  1. So sorry for your lost, it happens to us all. Last Friday week I got up early fed the birds and did my usuall check, I notice a hen off her eggs but I was rushing so I didn't think to feel them to see if they were still warm, and I should of relised as this hen sits on her eggs and bearly moves but I just figured she was out for a feed and all was good so I rushed off to work and when i came home I wet out to do my checks again and found her on the floor looking pretty crappy, I picked her up and to have a look, No pooy bum, NOT egg bound just gravely ill and no answer to why anyway she died about 5 minutes after I found her. This hen was perfectly fine the day before. I think these things just happen. She could of starved herself but she had a cock in there with her so who knows. The only thing that really annoyed me is that I fostered an egg from my iffy hen and my white df spangle son of my white boy and Kaz's white boy is the uncle any way the eggs were ice cold so I put them under another hen but they didn't hatch.

Lovely little red eye chickies there Sunnie
  3. I am finding the whirly bird great addition Gb, I couldn't believe how cool it was in there.
  4. Thanks Dustin, Hey Kaz I have bought one aluminium sliding window from the salvage place it is about 90cm wide and 50cm high I think ill need to measure it again because when I put in next to the shed today it seem to take up heaps more space than I planed. I guess it would of been a bathroom window in its past life but anyway I only want something about 30cm high tops and as wide as I can get it but I really don't think there is any window out there like that second hand anyway, so that is why I am thinking of making one, but I will keep looking though.
  5. Today I was in the shed and it was very cool with the door closed and with the door open. There is no window yet. I think the whirly bird is doing it's job. It was a very hot day too. But yes GB when the window goes in I am planing on another long window up above the breeding cages along the width of the shed mainly for light but also for air. Trying to work out how to make it that it opens and closes and is watertight. There will be wire there to. But at this stage I am very happy with how cool it is so far. It is surprising how big the shed is being 30cm higher than a normal garden shed, it makes it look so much bigger. Happy as larry Today I put silicone all around the bottom of the shed to make it water proof. Next step is to start lining it. AND putting my window in. So more pics and updates soon
  6. Thankyou I am really pleased with it. I am hoping the extra hight helps Gb, normal garden sheds are only between 165 and 180cm high at wall, with the gable peak mostly 207cm max but my shed is 210cm at wall and 254cm at gable peak and the wirly bird should suck out some of the heat hopefully. I am using insul bats for the walls and 12mm melimine for the walls so that should keep some heat out and the ceiling is having insul foam board and and probably the same wood as the walls but maybe I might use plyboard because it is lighter. The window is about 70cm long and about 60 cm high it should let in plenty of light besides the door. I am making a wire door too. And I am thinking of cutting a long window across the back about nearly the length of the shed and about 30 to 40 cm deep for extra light but I am trying to figure out how I can do it so it opens for air also. I will check tomorrow to see how hot it gets as a steel shed only.
  7. Yippi all done, Emiel was able to help in the end, only took 2/12 hours Some pics Half the roof on and the whirly bird Tomorrow I am applying silicone to the outside around the bottom
  8. Sad Greg and I can't put the shed up on our own, we had help lined up but he had to pull out last night. I asked my brothers but one is to sick and the others are to busy or just won't. My sons are to far away. Not fair. looks like the shed is going to be laying around for ages now. Half is still leaning against the shed and the other half is laying on the cement slab. Tracey my sister inlaw said they had 3 people put theres are up ( 2 holding the sides and one screwing). Well there is just Greg and I
  9. I have a torch the same as Kaz's I candle all the time so easy, never have to touch an egg. You need one too Dave
  10. No kaz I don't want to because I am insulating the roof too. That clear stuff lets a lot of heat in . It should all work out okay I hope.
  11. No actually the one I got was zinc colour and on special for $53.00 the colour ones $98.00 and the hard plastic sky light ones $98.00, the are smaller than the tin ones too but heavier. I kinda wished I had of got the sky light one now because I need all the extra light i can get in there.
  12. 2 more DAYs before SHED goes UP, I just can't wait now I got my whirly bird yesterday I almost bought one that was clear hard plastic, it is designed to be a sky light too but the guy talked me out of it saying that the tin ones last longer. BUT I thought it was a good idea though.
  13. So annoying when that happens, hope chick is okay and the rest of the clutch hatch and all is okay. Thanks for the pen idea because I have been using one that is a pain so will go shopping for a sharpie
  14. Yeh I think they come in full circles, halve circle and I don't know what else
  15. Kaz I would, i would go for the sea change(country change) The only thing that would put me off is rebuilding aviaries and birdroom. Only saying that is because Greg was looking at buying a house and land near Kyabram but rebuilding everything kinda changed his mind.
  16. They look like they are with the little hair do. When control breeding them you are ment to put one with the crest to one with no crest, I only learnt that because i use to help Greg with his. I love them because they are cute. But I don't like crested budgies though
  17. Beautiful Princess parrots Kaz I just love the yellow ones, aren't their babies so different from budgie chicks . The canaries are they Glostershire (border fancy) canaries, Greg use to breed them until last year.
  18. I had one like that and quite sure DIS but left it and it hatched I was quite pleased too. Nubbly what type of pen do you mark your eggs with?
  19. What town is it in Kaz? Manderah I know that is spelt wrong It looks a lovely old house, but heritage listing would almost put me off because they stop you from doing stuff. But saying that, if it is what you want go for it. I am not a city girl. Give me country life anyday even if it is a pain to travel between towns for jobs, still love the country life. Bed and breakfast sounds good. Make it pay for itself Oh is that a church across the road?
  20. New

and your babies are real little cuties
  21. okay then SL26 I am sure there will be plenty of them, he has Bin Larden written all over his face He was a good boy today though Off to buy him some new toys tomorrow, he has destroyed a few already
  22. I have a piece of 1in x 2 in dressed pine about 1/2 inch from bottom which I use those fly screen plastic clip things to keep my wire fronts in place. I get my trays made from the metal place. They make them to how ever you want them. But I have also gone to a recycle place that has the steel sheeting, you only want it light weight or you would never bend it. But I buy a small sheet and I use the angle grinder and cut my own, then bend the front up. Cheap way of doing it.
  23. Thanks Anne and SL but at the moment he is my least favorite pet, 2 days ago he got on the outside table and chewed up a few things (my things too)and today he did the same thing again but this time Greg's things. He is a naughty boy. Greg is thinking of making him a kennel to put him in while we are not home because he is eyeing off the budgies and cockatiels. He just doesn't trust him. BUT other than that he has been really good. SL26 sorry you lost your Archie you can Jake I really wouldn't mind
  24. Good luck with them Squeak
  25. Mine this year are BCV 351-450 because I was too slack to order them in time, here in Vic we have to have our orders in by March I think because of the change over date issue, anyway I left it to late late and had to settle for the BCV rings. It doesn't worry me at all but next year i will get my act together and get coded. I am thinking of changing my code to JG or JH or MH because I am thinking of changing my membership to Greg and I.
