jjg, I think a bit more information, will be need, to give you, some help.Like how swollen is the vent, are the feathers around it damp & dirty. Can you feel alump, how many days ago did she lay the last egg.Dose she look fluffed up & have trouble moveing about.Have you seen her out othe nest eating, Waiting a reply,
  2. Feathers, Iwould check the egg on the left in the 1st nest, itlooks to have a indentation in the egg. I read in one of your other threads, you had dead in shell,it might be the moisture. You could just give the hens belly feathers awipe with a damp cloth 2or3 days before they start to hatch. As your birds are inside & I guess you have the heater going it might be takeing the moisture out of the air.
  3. If he is that good Kaz,Iwould be finding him another 2 hens.Get your money worth from him. :ausb:
  4. I would take the hen out of the cage. She maybe inclinde to attack them if she is a feather plucker.
  5. I did that also Daz.But not being to clever with the gene thingy I brought. One of Ken Yorke`s CD you just type in the known history of the hen & cock & press the button & it give you all the results & % of each colour & variety. :feedbirds:
  6. Splat if you have`nt washed them yet.I surgest you use some baby shampoo & a spray bottle with some warm water & a drop of shampoo. Put the birds in a cage of some sort, that dos`nt hold water.& spray them till they are soaked.I made a cage up for the washing job.It fits into my chicken hatching incubator.I then turn the incubator on & leave the door about quarter open & let it run for 1/2 to 3/4 hour & lovely dry budgies.Or place them in front of a small heater, or use a hair dryer. I miss a bit, I take the exess water off them with some paper towel. The main thing.Don`t let them get cold before you dry them.
  7. I don`t know what you were drinking. But you had the English gentleman going.
  8. Gee Daz, Thats a long week & we still have`nt any photos :(Laughing out loud): :feedbirds:
  9. :(Laughing out loud): :
  10. If they are 28days old, just put in the protection in for them & let the cock feed them.
  11. Looking good feathers.Just give that beak a little trim with nail trimmers or a file with a emery board.
  12. Without being able to see it .I could`t give a answer. She may be egg bound,if it is a prolapse, the vent would be kind of turned, inside out & the feathers around the vent, would be,wet & messy.Depending on her age,it might be a tumor.
  13. I`ll take apunt & say,2 males & 1female,1of us will right, Elly/
  14. No blue, just a bad shot or ligting. He/she is definately green. These are the parents. looks to be greywing to me. if so , kaz is right greywing is recessive and so both parents are carrying the greywing gene in a hidden form as the parents in your picture dont seem to be visual greywings. budgies can be mystery bags. Only 4 visual types if not / for blue. :budgiedance: :budgiedance:
  15. Lonebudgie,Throwing in a hidden recessive factor. Can get it up to 74 conbinations, but only 8 visaul.
  16. Just let her lay & leave the eggs in the box * when the chicks have about 30mm tail feathers.Put them on the cage floor for the cock to feed & take the hen away & remove the nest box.End of story.

I would worm him for a start,it could be a sign of a problem building up.
  18. A mate had 10 bags of seed droped off today,$68.00 40kg, the bloke told him,all the seed was being imported,& white millet is now as dear as canery.& said it could go up a bit more before Xmas.

I have 4 flight.I run the hens & cocks together.1 flight has last year birds, the next has the year before birds.& the 3rd has the old birds & ones that have been used,or did`nt preform. The 4th flight has this years early hatch in there,6 early cocks & hens will get a run in November to 6 of both older birds for Xmas,New Year hatching.I have never run the sexes seperate & I have been happy with my results.

KathyW,I use Max`s Cat & Pet litter.I mix it with pine shaveings.I have icecream containers,in my nest boxs. I would use a good 30mm of shaveings in each container,if the hen scraps it out, I leave it till she lays a couple of eggs & then I put some back. The pop hole is 175mm from the bottem of the nest not many hens scrape it all out. I have`nt had a problem with humidity & I have been useing it for the past 3 seasons. The other thing, it would depend on the ventalation of the nest box.

Yes that is what I use, that very brand, because my nest boxs, have a icecream container wih the shaveings in to keep the nest boxs clean.I use some cat litter mixed in with the shaveings, its the litter with Dr Harrey on the box.Its made with extruded rice huls.It keeps down exesse moisture.& no grubby chicks.
  23. I would take my chances & let the eggs hatch in there own good time. You could finish, up with no chicks at all.
  24. That is agood point Pie, If it is Kaye K.the ring wil have WABC or something to show it is a WA ring.
