  1. It is absoloutly Normal for the hens cere to change colours... and yes a hen can be bigger than then a cock and vice versa, it depends on who they were bred from
  2. If there's no harm done to the chick do not remove the mother.. Try to leave her alone and watch from a far... Interupting her can lead to injury to the chicks... If you think the mother is hurting the babies make sure you can see evidence first before disrupting her... Do you have any pictures of your setup by any chance?

  4. :o :o No trisha the elephant!!!!!!!!!! Excellent Photo's Feathers!!! what camera is that? I like the tamerin the best
  5. That's all up to you... I have the same swing and haven't found a need to trim it yet... but it alld epends on how you feel your birds work around it :rip: If there's any cause for concern of them getting stuck, trim it
  6. The warning for rope toys is not so much for swallowing and choking, although that is still a worry... But more for birds getting caught, hurting themselves and sometimes even dying. I've had one boy in the aviary get caught in a peice of thread that was used to hang a millet treat from. He nearly lost a foot... i don't even want to think about how long he was hanging there before we found him :S Since then I watch like a hawk when rope of any kind is in there :rip: Nice pics
  7. That is wonderful news!!! i had two chicks hatch from the eggs of a mother who died in the nest that were fostered to another hen whilst cold.. he's quite a fat little chicky!!! looks like he's doing really well!!!! Dom pied bub here we come
  8. equivelant of a black eyed Ino would probably be a DF spangle not a DEC as spangles still have iris rings like ino's Well i hope you find someone to hand rear them! If i were near you i would! i love doing it... He's oh soo cute isn't he!
  9. My baby blues atm have that colour tail also, perhaps it moults out? Gorgeous birds!!! how'd you get the lacewing chicks again? I forgot the parents?
  10. Aww that's soo cute! i didn't know you could cross species foster ? Let us know how that goes!!!! Isn't that just an adorable Fuzzy shot!!! look at all that fluff!
  11. Hi and welcome I'd agree with your dad he's a he :hap: And i'd say a green cinnamon spangle, if that means anything to you Going by the marking colour and the purple throat spots I've had many baby budgies who're shy, hide in under or behind things... With time and exposure he'll hopefully become more tame... Being bought from a petshops means he was probably just sold to them as a baby and not a hand reared/tamed one... So with time and persistance he will brighten up If you feel comfortable with it try a wing clip, it'll set his confidence back a bit being unable to fly, but reassure him that your hands/fingers/shoulder are wonderful places to be (remeber wings grow back with a moult) Hope that helps
  12. I have many Birds who're small... I do find you encounter Medical problems... They have more trouble passing eggs and are more likely to become egg bound. They Much more flighty than my big birds, but i have no idea on life expectancy of them as i've only owned them the last couple of years. I don't think it goes by sepcific mutations, but in my aviary the smallest are 3 pet type opaline spangle hens (two are also cinnamon and 1 Yf) I do not beleive it is opaline spangle genes specifically, because i have many other HUGE opaline spangles, but i have noticed that The smaller Pet type birds bred to other small pet type birds produce even smaller offspring. So in theory, miniture budgies are very possible if Show breeders can get Large birds I'll up load some pictures of the three tomorrow, with measurments next to a ruler to see how tiny they're
