Could This Really Happen?
2x3,These things can happen, for a number of reasons,Egg Bound, Lack of calcium is one reason a hen will get egg bound. If they are feed a variety of food & not just seed, they should be okay. There is a thread in Faq on feeding & health issue,I must admit I havent looked at it,But will go & look now. I leave these questions to Kaz & Co, to answer.

No Vet!
I would take a chance & take it,to the vet down the road. I would think he should have some Idear, of the problem your bird has.

Current Project
Splat,I think the reason, the clubs don`t have any of those things is,they have no call for them. Most members are established breeders. We did have afellow who would sourse things for anyone. The trouble you would get sick of waiting, the things to turn up,Splat I think if you ask there maybe some one who can point you in the right direction.I watch the ebay, you can pick up stuff at the right price. As long as you know what it is worth. :feedbirds:

Current Project
Daz,I washed up another 40 icecream containers today. No I did`nt eat them all myself. Daz the concave may be okay in the container, that a hen scratches out all the shaveing.I have 2 young hens that have done the scratch out trick. :

Current Project
:budgiedance: Daz,I have never used the concave, the breeder that started me off,was not useing concaves. &had`nt used them for along time & said the icecream containers, were the bees nees & I have`nt any to try anyway. But looking at the photo that Feathers has posted of her chicks on concaves, appear to go, okay on the concaves.I might have to aquire a couple of concaves & try them,

Disaster In The Breeding Room
Splat, thats the thing with budgies, some let the young stay in the pen with them, past there use by date & others , in a blink of a eye, attack the chicks. It always seems to be a chick you thought might of made the grade. From my experiance it is best to take them out, if you see them sitting on the perch.Did you have something in the pen for the young to hide from the parents. A jam tin, with the opening closed so the young can get away ftom the hen or cock if the attack them.

Current Project
Daz make the nest boxes to fit a icecream container in & give those concaves the flick. Makes it easy to keep the nest boxes clean.

Big Lump
The problem you have had with this budgie, is sad.but in the light of the day,she is 7 yrs old.& has had a good life,Just let her go to budgie heaven,Lets face it you are being crual to it.No flames I wear a flame proof suit. But have a soft heart for sick budgies. This has gone on for 5 pages.let the poor thing go to its resting place.

Unsuccessfully Me
Iam not to sure, you say you have 2 breeding boxs & 6 pairs.I guess you have tryed these prs at different times,If they wer`nt in breeding condition. They wont breed.Age may be aproblem. There may be to much feather around the vent & they did`nt actualy did`nt mate,Not being able to see the set up,that may be aproblem, perhaps there is someone in your area. That may be able to help you.Perhaps join a budgie club. Best of luck.

Removing Eggs?
I think if that was the case,I don`t think hens would sit on clear eggs for 18to20 days.I have the odd feeder pair, sitting on clear eggs up to 30 days, just in case I might need to use them.
-
Fledging Vs Heights
If they are old enough to hop on the perch, they will be old enough to glide to the floor.
-
Venturing Out Too Early...?
The problem is your nest boxs, are not deep enough. My boxes are 175 mm sq & 175mm from the bottem of the box to the pop hole.A icecream container sit inside the nest box,to hold the nesting material. It also helps keep the nests clean, as you can lift out the container out & put a fresh one back.My nest boxes hang on the outside of the breeding box, make it easy to check inside the nest.

Variation In Down [fluff] On Chicks:
I would think that 90% of the pet budgies, have the English blood in them. The Australian show budgie is only, half to three quarters the size of the show budgies today. If you are thinking of showing budgies.I would`nt think of useing any of the pet budgie types. You would be that far off the standard it would be a waste of time,If a budgie has`nt a good head, shoulders & length, you are behind the 8 ball. But if you just want to breed pretty birds go right a head. :dbb1:

-
Variation In Down [fluff] On Chicks:
Norm, I think you will find, the heavy down chicks are the show type chicks. The real good chicks, will be covered in fluff. You look at the pet budgie, they are a very tight feather, pin head & all beak & pretty colours.
