Some Of My Best Birds
forgot them, Tomorrow CW maybe. There are plenty Df spangles, let me see 3 or 4 cocks and 3 hens. I plan on taking a photo and posting of the whole 25 birds I am getting ready to show, they may not all make it to the show bench, but if they are ready they will have a chance. :fear

In 48 years I've never had a problem with overweight birds, wish I could say the same about myself Gee CW your showing your age here.. But seriously I wish I could say that.. I made my birds very fat this year mainly teh breeding one, think over fed them. They went in the breeding cage and came out to heavy to fly I think my birds are like me (just have look at food and on goes the kilos :fear

I haven't really notice the difference in the size of the seed but you are probably right CW, I do believe there is not the nuitrient value in the seed as there was before the drought. Last year I got a couple of bags of bad seed, it looked good and smelled fine but the birds were always hungry. In the breeding cages the babies were screaming for food. The adult birds empty the jars out straight away like they were looking for something. So I rushed to Howard Martin and bought seed there and then th e birds were content. So I do believe you need good seed to have happy healthy birds. CW are you going to do your usual wet feed mix all year around now. You would have to take it easy on the oats, safflower and sunflower this time of the year.... wouldn't you? Splat

Kaz you better get some of the silver stuff off your sister and send it to me my poor hen is doing badly, looked good a couple of days ago but getting inflamed again., Clearwing had a look had her and he said just a bad eye infection bad gee not getting anywhere, The vet to give her doxy because it is a broadspetrum antibiotic and stop the the cream because there are 2 antibiotics fighting with each other , so I did what he said but I thoink she is looking worse. I am salt bathing the eye 3 times aday but today is too hot and only twice today. How much is that silver stuff Kaz :emoticon112:

Another Violet!
Yes I agree with clearwing, she looks cinnamon opaline violet to me and for DF or single would be very hard to tell, I am breeding violets here and I can't tell who is single or Df violet, I can mainly tell when they breed. Maybe a more experience breeder would know :grouphug:

Kaz I had someone come here yesterday (CW) and I closed my eyes and said go for it , didn't even care if they were pedigrees I was working on as I haven't the room for a lot of birds and I am aiming on keeping the best of the best. And gee did CW go for it, he was shucking them left right and centre into my cull cage, no just joking CW but quite a few went in there.

So true Heathrow. That's my plan this year and I did do that last year with some great results, so will focus more on them this year too.
-
Paligomy
Yes Clearwing I thinking seriously of doing the same thing. As you know my spangle line is the strongest so I am focusing on them this year.

Renee have you got a clearer photo, but my hen looked much worse her eye swelled up so bad and had a big lump towards the the eye and red it was crimson red, but swashing in warm boiuled salted water 3 times a day and looking much better no rednes anymore and the swelling has gone down heaps. still not great yet though, I have started her on a broadspectrum antibotic advised by the avian vet. But I believe it's the salt water that is doing the job, killing all those rotten little germs. Actually it is the hen below her left eye
