  2. Yoko will always remind me of Yoko Ono, the Beatles own Tsunami. I am glad you like that name - I am afraid that Yoko will never be a beloved name in the House of Dave - LOL!!!
  3. It is not a "pied" spot if it is on a spangle. As I understand, and anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong here, but when the Spangle mutation was first bing developed, a large number of pieds were used. The spot seemed to suffer some sort of transference, and many spangles now have a spot on the back of their heads, although they are not dominant pieds, nor are they split recessive.
  4. I am looking forward to seeing it all up, as I am sure you are looking forward to it.
  5. I have a bird that has come back like this from my sister's aviary. The bird has damaged his wing somehow and now he is unable to fly properly. He will live out his days in the aviary where he can climb around.
  6. glad to hear that she has recovered
  7. okay, so we are think an egg based term that is gentle, nibbles and soppy. I am thinking Souffle as it is delicate, can be soppy if not done right, and when done well, you cannot help having a nibble -
  8. grat pics, but the twins ones are not my cup of tea Have you given Ommie's daughter a name?
  9. Sometimes it is the bitsa's we love the most -
  10. I have adult budgies that do that in the aviary. Scared the life out of me the first time I saw it, I thought something was wrong, but I have multiple birds that do it, mainly hens, but a few cocks as well
  11. I always worry when an avian vet offers advice and we think we can solve it by doing something very different. I suppose it comes down to choice. I would follow the vet's advice
  12. You also need to be able to block it off for winter Block off the whirley bird? Why? It allows fresh air in, but does not provide a draught
  13. Some great looking birds there. Makes me think we are paying overs here at some auctions
  14. Egg update: Pair 1 - 4 eggs Pair 2 - 6 eggs Pair 3 - 6 eggs Pair 4 - 3 eggs All other nestboxes have been visited and prepared More pairs to go down this week hopefully
  15. Are you allowed to take photo's? It might be good to know what the birds look like and what they go for at an auction. I think it might make an excellent topic for someone who has never been to an auction.
  16. Great pics of the little ones Kaz. particularly fond of this one....
  17. I will become a vegan before I go down that path
  18. Daily Update Pair 1 - 4 eggs Pair 2- 6 eggs Pair 3 - 4 eggs Pair 4 - 3 eggs - going so well I removed the fake eggs All the other pairs have begun checking out nestboxes. I am very pleased as they have begun cleaning out nestboxes in preparation
  19. Thanks Kaz...just curious...will one male 'cosy up' with BOTh females at one time? Did you mean will one FEMALE cosy up with both MALES at one time? It is possible, but the males will fight over her.
  20. Me too!!!! Update: Pair 1 - 3 eggs Pair 2- 6 eggs (including 1 foster) Pair 3 - 4 eggs Pair 4 - 2 eggs All other pairs still bonding, however Pair 5 has checked out the nestbox (they had previously bonded in the aviary)
  21. ..... and the legacy continues
  22. I hope so. We will see. When I get my new cages, I will be able to up to another 9 pair down. I have a few good birds that I am really looking forward to seeing the outcome of.
  23. I see a yellow faced bird going through a moult and getting darker, but that is all normal. Am I meant to be seeing something different?
  24. I have since discovered that the problem was my internet connection, not Photobucket, so apologies to the good people at Photobucket. Anyway, enough with that. Here we go. The pics are a day old, so the egg count might be different to the number of eggs in the pics. Pair 1 - 3 eggs Pair 2 - 5 eggs of their own and 1 foster Pair 3 - 4 eggs pair 4 - 2 eggs (and 1 that has been fostered out) - the two small eggs you see are fakes that encourage her to not eat the other eggs I also put some other pairs down. Pair 5 - I paired two Gregoriou birds together. His birds are based on Scoble bloodlines and this was at his suggestion to maintain the bloodlines. Opaline Cobalt Cock with a Green Normal Hen Pair 6 - A Gregoriou hen to a son of Dumber(RIP). This hen was tried previously and she ate her eggs. She paired up with this cock in the aviary and I thought that they might have more luck if paired together. Violet Opaline Spangle Cock with a Cinnamon Winged GreyGreen Hen Pair 6 - A stunning Gregoriou Green Normal Cock to a dark marked Green Spangle Hen (could only find a yng picture - update later) Pair 7 - Dumb to an Lovely Dommie Pied with the lot (almost) Opaline Sky Spangle Cock with an Opaline Green Spangle Domminant Pied Hen
