One Month
Its been one Month to the day that l brought young Sherbet home. Here is a photo l took about 5 minutes ago, she's happily nibbling on a piece of apple: As soon as l put it up to the bars of the cage (l hadn't even pushed it through the bars yet) she was already starting to nibble it! Next week l will try some pear. She's only ever had apple for fruit, but she's still starting out, so l hpoe she likes her pear next week

Sherbet Is Destroying Her Skirt..
I had to clean the cage last Wednesday, and there were husks in the skirt Which means that the plastic isn't 100% doing what l was hoping it would go, but she's not chewing on the skirt! Ah well, at least she won't be destroying it l guess!

How Often To Give Millet?
But l'm not training her, she just likes to eat it :budgiedance: Is too much a bad thing? She bites me now, everytime l put my finger in she bites, but then about a second later hops onto my hand? I don't have the time to train :budgiedance: As long as she's happy and healthy, thats all l'm worried about.

How Often To Give Millet?
I searched this breifly, but l couldn't find anything specific... Just wondering how often should l be giving Sherbet millet? I'm guessing its like bird "junk food"? So in that case, its best in moderation? Currently, l am cleaning her cage every Wednesday night (so tonight!) and l put some millet in, but not again until the next Wednesday night. Just wondering if this is enough/too much/could give her more? Thanks guys

Sherbet Is Destroying Her Skirt..
I'm waiting to find that out actually This idea was formed after your suggestion When l clean the cage out next l will see how much seed, if any, has gone into the skirt, if there isn't any, its going

How Long?
I have just been sucessful in getting Sherbet to try some apple (l don't know if she will eat it again). I took the seed out and gave her a little sector. I don't know if she likes it or not, but l was wondering how long l should leave it in her cage? :dbb1: Its already started to turn a little bit brown, l don't want it to go bad :ausb:

Sherbet Is Destroying Her Skirt..
Okay here we have some pictures: I had to change the lighting on this one with photoshop, because l thought you could see it better. Its just above the black skirt. This is a better one, the strip of plastic is about 5cm wide. This is what l used, this is one corner of the plastic pencil case. Cost me only $1.20!

Claws To Long ?
From my very short experience with budgies, l'd say yes that it is what seems to be causing the bleeding, after all, you said the claws seem to be too long? A picture may also help. One other thing l thought of, do your budgies ever fight? As for keeping the nails trimmed, l was advised against using sandpaper, because it can eventually do this: http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=16025 (thats blood on the sandpaper) What type of perches do you have? I have found that with a particular perch, which is made of rough concrete, it has helped to keep my budgie nails short. Also, some cuttlefish l have found not only helps the beak, but also the nails if they climb on it (like my little one likes to do). I hope l have helped in someway, and l hope l'm right :hap: EDIT: Might just want to wait until someone else here with a lot more experience can clarify this for you

Sherbet Is Destroying Her Skirt..
Sure thing Although, l don't know if you can see it too well. The plastic is really clear, like laminate almost I think she may have been chewing at her other one for two reasons - one, it was something to do, and two, it was blocking a lot of view from the bottom of the cage.

Sherbet Is Destroying Her Skirt..
Okay, today l was sick and tired of looking at her droopy skirt, so l set out to buy another one. I bought a nice black one that fits much better. I also thought "but how do l stop her from attacking it?" Then it came to me. I went to a cheapo shop and bought 2 pencil cases, the plastic kind. These were A3 size and the plastic was clear and also tough. I cut out long strips (5cm wide) and weaved them in and out of the bars on the cage along the bottom. The tricky part was the 3 doors, but l ended up not weaving through them. Sherbet is now very happy, because she can see more, and the skirt fits much better - and hopefully with this plastic, she won't even need the skirt anymore - it should be able to keep the seed inside anyways :dbb1: So that was my little project for the day, as well as buying a bigger wooden swing but cutting it down to size. Its a bit bigger than her plastic one (l noticed she crouched a bit with her plastic one because it was too high to the roof of the cage).

Budgie Books
I got back not too long ago, and to my disappointment, he had every book on birds imaginable - but none on Budgies :dbb1: He had quite a lot of birds for sale too, l saw a really pretty albino one and a grey budgie - very beautiful. Shame about the book though :ausb:

Budgie Books
I know! I searched online and l looked at the part that says "Due Date" and underneath it they have something along the lines of "On Loan - Due 9-5-2005

Budgie Books
I already checked the library, but the good books haven't been returned since 2005  I mean, if l have a question, l just ask everyone on here, my question gets answered pretty quickly I will have a look at the published date though. Apparently its like a pet shop, but birds only I'm very excited. My dad used to go there years ago when l was really little when he had an aviary and found it pretty good.

Budgie Books
My dad told me that he used to have a stack of Budgie Books and told me about a shop not too far away from me that may sell them. Should l get some? Would it be worth it? Does anyone else here use books?

Sherbet Is Destroying Her Skirt..
I looked on ebay myself I found a skirt which came in hot pink and l could get her name embroided onto it! But l've decided not to. The cardboard sound like a good idea, although it may cause a few problems with the water/food dispensers (they are ones that you can re-fill from the outside) I will look more into it though - thanks Bea! Oh, and totally off topic, l was doing a survey on a house today and they had in a small cage a bird, exactly like your Bailee! This one looked old, and it didnt have anything to play with I wanted to ask if she wanted it (because they were going to build a new house) and l was going to look after it. Oh well, l hope its happy
