  1. They may be on there 3rd round. But they may of only feed a chick or 2 & the rest of the eggs fostered out.If they are a top breeding pair.
  2. Libby,I would say your on the money
  3. If it has`nt got plum eyes, its not alace wing & it will be a hen.If its got plum eyes its a cock. The dominit pie.Is a spangle dom pie,by the look of it.
  4. :Gee,talk about riddles. On the other thread you was asking about, shifting birds & you had more cocks then hens. The chicks could be from any number of birds. Or is it just me thats, going on
  5. That a good point Denise,Seeing as 2 of the chicks are albinos, thereis a fair chance, they may of been confused as 1 of the parents would be albino.
  6. What attract one to the other. The desire to breed. There is no rocket sience.
  7. They will look,a light & dark grey.
  8. Sandy,You have 15 budgie,I don`t know how big the cage is.If you have another cage that will hold 13 birds.Put them in that cage & let the breeding pair rear the chicks in the cage they are all ready in.It is best if you are going to breed budgie, its best to pair them up in a breeding cage by themselves.Avery breeding is in the to hard basket.
  9. I have read your post Denise.I think there may be a little mix up in your statement. I doubt a cock bird, would sit on the eggs & hatch them.Iam not haveing a go at you. But other newbee might get the wrong impresion, that a cock bird will sit on eggs & hatch them & feed the chicks.
  10. Who am I to argue. These breeders that are always quoteing violets.Ive not seen any mention of mauve. If you are big on voilets there is a % of mauves.Perhaps they think they are greys.
  11. I do think, some ppl get mixed up with voilets & cobalts. There is more chance of them being cobalts, then voilets. Some of the pictures you see being called voilets are cobalts.
  12. The only problem Norm, when you see a good type budgie,in a pet shop. There is a fair chance its there for a good reason. How old is it Norm, ring colour? I hope he fires up for you.The hen may of had the ring cut off. Some breeders do that.
  13. Norm I thought it had to be Ken Yorke, you were buying the rares from. You will be getting the right information.I have Kens CD`s.
  14. macka replied to Denise's topic in Aviaries
Denise,Use some lazer lite sheeting,If the hawks can see the budgies, they willdrive them into the wire & kill the budgie.I have a bird mesh, that they put overthe grape vines. To stop the birds from eating the grapes. It comes out from theedge of the roof down to the ground about metre outn on the front of the avery & that stops the hawks hiting the wire.
  15. THIS IS A RECORDING.
  16. He may be a greywing. The chicks will all be dominiant pie & 75% will be violet & 25% blue.
  17. Timbo,If you wantt breed albinos. You are not going to breed them useing a bird, thats not carrying the albino gene.
  18. Denise,If the breeder was in your area,He has many byears of breeding & would know the breeding.A dominant pie to albino would be a waste of time. I will give you a run down on the chicks you would breed from that X Normal green dominiant x Albino =25% green dom pie 25% grey green dom pie. 25%Normal green 25%grey green Now if the dom pie is split blue. The results would be 12% blue, green & grey green dom pie & the same in normal. No albinos.Unless the dom pie is split albino & I dought that. But if you mated up the offspring, next year to a split albino or albino. You would breed albino & lutinos, but that 12 months away.So if you want to breed albinos, buy a albino. Better still buy a split Albino.Perhaps you buy a book about budgies,as you seem keen to breed some budgies.
  19. If you have 4 eggs Kaz,the first one should be showing if it fertile. : :bluebudgie:
  20. If you could only get this post to flash up,each time someone, prints the words. I WANT TO BREED>It woud save me,if no one else from getting :bluebudgie:
  21. My flights get cleaned once a year,if they need it or not,Thats in April. The breeding cages are cleaned,at the end od the season. The start of the new season,I put down a layer of sand & cat litter. All I do then is remove the build up of dropings At the end of the round I replace the ice cream container in the nest box with a fresh lot of,wood shaveings & kitty litter,& vacumb a build up of husks out of the cage, leaveing 25 to 30mils in the bottem of the cage. That way the budgies can have a dust bath in the litter in the bottem of the pen.I havent had any problems, with bird alements, tough wood in eight years. :feedbirds:
  22. Denise,Yes there mix is a bit plain.Do they have club rings on if so.What colour & code & I will most probly be able to tell you the all about them.Denise you would be better off buying from a breeder,If you are attending the Geelong show, on Saturday or Sunday,& ask any of the breeders on duty, they will be able to steer you in the right direction.
  23. Denise,Are you feeding a different seed to were you got them from. Were they from a breeder or a pet shop.
