  1. Any distinguishing features? Are they very pale? I once lost 5 chicks in the nest, all were healthy and then all died about 5-8 days old. Turns out it was a mouse problem.
  2. Sounds like a traumatic experience - for all involved. I do hope the recovery is a swift one.
  3. Photobucket is playing up, so I cannot upload pics at the moment, but egg count is as follows: Pair 1 - 2 eggs Pair 2 - 5 eggs of their own and 1 foster Pair 3 - 3 eggs pair 4 - 1 egg (and 1 that has been fostered out) - the two small eggs you see are fakes that encourage her to not eat the other egg As soon as photobucket is operational, then i will upload :sadsorry:
  4. I suppose she cannot sell all her birds cheap to us, she has to try to make some money off some. You can always bid!!!!!!!!
  5. The Catalogue is now available for the upcoming BRASEA Auction at Revesby in NSW. You can CLICK HERE to view the catalogue. See you all there!!!
  6. Theft and destruction of good birds is something that is becoming more prevalent. Click on the link below to see another example Click Here
  7. I agree with Kaz, if you have any concerns, then you should do whatever you can to ensure that the bird is as well as could be.
  8. Update of the breeding pairs Pair 1- 1 egg laid in the nestbox Pair 2- 5 eggs, one which is a foster Pair 3 have 1 egg Pair 4- 1 new egg laid and hen looks happy to incubate and not eat the egg. Extra calcium in the water will hopefully stop the hen thinking she needs to eat the egg for calcium
  9. I have already transferred one egg and now the fake eggs are in there we will see how she goes.
  10. I felt like that after some really big dinners -
  11. Thanks and it is a shame as she is quite possibly my best hen
  12. Update: Pair 1 have their first egg but unfortunately it was layed off the perch and it cracked. I did not realise at first and put it in the nestbox but the hen threw it out. I put a fake egg in the nestbox to try to give her the hint of where she should lay the nest egg. Pair 2 have four eggs of their own and a foster egg. She appears to be incubating the eggs well. Pair 3 have their first egg layed in the nestbox Pair 4 - one of them ate their first egg so I removed the second egg. I have placed 2 fake eggs in the nestbox and the hen has decided to "incubate" these eggs. With any luck she will lay a few more and not eat them. I will see how she goes.
  13. Legacy - that is what it is about. We are all going to leave this mortal sphere one day, but what will we leave behind? How will others think of us when we are gone? Gone but never forgotten, R.I.P. Ommie
  14. I also do not think that this is a thread hijack. Both birds have the same issues, so what we say for one bird actually applies to the other as well. Pleased that both birds are on the mend (since I originally named Thundra I feel a special closeness to her)
  15. judging by that last picture, i would say male out of breeding condition
  16. Pair 1 - no eggs Pair 2 - 3 eggs layed, 4 in the box Pair 3 - no eggs yet Pair 4 - they ate their last egg, so I have moved the egg to the Pair 2. I have put a fake egg in the nestbox to encourage the hen to continue laying. I am also going to put some millet in the nestbox. Hopefully by attempting to eat the plastic egg and being unable to, plus the millet to chew on, it will mean that the hen will stop trying to eat the eggs Also pleasing as my new rings arrived. This is the first year I have rings coded for me. DMC. I cannot wait to ring my first bird with my own rings.
  17. It is now 8:48am for you Kaz. What is the verdict? :nest:
  18. Dave_McMinn replied to Adi's topic in New to BBC
    Welcome
  19. Terrible photo, but using my Nostradamus like ability to see the future, I say female - :nest:
  20. A water container on the floor is fine. You can put it there whenever you are ready. It is more about the temperature rather than when they are ready. Ensure it is hot enough for them to dry off and not get a chill
  21. Update Pair 1 - expecting the first egg tomorrow. Definitely an egg bum there Pair 2 - 2 eggs layed so far Pair 3 - feeding and preening should lead to eggs soon Pair 4 - at least one egg has been layed but it seems to have been eaten. I am lookign to see if another egg is layed here and I will put it under another hen.
  22. This is normal. You cannot expect him to sit still
  23. This is really good news for both of you
  24. I do not see that this is a sensible thread which shows mature discussion. I am closing this topic.
  25. I say hen
