  1. Macka would be better at this than me, Well there are about 17 or so teams clubs each club selects at least 3 birds of each variety which means sometimes their are over 1000 birds at the shield. The selection are done the weekend bfore the shield our club was Tuesday night 5 days before. unbroken caps should be the same as your state. Any sign of them capping like ring eye , pin feathers, cere changing and adult feathers showing are out. My df spangles are 8 weeks old and have slightly brown ceres so they were out. Macka please help me out
  2. Looking real good Dave, you must be real proud
  3. The only problem is I am getting old in the tooth and my memory is not as good as it use to so I am already freaking out, but I keep telling myself I can do it as I aready Have heaps of experience, plus animals love me for some reason.
  4. Macka it's hardly worth our team going not many birds at all

Good luck Daz with your next show. If I do any good Sunday I think I will be going up to intermediate too because I only need 5 points. Last shield when I won the Violet class I received no points because the class was not a shiled class but it is now. So I have my fingers crossed as long as he keeps his tail.
  7. Thanks DrNat great advice will do that
  8. Thanks Renee and Nubbly, yes you should see me there Macka on my little lonesome if I don't pull out. How many birds from your club are selected Macka
  9. No have to start looking and yep it sounds hard. But I would be happy in a pet shop too. But I am thinking of the RSPCA or how ever it's spelt

I found out last night the hard way that a nest feather or unbroken cap is classed as a broken meaning capped when the cere starts changing even if they are 6 weeks old and adult bright feathers start coming through first mainly around their cheek patches etc. They tell me their only a very small window when it comes to showing unbroken caps or nest feathers.
  11. Hey everyone I have enrolled in a course at Tafe doing Certificate 11 in Animal studies which could lead to vet nurse. I am really excited about it as I am going to specialize in birds. I have to do 120 hours work placement which is great because that is experience I start Feb 2010 and that feels like forever away.
  12. She looks like opaline dom pied to me and split for blue but I am no expert on pieds
  13. Thanks Kaz but so do you
  14. I have 8 birds selected: 2 greens 1 blue 1 grey green 1 opaline 1 DF Spangle 1 dom pied 1 violet Here are some of them, I was unlucky with the df spangle as 3 are only 8 weeks old but their ceres are changing and a cinnamon violet opaline was plucked on the back of her neck the night before the selection so she misses out too. Violet, I hope to do well with him if his tail stays put Cobalt opaline Dom Pied Green DF Spangle These 3 are better and not a suffused and only 8 weeks old but are capping in the way their cere is changing
  15. Very nice Kaz and she has lovely bull eye spots.

It five years here in Victoria for beginners I have 25 points, just need five more maybe this weekend. I am in my 4th year.
  17. If you get anymore little ones die at 1 to 2 days old it could be yellow belly, we had the problem here, quite a few of our club members have had it this year. Treatment is a broad spectrum antibiotic, treating all birds.

To swap partners you should seperate them for at least a week for example put them in out in the aviary to vitalise them and then try again. I have hens in one avairy and cocks in the other.

I bought some and I find in water it goes into a big clump and you then have to squash it up so now I just put it in their wet food much easier and I use less, I bought the one that is about $36.00 for 900 gr container and to put it in water it is 4grm to 400ml of water but in wet food it is 4grm to 4 cups of food much better. I couldn't afford to buy the other one that is more constrate I think that one is only 1gram but I think for 900grams it is around $80.00 to $90.00.
  25. I give mine peas, corn, carrot and leaves, beetroot, celery, broccoli and leaves, silver beet and parsley to name a few and apple. Orange and lemon are offered to fight off mega bacteria. Sunflower and safflower in the winter months
