  1. I had a look at that last night and I was surprised at how many 2007 hens were for auction and how many hens had their rings cut off. I guess if they didn't go for to much and you got just one chick it might be worth it but to many things can go wrong with hens especially old hens.
  2. Here are some photos of some of my chicks. Sorry the photos are not very good a bit blurry. Grey green from my hunter bloodline birds. i think this little fella is going to be nice. Photo doesn't do him justice Sibling to the one above, I think a hen, she looks much better in person than the photo, is a lot smaller than her brother, wasn't fed probably as a pinky. This is the clear body nest, there is 1 clearbody in there and 2 in another nest and there are 2 yellow Df Sp and the 2 grey greens in there and a dk green spangle, The spangle has been moved to another nest to lighten the load. the chicks are from 3 different nest. The same nest This nest had 4 but the smallest died yesterday. There is a white Df spangle from a nest above and 3 from the the violets nest. This nest is the violets nest, the hen is a violet daughter of shield winner and the father is her uncle a grey cock, he is full brother to the violet, they hatched 6 eggs and she is a good little mother but I transferred her last 3 because I put older ones in there because I was having so many problems. So her last 2 died. I just hope all these babies make it and things improve.
  3. I tend to agree with the above answers but spangle pied does look more grey green to me. And the hen my first thoughts greywing but she good be dilute (suffused). The body colour is quite light.
  4. Yes that is what I thought when I saw the hen, she looks normal spangle to me.
  5. No it died at about 7 days and there was another the same in another nest and it died about 4 days and there was a chick in another nest that had a broken leg at 1 day old, I put that one out of it's pain though, the leg looked broken between the thigh and the knee it was a white double factor spangle. I am just having a real bad results this time this year. But so far i have 2 grey greens from one nest, one is a bit small never got fed early on, but they look like they will be nice birds. 2 yellow df spangles and showing some promise. 3 clear bodies I think light green 1 dark green, 1 light green spangle from another nest, there should be another one but every thing is so messed up at the moment, I have to wait for them all to feather up to work out who owns who. 1 white df spangle from another nest. 4 chicks from another nest one is grey but I don't know what the others are yet but one isn't growing probably and looks strange in it's colour. all these chicks are in 3 nest, there are 5 in one nest, 5 in another nest 4 in another , 14 all up so I am missing one here but I am not sure which one it is. all these chicks are from quite a few different nest. so confusing. Anyway I have another nest with 2 chicks and a couple more to hatch and they are from 3 different nest also. I have have another nest that hatched one this morning which is the other fertile egg from my white boy because when the hen didn't feed the chick I wasn't taken any more chances and I transferred it yesterday and it hatched this morning, there are a couple of fertile eggs in the nest belonging to the parents in there and a egg from another nest where the hen went off the eggs but I probably found then cold to late but you never know. I will try and post some pics soon.
  6. No Robyn things are no better, I have I think 17 chicks but i should have about 40 chicks plus. They hatch and the hens won't feed them, so they are dead the next morning. Have saved a couple by transferring. Yesterday I went out and found a chick from my white boy dead, it hatched the day before, hen didn't feed it. And I found a 12 day old dead, noticed it wasn't growing probably in the last few days, had a full crop though. Yesterday I empty some boxes and pulled apart a few pairs. I took some pics the other day but haven't pt them on the computer yet, will try and do it soon
  7. So then Kaz one of the parents would have to be a grey wing. Sorry that you lost it, I am having the same problem here, hens are attacking yet but they are just not feeding them. Yesterday a chick from my white boy hatched (only 2 fertile eggs) and the mother has wonderful directional feather, so really counting on these chicks, well the stupid hen didn't feed the chick. Dead this morning, and I found a 12 day old chick dead too.

Send Kaz PM and ask her Taz because there is a place in Melbourne (i think Melbourne) I just can't find the address that is very could on price. Do you have a Cheap as Chips store over there in Tazzie because they sell them for $30.00 each which isn't a bad price. They have much thicker and sturdier plastic trays than the normal ones than ones I have got from the places mentioned here.

It looks quite good, it is a suspended aviary, I don't think you would fit to many in . maybe 10.. It is 200mt wide that's good but It isn't very deep so the rain will get right to the back. I would ask your dad to put tine on the whole roof and enclose one end, like where the tin or roof is already and there is tin on the end, well I would enclose that whole end in so the birds have some protection the elements and their seed stays dry. Rats that's where the door is. Well maybe if your dad puts tin on the whole roof and having it hanging over more than it is now the rain might not get is as far. Like the crocodile.
  11. I wouldn't, I think the love birds would rip the budgies legs off or something like that.

    Welcome back Sunshine
  13. Well said Gb
  14. Hi pip, I haven't really bothered with it lately, any notes you can send me would be great, I couldn't work out how to do the strain one or I think from memory I couldn't get the stuff to do it. Every time I checked the birds poops all I ever found was megabacteria, never seemed to be able to find cocci. Maybe the birds didn't have it. But if you have some good notes or directions I would be very happy to read them. Cheers
  15. My reply is the same as Twisted and I am also adding that Equimax is for horses NOT budgies.
  16. That product you have is similar to the pestene, i use it only under the nest concaves, I do not put it on the birds. As for coopex ask at your produce store, it is mainly used to kill spiders ants etc. To use on birds you need to make a weak solution.
  17. It doesn't say that in the post Kaz, but I am know to be as blind as a bat, lol.
  18. That should be fine. But when you do use it just make up enough for 1 day so there will be no wastage.
  19. I use this product under my nest concaves is sounds similar to the product you have there. I wouldn't put it on the birds though. Go to your vet and get some ivomec, tell them what you want it for.one drop on the back of the head and no mites. You should spray your perches and any little nooks and cranny with a mixture of coopex. Coopex and Pestene can be purchased at produce stores.
  20. I haven't use the vitamins you are talking about, they sound like a pigeon one, am I right. Anyway it doesn't matter we all use pigeon products. I use probotic after the birds get treat on antibiotic it calms the flora in the tummy. But they say you should use it more often like a couple days a week. Should be changed everyday, goes off, slimy like etc. The vitamins I use 3 days a week but on the other days I use tracmin which is a vitamin to and one day a week they get plain water. Vitamins should be changed each day too. If you can't change your water each day, you should only use plain water but then that should be changed that each day too, the birds poop in it, they get seed in it etc. When you give your birds vitamins take notice what colour the water is when you give it to them and the next day you would notice there is NO or hardly any colour in the water. You can give the 2 products when you like but I don't think every 3 months will help much with the vitamins.
  21. OH No !!! I want the dominant pied hen, she looks grey, being after one for ages... please, Wish I lived near you Phill.
  22. okay I worked it out Phill, My birdroom faces West, so it gets strong winds and rain, and in the summer strong afternoon sun. There is a climbing bush in the front about 5 feet away so it would break some of the wind, it separates the main yard from my bird room area and keeps Jake out too. I don't won't it any closer because the mice might climb up it and jump on my roof. so far I am mouse proof which is lovely. I told Greg about the way you did yours and he said it would be a cheaper way than what I have planned.

Taz very very nice. Well done with your placing at the Nationals, 7th is something to be proud of because there were some outstanding birds there this year. Forgot to mention he looks a lovely complete bird nice outline.
  24. I thought that is how you did it But I would have a hard time doing mine like that because the roof is lined but I will ask Greg and see what he says. But I might still do it like my original plan because when it gets hotter I am going to need to put shade cloth across the front because I my bird room faces the worst way. South is the worst right and is it east or west the is second worst, But anyway at the moment my birds get plenty of afternoon sun but when it warms up a bit it will be just awful. It is not cold in there now at all in the winter so I can image how hot it will get later on. It's all because where the door and window face, I hate it but had NO choice.
  25. My screen she looks cobalt but then it does look iffy because she looks cobalt grey to me, so she probably is a violet.
