  1. Being very vocal is a good sign. When the birds feel threatened, they go quiet, so his willingness to sit there and chatter away is a good thing.
  2. Based on the pics, I say you have it about right.
  3. Sounds like he is very lucky to have found you. I am not sure why you are trying to take a bird whose main diet is seed and put him onto a pellet diet. I think leave the seed and introduce some fresh fruits and veges a couple of times a weeek. Other than that, Sol sounds like a lucky little guy.
  4. natural curiosity will get the better of him as he explores. I do not think you have to worry too much
  5. Such a shame as this is the pair I was really looking forward to seeing the youngsters from.
  6. It is always nice when Henry calls -
  7. Lovely gifts
  8. They look good Kaz. Request - any chance you can take some pics of the plucked young one as she moults out - particularly of the back of her head/ I will be very interested if those blue feathers that came through in her cap actually disappear as she/he moults out or if they stay.
  9. I never really liked greywing greens, but now I realise it was not the variety, it was the dilution effect. I love the yellow wings with the greywing patterns, on a bird that is so vibrant.
  10. If you are colony breeding, and I will state outright that I am not a fan, then there should be no bird in the aviary younger than 12 months old. I am assuming you have twice as many nestboxes as there are pairs, that all nestboxes are located at the one height, and so forth????
  11. Well done Squeak_Crumble!!! That has to be one of the cutest photos I have seen in a while. Strong contender for Budgie of the Year!!!!!!!!!
  12. Mine are the 4 for $125 ones. The bigger ones. I have found them to be fantastic as holding cages, but the next ones I get might be smaller.
  13. Please do not upload budgie **** - this is an all age forum -
  14. Shoulder definition - sorry Matt - typo okay, no Dilute in the Welchman world, got it -
  15. Good site rachelm. I will be bookmarking that for future use. Now that I examine that site, I am sure that I bought my breeding cages from JJ Aviaries
  16. I only know the size in metres, so is 3.0m in length x 2.18depth x 2.06 metres tall. It fits in the space I have available, so that is what is important. I am okay with the two doors, not an issue. Point Greg in the right direction and set him loose I say!!! Those cages are not as wide as mine. Mine have the 4 doors down the bottom as well as the two big doors, and can be divided into 2 seperate cages.I might buy some more like yours, but they seem pricey there. I am sure mine were a lot cheaper than that, but i did buy them 2 years ago.
  17. I did not really think about adding it to the existing avairy, but that is definitely a possibility. Hmmm, now you have me thinking - I suppose I could sell it. That is an option. At the moment I have 9 brreding cages, 3 stands of 3. I will be adding more. I think the ones I have at the moment are big for breeding cages, i will get the measurements when i go home, but I think i will buy the next size down in the future. I am also considering whether to leave the stands as they are, or build a more secure Melamine set-up. Maybe both, not doing the setup until January.
  18. I first started thsi thread on January 2, 2009 and the breeding aviary was a good idea - at the time. That time is over, and it is time for a new shed. This is what I have purchased It has a panel at the front to let extra light in, as well as a skylight on one side. It means I need to extend the slab by about 70 cm, but that should be easy. I will also attempt to fix the slight slop on the cement slab. Ultimately it means that I will not waste space on the slab, like is currently happening. So what will happen with the old aviary? Probably be dismantled and disposed of. Not in the best shape. I did rustkill it and paint the majority of the outside - ran out of pain in the back corner. I suppose i will simply take it to the tip, in parts.
  19. Is the one a YF dilute Matt? I never really understood the should definition thing before but when i look at your birds Matt it all makes sense. Thanks for sharing the pics with us.
  20. Some great looking little ones there. My favourite is this one
  21. Whereabouts in Sydney are you? There are some good breeders you can get a bird from. If you want to get a pet size bird, Ace Colony Aviaries on the Great Western Highway at Wentworthville has some good pet types that are healthy. Wide range to choose from. I know when I needed pet types for someone, I went there. What is your cage like? Dimensions? Do you have any pics of your cage set up?
  22. I have not seen you on here for a while AV. Remind who blue is again? I think a vet is the best idea.
  23. The head on that first one is amazing
  24. Eldest baby has left the nest These babies look great. The mask is awesome.
