  1. i think the shape he is referring to SW is the more rounded shape of a cock as opposed to the more "sharp" of a hen... As bubs all have smooth Cere's
  2. I agree, I don't let it influence it at all... i go by colour
  3. Sometimes they're hard to see, have you got any photo's of him with his eye in direct light so there's no chance of his pupil being dilated to the point of not being able to see the iris?
  4. How old is the bush budgie hen ? She looks really young to me there, I can't even see an Iris ring? Probably best to remove her from a breeding situation for now. Lovely photo's By The Way

A hen can still lay infertile eggs if they have no neucleas in it (Yolk)

  7. Aww sweety We're all here for you so if you EVER need to talk you know where I am. As easy as it is to say, but hard as it is to do, don't think of it as you've lost them because you still have all the memories of the joy they brought to you and will one day see each other again, it's just tata for now
  8. "I'm blue duba dee duba di.... I have a blue cage with a blue window, blue is the colour, that looks back at me!!" *for those that remember the song hehe
  9. Hi and welcome I fixed your picture and changed it to a link for you. You have a grey normal cock and your hen I'm not too sure on to be honest, she has the cheek patches of a grey, yet then has the body colour/face of a YF bird, but YF over grey should not create the green haha, who knows, i'll wait for Neville's word on it
  10. Gorgeous birds, love India!!! P.s. i don't think they're over-weight, they're show birds The bigger the better
  11. Oh no! I'm sooo sorry to hear this Maesie I know EXACTLY how you're feeling right now Last november the 6th my Grampy had a car crash, he was taken to hospital and we were aware he was going to be leaving us, then 30 minutes before he passed away my 11 yr old cat Ran under Bob's car and got hit and died of shock Only last week my best mate's partner lost his grandad and had to put his cat down on the same day :| This seems like too common an occurance If you need to talk sweety you know where i am! Sending you big hugs and love xoxox!
  12. No one hates you mate. We're all here to help your birds have the best quality of life possible. No one is shutting you down, but is showing concerns behind your reasons for breeding and you set up as it seems unsafe, that's all. As stated above, birds can not be bred to make money. They must come as a hobby before any thought of money should occur to you. Treat them as a computer gamer would treat a new game... it's just money to spend on something they love to do, don't expect anything back I agree, nest box should be secured down, even if it has to be on a pedastool and nailed down, then atleast it's more secure than perched ontop of something waiting to fall as the last thing you want is a nest of dead chicks when the nest box fell and mum refused to feed them. Have you read up on all aspects of breeding? Proper nutrition etc. Perhaps remove the nest box for now, do some more research and then continue breeding at a later date when you know how old the birds are and can provide them and the chicks adequate care. It's heart breaking when things go wrong with breeding and you're the one at fault and we don't want to see that happen here, that is all.

The ones that look like a cross between a coffee bean and a rice grain Porridge is made out of rolled out versions of them She's doing well, eating well but is sooky and screams on the odd occasion, but she's growing out of that now

Switch to standard finch seed ( more variety which he will eat) and add some hulled oats. Don't forget to give him his greens
  17. Oh I'm sure anything with a windpipe can choke. I'm VERY highly doubting a lorikeet would however. What Bird Paradise has described of what happened to Nitro is a fit. They flap about, head goes back and rolls around side to side, wings flap(pulled behind them also), feet behind them and struggle to breath. I've seen many birds fit from galahs and butcher birds to budgies and each one goes through the exact same process of what I describe a an exorcist experience. They contort themselves into all sorts of positions and cry and do all very sad things It may not have been lack of food that caused it (many different things can cause these fits in birds) But by description is definatly a fit from experience of seeing so many. You did the best you could do Bird Paradise. Once they fit they don't have much time left and there isn't alot you can do unfortunatly I've only ever managed to save one bird after fitting from the numerous birds i've seen have them. So in refrence to yours and your dads fast actions you did the most you could, he was probably too far into the fitting stage to be saved :hap:
  18. Wow congrats Elly! Great work! You do soo much for us all here and it's greatly appreciated!
  19. Jesus Liv, hubby is talented! they look awesome!
  20. - The one we got today - Foot painting 1 - Foot painting 2 (he's an amazing artist! ) http://www.clivequinn.com/ And this is the website of Dads closest mate he does portraits in pastels (chalk ones) Absoloutly stunning work, for my 15th birthday he did one of my deceased dog jake for me, was so life like i cried when i got it
  21. Aww that is pretty! I love paintings done by people close to home I have some lovely ones done by a patient in my dads OT ward, with his FOOT ! I'll get a photo and show you them (we got a new picture today also for the wall, i'll get that too )
  22. I'd use a few tea towels on top and try more to steam it than iron it
  23. The evidence is at the bottom of their cage. The whole thing is covered in pulp. I don't deny they eat some stuff, but if it's not smooth and can be licked up and easily swallowed they will not eat it. All fruit is crushed then spat back out. In a communal aviary there is alot more space to flick food and disperse of the waste, but in my patio cage i see all that is dropped. - The mandarin from earlier today, all that is left is pulp and seeds. - The bottom of their cage, all that is dropped from apples and anything else eaten.
  24. A lorikeet would not choke. Lorikeets filter through every single thing in their food and suck the juices out but will not eat anything remotly pulpy, solid or fibreous. You'll see even when they eat apples or their wet mix they'll push it around in their mouth and then shake the solid/more dense bits away.
  25. I'm sorry to say Bird_paradise, but i'd have to agree To me, by the sounds of how Nitro died it was lack of food and i too worry you're trying to spread your resources too thin. As Kaz said, lorikeets are expensive to feed and need a very specific diet to keep them going. Even lack of food for just a short while can make them drastically drop their condition and even more so when all the sugars in the foods they eat are used up as energy against the cold. I'm not trying to blame you or anything, but i really do feel this was due to lack of food Once again, sorry for your loss
