  1. You say they are from a well known breeder,is he haveing any problems' with his birds,if not,you mentioned pet shop birds, one of them may of been carrying the virus,& has come under stress & spread it to the others, I think youy are best to clean them all out & start again, you could finish up chaseing your tail, trying to get on top of the problem.Just bite the bullet & start again,it might be cheaper in the long run.
  2. were they from a show breeder,if so I would have a talk to him & see what problems he has had & if he says no problems,Iwould ask around. If you brought them out of the pet shop, put them down & clean all the area's they have, been in & start a fresh.Do not buy from pet shops.
  3. I use 8mils ACV to the ltr of water, 3 days a week.& have done for years.
  4. Yes so true, you will kill them with kindness,I cant remeber,if you mentioned the size of the cage & nest box, that might have a bit to do with your problems,to close to human contacts,ie Children.
  5. If you only took her to the vet today,You jumped on the problem real quick & no dought she will now put on weight just as quick
  6. To keep a disabled bird, because it makes a lovely companion pet.that is the poorest reason I have ever heard of.The poor thing can do nothing else.BUY A STUFFED TOY & let the poor thing be put to rest. To encourage, people to keep a bird with no feet or any other restriction, where they rely on you to do every thing for them is CRUEL.
  7. Yes that is 5years in biginners, then you are moved up,I think you can ask for a extention to stay in beginners,Iam not sure for how long,There is not a lot of beginners at a lot of shows,In our club we did'n have a biginner in the club for 3 years, at the moment we have 3 But 1 will move up at the end of the season as he will have the 30 points.
  8. For any body to say, they would keep a bird with no feet,It beats me,I could say a lot more, but leave it at that.
  9. If you want to breed violets, mate mauve X sky blue, cobalt will not help the colour Violet. They will be cobalt in colour.
  10. Splat have you trimed or plucked the feathers from around the vent of both the cock & the hen.
  11. No dought Daz, those rules were made up by a group of people, that did't want to many moveing up the ladder. With our system, there ius going to be a log jam in the open.As you have to have 60 points to go to champion leval. In my opinion they will have to bring in the 60 points between inter & open.
  12. If putting meds or vitimins in the water.I would give it to them in small drinkers,
  13. Splat can you explain what system there is in Victoria.. I am always interested in the differences around the states. Daz if you go to the BCV web page & click on Points & Exhibitors & at the bottem of the page it is explained, how you gain the points,to move up the ladder, you need 30 points to move from Beginner to Intermedite &30 to move Open. Then 60 points to move to Champion, then you have 3 years to accumalate 60 points to stop in Champion,in the fourth year the points you gained in the first year as champion are droped off.

I would think that the hen fighting with the cock, would of broke the eggs.Take him out & let the hen hatch, the remaining eggs. I have had a hen rear 3 chicks by herself, when I did't have a foster to give them to. The wire squares will be ??. 1.2mm would be the wire thinckness.
  15. Yes be interesting to see the photoes,???????

Iam not to sure it will work,But for your sake I hope it dose,I would of just left her by herself. Are the eggs fertile,
  17. I would be puting the fertile egg over to the other hen as you test then.to see if they are fertile, you will have to mark the eggs as you transfer them over.Or better still mark the non fertile eggs & as you transfer the fertile eggs over, throw away a non fertile egg.
  18. You will have t donate a trophy & sash for the beginners, Splat,That way you have the chance to win.
  19. You are never know if you don't try, put the eldest 2 across, with the other pr. You should of had then across, long before this. With a nest of 8 & all fertile, I would of been moveing them as soon as I could mark the chicks,if you wanted to keep a record of which nest they were from.
  20. It will be a replacement bird,But the same breeder.
  21. Yes Kaz you would be pretty close to the mark there,by the time they will sit on the perch & show the black beak should of faded.

For the Geelong Auction we encourage the breeders to enter only young birds. ie, 09 rings for the next year auction. Jimmy you would be best to talk to members in the club & buy a hen or 2 off them, If buying hens at the auction, only buy young birds, they havent been in the breeding box & there is a better chance of them being okay.
  23. Your receight would have the lot numbers you brought & no dought you have a catologe & that will tell you all you will need to know.

Yes if there is a good hen in a Auction, buyer beware. If it was any good it would't be in the Auction,in most cases.
  25. I think you are getting a bit carried away about border checks,I don't think he would have cattle ticks, or fruit fly,so you should be okay there. You are not tgoing into WA.So the seed is not a problem.I brought 4 budgies back from Scone to Geelong, they were in the cage, for 3days.It was just a carry cage about 400x250 I put a couple of millet sprays in the for them & a piece of apple the day I travellerd home siting on the floor behind the frount seat. They arrived home in good condition.
