  1. FYI the rope is not holding the logs onto the main support, the logs are screwed on the rope is to help him move up and down the main support and also to cover the screws so Elmo does not spend all his time trying to remove them!
  2. Wanyo that sucks. The other guys have given you great advice. Hope it all goes well, my bubs that I have fostered out are all doing well.
  3. Thanks guys. The flip dishes are great. After doing this little project ( you should see the ladder thing that Pippi made for his Bugies) I have been starting to think that I might make a few smaller ones for my guys. some natural swings and rope ladders etc... it was a little annoying when the drill did not work but once we had a working drill it was simple! Also saved myself a bunch on money. About $130 on the stand and $540 on a new cage!
  4. Oh I want one! So Cute!
  5. okay so I traveled out to the burds to find this parrot stand for Elmo only to get out there and discover that the 4 that they had in store are sold So then I got some basic parrot toys and wandered around and pippi who was with me suggested we make our own stand. So we went and got wood from a local park/nature for wildlife area and spent about $20 at Bunnings and this is the end result I have also been looking for another cage as I wanted one with flip dishes so that if I go away for a night my sister or parents can feed him without me worrying that he will bite them or at the very least do the whole "i am going to bite you" dance when they put their hand in his cage. However I found these which we just had to cut a whole in his cage and they fit great. Also fluke that we make one just the right hight so that when he is out we can flip his water around.
  6. I have always done mine with food dye and never had an issue (unless left out in the rain) also mix a little vinillia essence into the food dye, they seem to be attracted to this and destroy and play witht eh toys more.
  7. I am an old school girl at heart and Love my greys and df greys and yf greys. I also like the (and here is where I am not sure what you call them) blue/grey or grey/blue sort of the washed out blue colour. I also like the green/greys. I think I just like the darker birds.
  8. It took me ages to decide to take on my King parrot however I do not regreat it. he so has a few issues and there have been times when I have gone to bed with more cuts and bandages then I ever thought I could fit on my fingers. There are days when I feel shocking that I don't have the time to get him out and then there are other days where he spends only a few hours in the cage. Do think long and hard, also realize that this new bird will take time away from your current birds, and you have to also remember that is the large bird is out then the Budgies need to be in. Please don't let me put you off gettia bigger bird but do think about it. Also if you want you can always come around and say hello to Elmo and see how a bird with "issues" interacts.
  9. brez not to alarm you but I had a hen who had the same type of cere colouration as the first one and then she became a cock and then at the 2 year mark she/he died and we found out that he had a cluster of tumors on the base of his brain, he also spent almost all his time in molt and the vet thought that both the sex change and the molt was caused by hormone inbalance from the tumors. I am NOT saying that your bird has tumors or that you should run him to the vet if he is showing no other signs of illness however you might be right on the hormone inbalance theory.
  10. Don't worry about it, no one here is going to judge you and Ihave never had an issue understanding anything you say here. Also By the way, if you are in melbourne and I am in Melbourne we should catch up and share Budgie stories.
  11. I would love to read his other article, I have a feeling that this bird or the other one you put pictures up of was the one that I was thinking about that was about 3 or 4 years old.
  12. I'll take that one... and that one... and that one... Nice birds
  13. Sorry to here that, I had this happen with one of my breeding hen and it's so annoying because there is nothing that you could have done to prevent it. Hoping you find another nice hen for you cock. *hugs*
  14. Every bird if different. I have birds that could not care less if I stuck my hand in the cage and others I walk past and they throw themselves around the cage like I am trying to kill them. Take it slow and if anything freaks him out stop doing it let him settle and then start again. Good luckkeep us updated.
  15. Was that an offer Jimmy Dad and I will go branch hunting and see what we can find
  16. Working for me, need to find the link that someone gave me a while back of a FD that lived to be about 3 or 4 but he was getting daily injections and special food crop feed into him i belive, will post the link if I can find it.
  17. I got one from k-mart for about $149 ans it is bagless or with bags, I use the bags and so far is is really good.
  18. I have Harley who refused to eat his veggie for about 6 - 7 years and then one day i put the snow pea in like normal and he decided to try it! From there we discovered the joys of veggies. If you want to you can (in the summer months when it is warm) spray his with some water from a spray bottle (make sure you buy a new one and not use an old one that had chemicals in it) that way he will get wet and then preen himself clean. Just make sure he does not sit in a draft as he will get cold.
  19. They joy of making one... really see I was told that it would be so much fun to do the new base of my avairy and to paint it, how I have a half done base and a half painted avairy and no desire (outside of wanting to move the birds back out to it) to finish!
  20. Sometimes nature has different plans for us! WOW and congrats I hope all the babies are healthy and hatch for you.
  21. Yeah but there is the making of part.... it's much more fun to get a big box and go WOW. I think now that I have the new floor (still needs a little work) that I will make something like this for the middle of my avairy but it would have been nice just to go buy one.
  22. http://www.exoticwooddreams.com/catalog20/...e2/101072lg.jpg The lady can make the smaller for Budgies http://www.exoticwooddreams.com/catalog20/gyms.html Why do I have to live in Australia! America gets all the cool stuff!
  23. 44. when you hide a young chick in a showbox at work so you can feed him every few hours and or you take a sick day cause you need to medicate/feed a sick/young bird
  24. This is going to sound silly but are you sure you have a hen and a cock? I have met people who could not work out why their pairs are not breeding and they have not got the gender right (please don't take offence to this, I suck at sexing pied and at some stage had a pair I was planning on putting down when i worked out they where two cocks who just liked each other)
