  1. Hi Renee, It's good to see you back. Sounds like you are going to be very busy, good luck with your breeding and look forward to see your results. Your pied boy is lovely.
  2. Cool! yes can't wait. need a bit of female power in our club.
  3. Hi Sharon and Welcome to the Forum. Kyabram would be closer for you than Bendigo. And I would love another woman in the club being the only one in our club. Our next meeting is Tuesday the 13th of September at the Kyabram Pigeon club room at the Kyabram Show grounds at 7.30 pm. come along and meet some members. Next Feb we are having a sale night, members bring there culls (not crappy ones ones) along with the price they want, they can range anywhere between $20 and upwards. And other members can buy them. The whole idea is that we share our birds around, the different varieties etc so we can breed and have more birds and varieties for the shields. Go onto the BCV web sight and find the clubs you will be able to find the secretaries and phone numbers of Bendigo and Ky. I can give you Kys my message if you want me to. Please come to Ky club. lol. Bendigo have plenty of women in their club already and I am very lonely. lol
  4. Time for another update... I bought a humidity reader does any one know what the humidity should be. well I am reasonably happy with what's happening at the moment, I have some fertility from some of my best birds and have some babies that are looking very promising especially this little chap. he is in the photo above but now a little older and I thought he might have been a girl but now am sure it is a cock. He blows is head beautiful and I reckon he is the best baby that I have bred in the last 2 years. He is not six weeks old yet. I have taken heaps of photos so here they are, please tell me what you think.
  5. Gb you are having a bad run like me by the sounds of it. That rotten splat's hens daughter. That egg eating is a pain, are they eating or just destroying. I have 4 full sisters of the white boy and desperate to get young from them. Last year I got one from one hen yellow Df spangle hen but he died this year and he was really good. This year I did get 2 yellow df spangles from her so far. But I then put her with one of my best cocks and clear eggs. Her sister another yellow Df spangle, well last year she laid soft eggs. This year her 1st round were normal but all clear but most of them landed on the floor. This round all landing on floor and breaking and some look a little bit soft, they get plenty of calcium so I don't know why she lays eggs like that, if they don't look soft , they are absolutely huge eggs. the third sister sky blue cinnamon opaline spangle you know the one that had the crook eye well she lays eggs but always clear. the 4th sister another yellow df spangle , Geoff got 2 chicks from her last year, one died but the surviving one is stunning. But i got her back and all I get is clear eggs, she goes into the nest and just doesn't come out to be mated. and then there is the 5th sisters daughter, well the 5th sister a white Df spangle hen died May last year, but her daughter a yellow Df spangle hen she is a cow too. Nothing last year and so far nothing yet but 2 weeks ago a cock nearly killed her so she is still recovering. So I am having big problems with keeping this line going. the white boy I have had clear eggs but the last hen he did have 2 fertile eggs and they both hatched but the 1st one died because of the hen not feeding it and the I fostered the second egg and the chick is a grey spangle and looking good. Oh on a good note their father the yellow Df spangle I have him with his grand daughter and they have 5 fertile eggs which I fostered. fingers crossed.
  6. I know what you mean, my new camera doesn't show up the white either, I don't use the flash.
  7. Still has bars on head so yes under 3 months and the cere looks very pink, so it could be a male. Is there any white around the nostrils. Oh by the way Hi and Welcome to the Forum.

Hi Daz and welcome to the forum, how is the breeding going, any fertile eggs, well you would have chicks by. Update please.
  9. I don't have half that stuff. Most of it you should already have. Keep it simple.
  10. Wow that sounds like a great day out. Would love to go there and see his birds and I would the horses too. I am very pleased that he helped you out with a bird at a reasonable price, great to encourage beginners.
  11. So true
  12. Why! don't breeders have breeding rooms for their birds there. I just love my new bird room and little kitchen. Everything is so much easier now. I bought the lino for my birdroom yesterday but need to wait for the birds to stop breeding to lay it, so I quess that won't be until November.
  13. lol I think I have made Greg nervous around me now when he does adventurely help me. He complains that he never gets it right. lol. I think it is because women are more particular and men are more slap bash and that will do,lol
  14. Well that is a good sign, so you never know. good luck with it all.
  15. Looks great Maddy. ha ha the first thing I thought , look the tools are still lying around, us women are very handy when needed don't you think, it's quite amazing what we can achieve when we put are minds to it. LOL who needs men around.
  16. oh what adorable little chicks, Maddy your birds in the aviary look good too, some nice birds there.
  17. What colour are the yellow birds eyes?
  18. Good luck with your lesser varieties Squeak, me I am still sticking to the easier varieties for the time being, except I have started on clearbodies and of course lutino and albino but they are for my clearbodies, but already I am having a head with the clearbodies with the suffusion. Next year I would like to have a go at lacewings. I would like to follow your journey with them.
  19. Good luck with your future little family. Is the hen in and out of the nest all the time , that is a good sign.
  20. i use pine wood shavings from the pet store, I know some breeders use lucerne chaff, which I would too but the bags are to big for me to store. I have used it when some friends gave me some last year and I found it much better the wood shavings and plus on it is that the hen can nibble (eat) it.
  21. How could you tell Gb, I mean that he blew his testes out.
  22. Yes I thought that strange, putting chick back, when you least expect it then will attack the chick if she has started laying again. If you have another cage put the chick and cock in that so he feeds it, put a little container on the floor like an up turned margarine container so the chick has some where secure to hide and the if you want you can put the cock in with the hen for a few hours a day to do his business if you want the hen to stay there and lay that badly. But the cock needs to be with the chick more until it learns to feed by itself. Never! never!! put a chick in with a hen that is not raising babies it will kill it.
  23. Only problem is it looks like it will be flecked going by those bars at the front of the head. But i got her out tonight and showed Greg and as he walked over towards me and he was about 15 feet away and he wow. so fingers crossed. But one thing for sure she or he will differently help cement my line. The father this chick is the violet green and then his dad is the violet shield winner and then his dad the wow bird... and the violet greens mother is dark green spangle, daughter of the yellow df spangle and his dad is the wow bird. The old violet hen is the foundation hen used with the wow bird, so she is the mother of the violet and the mother of the dark green spangle hen. Now the mother of this chick is a sky blue spangle hen daughter of my white Df spangle, then his dad is the yellow Df spangle and then his dad the wow bird. But the mother of the sky blue spangle is an outcross. But it looks like it has all worked, there were only 2 fertile eggs in the nest and the hen didn't feed the first chick and it died, so I fostered this chick and thank god I did, but i have been haveing problems with her because the nest i fostered her to sat hard on the chicks an done turned out splayed so I grabbed this chick out and put in other nest but when she was only 2 and 1/2 weeks old I found her on the cage floor every day for a few days and I kept putting her back but the hen wasn't feeding her probably so I put her back in the nest that sat tight but all is good, found her on the floor once and now she is content to stay in the nest and she is thriving now.
  24. I have this cracker I hope, this dark green chick is from the violet green cock. Look at the head on it, and she is only 4 weeks old. I think it is a hen as there is white around the cere but Greg reckons cock. But it is far the best I have bred this year and last year so far. here are a few photos but she would stay still so they are not very good.

Sounds like you are doing a great job, glad it's you and not me, I tried it a couple of years ago.
