Can Any Tell Me What Variety This Is?
Answer to your question is if a male is split cinn or opaline and the female is cinn or opaline you will get I think it is 25% cinn and oplaine cocks, 25 % split cocks, 25% normal hens and 25% cinn or opaline hens. Depending if the hen is cinn or opaline. BUT if the cock is normal and the hen is cinn or opaline only hens will be cinnamon and opalineYou treat sex link,(opaline cinnamon) as the same as inos.

I think there are a heap of things we feed are birds that they don't get in the wild.

Way to go. Now you just need some hens, now that will be hard call because no one likes to part with decent breeding hens, the saying is if you want a decent hen you need to breed it yourself. Phill might know someone who may be selling some, you may be lucky. By the way I would love to own them birds even now.

What Timber To Use In Aviary
I use melamine for shelving in the aviary because it is easy to clean, I use dowel and 1 inch x inch pine and hardwood perches also. And as Phill, normal house building materials are fine just as long as they are not treated. Hey Phill how did you do you awning because Greg is meant to be making a veranda for mine to keep the rain out also but we were going to put post in to hold it up but your idea looks better, mice can't climb up it. But how does it stay there, what supports do you have etc,, hey send me the plans pleasssssssssssse

Will that breeder sell you any more like a couple of hens or a couple more pair because that would be the way to go. And then try and get some from the other breeder. Unless you have bred before, I believe you need to start at the bottom and do the hard mile, learning as you go. But then I also believe you need something worth while to give you a chance to breed some chicks to keep you interested. Good luck with it all.

Show Budgies Wanted
Hi, If you have joined a club. My advice would be to ring the secretary and ask for some members phone numbers that may have birds for sale. That's how we go about it here. You are still up for around $50. a bird of any substance, some breeders will sell for around $20 - $25. but most are around $50. and if they are a champion breeder, most their birds start at $50. and mainly $100. upwards depending on the quality and line. You are best to stay clear of beginners as they are still learning and only some of them have good birds. You are best to find a breeder that is doing well on the show bench and buy from him or her. Don't make the mistake that many of us make by buying birds from all over the place, because vary rarely does it work. You are best to buy from 2 breeders and it is best if their birds are related to a degree. Put it this way 6 lesser birds from one breeder that is doing well on the show bench that is lined bred for around $150 - $300 is better money spent than buying **** from every where. This is my in put only, but how many of us have done this , yours truly also. Got lost in the have to have this bird and that bird and find out that all money was wasted. So be patient and do your home work. Oh and my advice is to stay away from auctions, I think they are highly over priced for what you get. my opinion only again. But at least from a breeder that is willing to sell some half decent birds is money well spent. For example a bird from the auction may fetch $300. or $600. but from the breeder's home may only get a $100.00. But saying all this a lot of top breeders will not sell from home because they get more money from the auctions. My opinion also.

Especially bought stuff from supermaket, will have sprays and snail bait etc, kill birds in NO time. I do buy silverbeet from supermarket when my supply runs out which is NOW. And I put it in a bucket of water and let it sit for few hours , sometimes over night and they get it first thing in the morning. I wash any vegetable I give my birds but I wash veges I buy for much longer.

Gb do mean that little one on the right hand side, avatar or something, isn't that a bar head.

Can Any Tell Me What Variety This Is?
I know what you are saying Gb, because in the first post he looks cobalt, in one of the photos but the one one in the first post looks vary grey too. We know for sure that he is not grey because of the cheek patches. The best thing to do is take a photo of him with out flash in natural light. And like GB said what are the parents as that would help heaps.

Seems I am a little bit experienced in photograghy, having my certificate 1 and 2. I would say that this photo colour is wrong, a persons hand is not that colour , so by the time you fix colour of the hand the birds colour would come back to too and it would be more like the second lot of photos. The bird would be a mauve and the face would be more yellow (lemon colour) so to me I would think it is a yellow face 2 which would explain the colour running through the wings.

Herbs In Soft Food
Sounds like they like it then, well different herbs anyway. Thanks for your in put. Gb I have parsley growing and Greg grows garlic, we did have a thyme bush but Greg pulled it out last year. Parsley is growing wild in our back yard. so I guess if I buy some basil it may take off too.

Why do you say golden face Dean. I am asking because I do not know much about the golden face, I know Gb does. But i still reckon yellow face mauve because the yellow is not golden to me it is pale like a yellow face, does that make sense.

Herbs In Soft Food
I was sent a link on a German breeder"Florian Böck" from a friend and he uses this herb mixture in his soft food, I assume it is commercial made. Other Countries are far more advanced than we are when it comes to additives and vitamins for budgerigars and caged birds. Here in Australia there isn't much available specifically for budgies, most of us use pigeon and horse products etc. Just wondering if any breeder here has used anything like it. Any way here it is... Vitalbirds Champion- -special composition- A preventive herbs-mixture against crop problems. For good food absorbtion. Helps birds to maintain a good condition. Mixed with soft food. basil, oregano, thyme, sage A natual product in food-grade 1 heaped tablespoon for 1/2 kg soft food
