Here are some long awaited pictures of Sherbet, kindly taken by my best friend Adam Argh, l don't like being held Eh, it ain't so bad l guess Woah, sideways! This is my water, this is my food, these are my ladders and there is me! mmm honey stick! ------------------------------------------ Also - would anyone be able to confirm if he is... well... a he?

He does it mostly when he's excited and showing off Ah, thanks for reminding me about the millet - l bought some last week and forgot about it :hap:

Is it bad if they do it everyday? It has done it the last 3 days. The only thing l can do is put my hand in the cage and it will jump onto my finger, he will also let me gently stroke his chest. He won't let me touch the back of his head yet though.

My bird is an acrobat. He sits on his natural perch, flings his body towards the bottom of the cage, and then swings around back up to the normal standing position, with his feet on the perch the whole time. He will do this for a few minutes and then stop. Does anyone elses bird do this?
  5. Organising where the toys go? I am going to clean the cage and perches this afternoon, and l'm so excited because straight after l get to re-arrange the toys I bought just over $50 worth of toys today, a swing, 3 rope perches, 2 ring things, cage cleaner and a rope swing. Sherbet better like them!
  6. I really like that rope perch and the coloured beaded swing. I can't seem to find anything like that here :yellowhead:
  7. Thanks Elly, will do Vita - my bird is settling in great. He put on a little show for my dad and l. He was doing somersaults on the ladder, he was staying on one perch and going in and out through the gaps in the ladder! It was quite funny to see him struggle

Me! If anyone here has looked at my profile, l have put up a small picture of me. Here are two others. For more, or if you have myspace, my myspace address is http://www.myspace.com/_pinkgl0w Me (left) and my best friend Nat (right) Nat (left) and Me (right) Yeah, so thats me
  9. My bird has only been in a cage, l have never taken it out as l'm scared it will fly away and l won't be able to catch it again. I alternate it between indoors and outdoors to give it a bit of variety. Nerwen told me to change the water everyday, so what would happen with this worming solution? I'd tip it down the drain everyday, how would l be sure that Sherbet is drinking the water?
  10. So no name for her yet? Sorry about the problem with the link. The vet there deals with all animals, including birds.
  11. What an adorable bird! Have you got a name for her? Also, on the topic of vets, would this vet be acceptable? http://www.yellowpages.com.au/onlineSoluti...9b5f4&st=cs I hope that link works. In their description of animals that they care for, Birds is at the top of their list. This is also quite close to me.

He is beautiful I am going to get some nice photos taken of him soon, my friend has a professional camera and is an amateur photographer. :hap: Oh and l spelt his name wrong Its Sherbet
  13. I went into my local pet shop on Monday morning to get some toys, and the assistant asked how old my budgie was. I told her he is approx. 6.5 weeks old, and she suggested l get this "worming solution" to put into its drinking water. She said all l need is a few drops, and to do it when it is 8 weeks old, then 10 and then every 3 months after that. Just wondering if this is necessary, and if l should do it? I've never heard of it before. Thanks

Thanks Although l read on a website not to give them lettuce? I thought it was weird when l read it.

:hap: Everyone has been so nice, thank you :fear I cleaned out his cage tonight for the first time, only the bottom part and l scrubbed down the wooden ladder. The perches we're too bad, but will probably need doing on the weekend. I originally had two watering dishes/dispensers. I'm not sure if he is drinking the water so l took out the dish, and only left the dispenser. I fill it up to the same point so l can see how much he is drinking. I am changing the water everyday - is this too much or should l do it every two days?

I have just decided on a name. My mum suggested l look on the internet for translations of the words "bird" "pretty" etc in other languages to see if anything interesting came about. Nothing did so l searched "Bird Names". I have finally decided on Sherbert :fear.

I think its a little shy-ness but also he's getting tired! My dad came home this afternoon (around 6pm) and was looking forward to watching the bird play and chirp. Unfortunately he didn't, but my mum said he was chirping like he was having a conversation with himself all afternoon and climbing all over the cage!

I went buying crazy for my budgie! I bought a bell, those balls that are attatched that hang to the cage, one of those pruning ledges - its like rough concrete. I also found a natural branch. I bought some cuttlefish and some Millet. I bought a big ladder too! He is happy and chirping away :hap: Not to mention climbing and being clumsy!

Hey Norm :hap: Thanks for the advice, l did move them lower and l think its better My bird has chirped a little, not much, and it likes climbing! It climbed up the side of the cage and it went back down to the bottom and tried to do it again! I also put my hand in the cage to try and coax it to go on my finger (it has done so quite a few times since l brought it home) and it jumped onto the honey stick and started eating it

Thanks birdluv I also have a quick question - should l place the feeder/water in the cage up high, or low to the base of the cage? I currently have it on the same level as the highest perch, but its making a bit of a mess outside the cage I woke up this morning and my budgie is still the same, doesn't do anything, doesn't move. Is there something wrong? I have also put one of those "honey sticks" up and l don't think its even taken a bite. Could this behaviour and not eating the stick be related to being in a pet-shop birdcage during its short life? It has always had other budgies around it - so could it be lonely, is that why its not doing much?

Thanks guys :budgiedance: The colour is kind of purple-ish? I can't look now, its sleeping (well, l hope the poor thing is, its worn out!)
  22. Missy replied to Missy's topic in New to BBC
Thanks Karen :budgiedance: I have another picture here, unfortunately my digital camera isn't very high quality (l got it pretty cheap!) but hopefully this one is clearer? It seems very bored the last few hours its been here. I mean, its probably very very worn out - its been a big day for it! Also, l haven't got any toys for it yet. I can't wait to see it get lively!

G'Day everyone! I just realised that l probably should introduce myself here, although l have already posted elsewhere on the site! My name is Sarah, l'm 20 and l live in Western Sydney (Penrith) in Australia. I am a full-time surveyor and l'm studying one day a week for my Surveying Diploma. I love ten-pin bowling and netball, and l play them each once a week (or more!) Today l got my first Budgie and l found this site in google after l searched "Bugdie Care". I knew l had to join once l got my budgie! Here is my Budgie: It doesn't yet have a name - l'm not 100% sure if its a male or a female. My dad seems to think its a male. My friend suggested the name Cotton and my mum suggested Harley - she loves that name to bits. Anyway, thats pretty much all about me :budgiedance: Looking forward to talking to everyone!

Ah, l never thought of that! Thanks :budgiedance: My dad will find for me a nice natural branch. I will also hold off on the mirror, l'll still buy one but store it away. I just don't want him to get lonely?
  25. Missy replied to Missy's topic in Budgie Talk
Thanks for the suggestions, but my dad had a close look at it, and he believes its a boy. Dad used to own a pretty big aivery when l was little, and had a lot of budgies. My friend suggested "Cotton", which l quite like. Still thinking about it though!
