New Show Birds!
Well Bob and I have been sourcing out more birds of late to add to our stock to fuel us to get into the "showing" side of our hobby. We've sourced birds from a few people around, inc Kaz who's given us some very excellent birds from a member of our club. We bought 1 expensive and 1 regular priced bird from a Nationals breeder down south (Once again only found him with the help of Kaz) And today we had a visit from one of the top breeders of my FAVOURITE variety FALLOWS He came with three boxes of birds to choose from (13 birds) He left empty handed I only have photo's of the new birds we got today so far, but if I get chance I'll upload the photo's of the other birds from Kaz and the breeder down south. I'm very happy with what we've got (even if they all up cost and arm and a leg) I think i'll be able to get some lovely offspring from them all. - fallow cock no1 - fallow cock no2 - My favourite of the three fallow cock no3 http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff16/1libby/B4-2.jpg - a grey green opaline/ fallow cock. He's really gorgeous! http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff16/1libby/B5-2.jpg - Opaline/ fallow hen no1 - opaline/fallow hen no2 - opaline/fallow hen no3 - This girl really doesn't show up in photo's and is absoloutly HUGE! All in all and excellent day and some VERY gorgeous birds here I hope I do them justice!

What Do You Feed Your Budgie
No one is saying anything like that, I think it was more an IF that a YOU DO... Alot of the time there's cheaper more nutritonal ways to feed your animals than what they say is in those packets, that is all... They may look good in writing but really they aren't all that wonderful... I'd say for breeding birds stick to seed, greensvitamins and egg mixes if you can There's alot of home recipes on this site if you take a look about and in the FAQ's and so on which can help you, if not PM some members who may be able to help and shed some light on better things which cost less

What To Feed
Well that part I agree on, it is nice if they enjoy, I just find there's alot more sources out there they enjoy more than dry food Whole raw eggs are great for them, my kelpie x loves them, swallows them whole as I crack them to her The Pom is not quite so quick but will lick it up still
-
Quails
hehe by mini eggs do you mean you've given them Budgie eggs MB, or some other birds ?
-
What To Feed
I disagree, just because they like it does not mean it has all required nutrional needs in it. I mean I love lasagne, but I couldn't live off it

What Do You Feed Your Budgie
I personally wouldn't bother. If you're going to feed them soft food feed an egg mix A home made one is always better than a box one

What A Close Call!

What Do You Feed Your Budgie
Can I ask why budgie starter? Passwells budgie starter is the equivelant of hand rearing with seeds mixed in and is usually given to babies being weaned onto seed after being hand reared?

Quails
Baby quails are ever so gorgeous!!!! but extremely fragile i love having them, but when you get 7-15 at a time they can become a handful in containing them and giving them somewhere to live I take mine from the aviary with their mother put them in a plastic box/container with a warm lamp and feed them egg and biscuit and poppy seeds with a shallow lid of water filled with marbles (they can drown easily) Once they're mostly feathered the mother is removed... It's good fun though

Quails
They sure do, i have one in my weero cage on "break" from being picked on and 4 weeks after being in there she has laid an egg

What To Feed
Another fact, not one of the top show breeders you'll ever come across feed pellets and with birds going in price up to $10,000 they definatly would be taking the best care of them they can.

What Do You Feed Your Budgie
i feed my birds their seed mix (Finch with added hulled oats and sunflower seeds) in D-cup for the cabinets or self dispensers in the aviary. Their water is in Rabbit dripper bottles for the aviary and D-cups for the cabinets and all greens and fresh/soft foods are put in bowls/plates

Lovely pics I absoloutly ADORE the last one Good luck with them!

What To Feed
But at the same time you have to remember alot of this isn't based on research. Many vets say "take this food and use it it's the best" because they're paid to or because it's the "trend" at the time. How dull of a life you would have as a bird to eat pellets and only pellets when clearly they don't like them and they're bland. Humans can live off diet supplements if they needed, but really when push comes to shove and it comes down to it what kind of life does that leave us with? Taking away the enjoyments in life (which have not being proved on a complete adequate diet to be worse than pellets) leaves us with no life. You'll have an animal which does not live to eat, it eats to live and doesn't enjoy a moment of it.
