  1. Well that is good, was there any sign of infection?
  2. I am glad the pair worked out for you, see it's the gift that keeps on giving! I can't wait to see the pictures, and I think we can be sure you will get a 1st in one of the club meets.
  3. a side note (I am sure this is not the case but just food for thought) the little boy I look after had real issues with this, he would use his nappy but not the potty, after everything we finally got asked if we had ever seen him Squat to go to the toliet, I could not remember him doing this so a bit of research and found that he had a bowl issue where when you sit it blocks him up and is unable to push anything outthere fore liked to go to the toliet standing up as everything sort of slid out. Give everything else a go but if you feel that he is really resisting going on the potty there might be an underlying issue.
  4. I had one hen lay one when she was sitting on my shoulder, lucky I was over the seed bin and it landed in there and I dusted it off and put her and the egg back in her breeding box. It's strange how they lay them in some really strange spots and also when they and you least expect it.
  5. So I have this small issue, three eggs hatched over 10 days ago, all chicks doing well. then yesterday one more egg hatches by the evening the new chick is flat at the opening of the nest box. Today next egg hatches and I discover that the oldest chick is pushing the new baby toward the mouth of the nest box. It has not been feed and I figure that it's fate is the same as baby number 4. So a call to pippi, what to do? suggestions and discussion, a call to MB, yeah she has a hen sitting on day old chicks, she in fact has my hens sister! (you know it's always good to keep it in the family) so at around 8.30pm my sister and I drive to MBs with me blowing on the chick to warm it up (he/she/it was a little on the cold size) and we put them in the nest box. Drive home, waiting waiting waiting, receive PM, chick has full crop, way to go DQ's sister! So without this board I am sure this little one would have lost the fight. Now the issue is what to do with the remaining two eggs? I think they are both due to hatch tonight or tomorrow (if my maths is correct) I don't want to pull them out as they are so close but I don't have another hen to put them under. Suggestions anyone? I know MB has some hens she could put the chicks under, I just can't bring myself to remove the eggs when they are so close to hatching.

  7. got to love it!
  8. Hey Jimmy that might be Ivan from Burwood Birds and pets, he get's birds in from interstate. Give them a yell they sometimes have them in.
  9. Strange I had rats and never had a smell issue, it's listed as one of the plus for rat ownership that they don't smell. Anyway congrats on your new ownership of these two little guys, have fun with them and post pictures please
  10. Jimmy you are correct. There are a few breeders that just breed them and do so because they do not want the line to die out. There is also a group of people who go up to central Australia and catch young or raid nests and bring them back to Victoria to sell them (not legal and I have seen these poor guys first hand). When they have population issues some people are allowed to go to the wild and catch them and bring them back to selected breeders to introduce new stock in to the existing lines. There are also some zoo groups that are starting up breeding lines from wild caught Budgies to help maintain the population. MB's pair, the female has blue on her belly, this is a natural mutation (and where the English type started) They guy I got them off sells them for around $40 a pair but some people can sell them for up to $100 a bird. If you look at alot of them you need to look for ones that have no other colour on them and also have the pointer/sharper head. When the show type breeding started they selected the birds with more colours appearing and also rounder flatter heads and also the larger one. Go for small, sharp head, normal greens to make sure you get as close to the original as you can. Hope that helps.
  11. Preening and this means that he is happy and comfortable. Birds that are stressed or upset or are afraid do not preen themselves.
  12. Neat she said Change not Cage
  13. That's great, it warms my heart to know that one of my bubs is well looked after also his parents are very special to me so he means even more then normal. What did you decide to call him? I can't wait to see pictures. Looks like the other three are all going this weekend.
  14. Give it a go, if it does not work then (am I remembering correctly) your brother makes the home made boxes right? I am sure he could take them out and add ones to the outside
  15. I use a local mix made up by my local feed store and they love it! Never have any left overs, tried the blowing your seed thing once and ended up with under a handful from my 11 cages and aviary so now i don't bother as they eat it all up!
  16. Very pretty
  17. It's hard not to worry about them, it's times like this I wish I could keep them all but I know I can't and I know you and your husband will take really good care of him. Post pictures when you get a chance.
  18. I had one, not sure if it got rid of the mice but when I turned it on Harley would throw himself around the cage and scream untill i turned it off so only used it for about 3 mins in total before getting rid of it.
  19. I like that idea, also Cankers as I still get confused about that one. The other thing that I saw was a dot sheet. hard to explain but basically you have the common issues/illness along the top and then down the side you have symptoms and then you tick the boxes which apply 9 times out of 10 (did that make any sense at all?)
  20. Yeah Elly I do that, if they are not already members then when they get their pack then they will also get the website address.
  21. LOL he will come around, Blue (his dad) took 3 days to settle and then started seeing if he could twist he body in strange ways in the cage to freak me out and hang upside down from his perches! So maybe he just takes after his dad? Also you have to remember he is use to being in a cage with 4 other birds so he will be a little in shock over them not being there.
  22. LOL I was going to offer to take him off your hands as I have the room but then I guess MB beat me to it! Glad you got a solution.
  23. Yeah, this is normal. Try and cover some of the cage so he has a place to retreat to. (drap a towel over one half of the cage so he does not feel so exposed) He might not eat today and wait and see what happens tomorrow. As for water I have never seen some of my guys drink so would not be worried about that. Give him a few days before trying to get him up on your hand, talk to him lots. Remember how loud my bird room is well your house I would say would be alot more quiet. I moved his sisters into my study today as they keep excaping their cage in the bird room and they are all very quiet as well. Give him 48 hours if you are still worried then I can pop around one night after work and see how he is going.
  24. So Jelly bean went off to his new home today I know he will be loved and cared for but still sad to see him go. He use to spend the afternoon on my shoulder while I feed the other birds. Either Jean or Head Case will be going next week and I have someone else coming to look at the whoever remains and Butter. I know it is all part of the game but still it's sad to see them go.
  25. Congrats and i am glad your pants did not fall down!
