How To Help A Beginner
JQ,If you want to breed & show budgie, you have, all te help you will need, all you need to do is put it into pratice, if you want to show & breed budgies. You should be able to put a good breeding team together, with the help of the experinced breeder. There is is the insentive, for you to come in on the ground floor & make a go of it at breeding & showing,at very little cost,if that is what you would like to do.

How To Help A Beginner
If you want to take on,breeding show budgies, The first year, join a club & go to the meeting & shows, You take it all in & talk to the members in the club, now not all of them will be helpful, but you will find the ones, that will help you,now it all depends how you come across,if you give the imprssion that you are willing to learn, you wil will be given all the help you need. But if you come over as some one who thinks, you are going to be breeding, show winners, with your first round, there may not be a lot of help there,I would say we have had 10 people come to the club in the last 5 years & 3 are still there,2 have climbed up the ladder, One of them is a natual & will be into open class next year,he has that breeders eye,to know what to pair to to what & the outher 1 it his first year of showing & is only a few point, off moving up to the next level & will go up at the end of next year & the 3rd member are a married couple & they are just happy to just show in the club shows & be a help around the club & that is a big part in being excepeded in the club & helped along the way.The other 7 have come & gone,in most cases, you can tell.if they are going to make it to be a breeder, show person, any one can breed a budgie but it takes alot of work to become a show person.I had 2 very good chicks in anest & yesterday the hen decided to scalp them,I saved one,but the other one, did'nt make it.But you have to put that behind you & move on, will bre3d the pr again & put the egg or chicks under a pr that I know will rear them & the hen will only get to lay eggs again if the young one make it to show standard & if not, will go it the bird dealer. I know this is a long winded story, bet thats what it takes,to move up thew ladder in this show game. come & gone,it was all to hard to handle or they thought they were going to be a champion breeder over night.

Trying To Make A Travel Cage
It dosent matter how it looks Splat,as long as it passes the air freight standard for a cage.I have had birds sent to me,it those plastic boxes, with a lot of holes drilled in the lid & electric ties for extra safty. The best point they are light & compact. :laughter:

Pairing One
Yes when putting on a ring on young ones, always check that you can't pull the ring off, because the hen will.

Thats easy dont take photoes of things that you know are not right. Then no one will pick on it.

Baby Budgie
The biggest problem I see with the last chick not being feed, you kept moveing the chick, If the other 5 were being feed, they would of feed the 6th chick.I have at the moment 2 nest of 8 & they are growing like a a house on fire,if they have the food in the box to feed the chicks they will feed them, the other thing you can do if you have another pr feeding, say 1or 2 chicks, stick it in there box & they will feed it.

Breeding Again
There are a few reasons why eggs don't hatch, you could break the shell & see if the chicks went the full time,if they did the shell may of been to hard, the chicks may of been to weak to chip out.there is other thing that can go wrong.I they died before there full time, again there is a number of reasons, but without seeing the eggs & your set up.I would only guessing.

Outdoor Aviary
I have a 1500mil loft out front of my flights, with a 700mils wide clear polly sheet on top to stop the rain comeing into the flight & the birds can still stand at the front when it rains & have a good shower,

Bird Room And Aviary
I was just going to say the same thing Kaz,the hen would be struggling to keep the eggs under her, they would all be be up against wall.

My Spangle Line
- Record Keeping Is Important
Because the hen became egg bound, she may of been a old hen. Me being me I also find the story a bit confuseing, yousay the eggs are fertile.Egg #5 the hen would of been sitting on it for at least 4days to show up fertile .Did you do a post mortum on the hen, as you say it was very internal the egg,if not it my have been another problem.- Freezing Soft Food
Feeding like that, you will have to watch they don't go to fat.Very small helpings would be the way to go,or you will kill them with kindness.- Big Blue ( Aka Kd ) And Spice
If the cock is called Big Blue, the hen must be huge,or is it a optical alusion on the perch. The hen towers over him.- Violet
Yes Kaz,The only difference in the photoes is you said the top one is a Greywing. Just looking, you would say Spangle.- From Little Things, Big Things Grow!
Yes Kaz I like that one.  - Blue Birds
I guess, what Iam trying to say is,there is alot of confusion, between the violet & cobalt. You only have to look at the standard colour chart. The true violet is a very deep colour. It will be very interesting when they make it a class for points at the National.- From Little Things, Big Things Grow!
only your not meant to touch them just shine torch through i love how cynical you are macka i think we need to get together for a drink one day would be quiet amusing :nest: i think GB Iam just a grumpy old man.I do not intend any malice,to any one I just type it,as I would if I am talking to anyone,It my opinion on things, be it right or wrong. But I am never wrong.- From Little Things, Big Things Grow!
That is very good, all those now,who don't know how to candle an egg, just need ti look at the Video.- Blue Birds
That is correct GB,the blue series.- Blue Birds
If all these sky blue Voilets ? cobalts. Why is it that the Voilet class,is just starting now as a Display class, to breed the Violets up to a compition class,or is it only in Victoria, that a they are not a strong class, there is some good ones about, but most are down the line birds.- Hen Sitting On Clear Eggs
GB,You are a quick learner,I must of spoken to you for no more then 15 minites,I would't use the person again, who told you, your eggs were not fertile, unless you had the dates mixed up.At 7 days you should be able to tell, with out to much trouble.- Hen Sitting On Clear Eggs
Lutino Budgie, how hard is it to say,the first egg was layed on the 20th of September or the 1st of the month & a smart A like me, would say have you candled them & you don't have to be very clever to candle a egg,if it is 12 to 14 days in to the cooking & the light shines through it,it aint going to hatch, end of story - Record Keeping Is Important
