here is were I read it ---- > HERE I agree with the over use of antibiotics... Which is why I had my initial idea. If many show breeders use antibiotics as preventative measures, could also explain the reason why (in general) the show type budgie is not as hardy as the pet type. There have been some great points raised! It seems that it is a big topic with lots of different views.
  6. hahaha!! they look adorable when they have the "pin cushion" look Mine are moulting too. will try and get some pics soon hehehehe
  7. But a carrier carries the disease because it can not rid of the disease on its own. It needs antibiotics just like all the others. Just because it has no symptoms, dosen't mean it's immune, just means it's not showing symptoms. It could be explained like this.... A person with HIV can have HIV for years and be completely fine, but can still spread the virus to other people if they are not careful. There is no HIV vaccine or immunity....
  8. I have just read that Psittacosis can not have a vaccine as the body does not build an immunity to the bacteria at all - so there goes that idea
  9. I am all for vaccines. I would pay for all my birds to have a Psittacosis vaccine without a blink of an eye! I feel that giving the antibiotics bi-annually only stops the bacteria for those 6 weeks at a time. If the bacteria comes by say 3 weeks after the birds finished their treatment, wouldn't they still get sick
  10. I agree with Kaz, Hen out of breeding condition
  11. I love budgies, but i don't think i could sleep with them in my bedroom. I love their sweet budgie smell, but the dust gets up my nose.
  12. wow they are great photos!!! love to sunset and the water Seeing the tiels in the tree made my heart skip a beat. I have never seen them wild and it reminds me of when someone opened my aviary as a joke and all my tiels were all sitting high in my tree - i got 2 back, but the others got away

I hope the water clears out for you soon. you have 2 aviarys, are they both flooded?? if one is better than the other, perhaps just put all the birds in one until the water clears. Is your new aviary fixed to the ground. can you and some friends pick it up and carefully move it to a new spot until the water clears???? I wish we had just a fraction of your rain so please tell those big rain clouds to visit SA!! hehehehe **edit** posted at the same time as you Deb hehe.
  14. try looking interstate for the birds you are after - someone will breed them somewhere
  15. Great question! I am keen to know about this too and look forward to the results
  16. Budgies are curious by nature. I'd say Bing is just seeing in your finger nail is a tasty treat or something to chew on. I wouldn't worry about it. Just make sure your fingernails are scrubbed clean as that is where dirt and bacteria hide, and could make Bing sick.
  17. Hello and welcome I am sorry for your loss :hap: I would say Blue is grieving for Auzzie. They all do it in their own way when they loose a friend. I wouldn't get another bird if you don't want another one yourself. You may find that in a few more weeks Blue will suddenly become more attached to you as you become his new mate Keep and eye on his health, and check for poopy bum and weightloss etc.
  18. have 2 budgie hehehe - let the addiction begin hahahah :hap:
  19. I have a friend who has a child who would catch EVERYTHING!!! after being to many doctors and giving the child endless antibiotics etc, she took matters into her own hands and drastically changed his diet to only contain natural healthy organic ingredients - He is now a happy HEALTHY boy You are what you eat is a very true saying :hap:
  20. He looks lovely. As for type, i have no idea - i'm not good at mutations etc hehehe. Looks about 6 weeks old - which is great!! I love the first picture. makes him look very handsome :hap:
  21. I am sorry Percy is sick again :hap: e-coli is not a nice bacteria and it is transmitted to humans - it's common in our gut. Be careful not to ingest any droppings by washing hands, not letting him walk on your tables etc. here is a link on e-coli ---> here
  22. :hap: Death Becomes Her.... ..love it!!! I will look for a copy too Pleased your happy with it nothing worse than bad publicity!
  23. Chlorteracyline treats Psittacosis too. I can get it in 50g containers from a local bird dealer. I am personally not a big antibiotic fan... I am always on the view that using too much antibiotics will cause super resistant bugs and lowers the immune system (double negative, not making a positive in this case) . I use antibiotics only on bacterial infections that the body has no chance of getting over on its own. - but thats just me
  24. Benny is perfect Well done!!!! Liv oxox
