My Ideas On Breeding Birds:
I Agree, before I purchased my first birds I spent a lot of time reading. I read about mainly breeding and one thing I noticed was a lot of top breeder's fed their birds natural. We had a presentation one night from an old experienced breeder (40+ years) who only ever fed his birds natural products that he either grew or picked from the bush and he rarely lost any birds. His theory was if it was good enough for the wild budgies who have lived for longer than humans have been here then it's good enough for his birds. I personally have not lost any adult birds but only have been breeding for a year.

My Ideas On Breeding Birds:
I may be new to breeding but I have taken a stance similar to you Norm. There is nothing that nature cannot provide to keep our birds healthy. A good diet is esential also a good clean living environment and you will ruduce or eliminate the need for drugs.

Breeding Early 2008.... With Updates
Thats great, I have 6 pairs down at the moment pair 1 with 6 chicks No eggs left, Pair 2 1 chick no eggs (I have fostered 2 chicks from pair 1 here) pairs 3 & 4 on 3 eggs each & the last two are due to lay any day. Exciting times after a 3 month rest from breeding. Cannot wait to see what the babies come out like.

Yf Grey
Get yourself a yellow face blue or grey & a grey or blue, This should give you some yellow face grey's. Remember that the grey bird is a blue based bird. So pairing a grey to a green will not get you grey birds.

New Budgie And I Think I Got Conned.
I agree she is a recesive pied. I would rest her before putting her down with Boris. It's hard to tell her age but she is definately over 6 months old. I have 6 month old hens whose cere is that colour but definately not ready for breeding.

Can I Keep A Chick ?
I normally remove the next box at about 5-6 weeks (the chicks will be fully feathered by then) and leave both parents in there until I see the babies feeding themselves and flying from perch to perch.
