Some Friendly Breeding Advice Wanted :)
I have had a situation where the hen did not lay for a while, then she came back to laying. She stopped due to the hot weather, and by the time she satarted again, the damage was done. Only 1 good egg form the first 4 layed, and the two eggs layed later were small sickly offspring that did not last long. I will never let my birds breed in hot conditions again - EVER!!!!!!!!!! The heat may be affecting your hen.

My Aviary....start To Finish
what, no happy snaps of the new digs? Will all 2354 birds you have fit or do you need to send me the good one for safe keeping?

Green Tail?
The number is not that important, the PH1 is the important bit. You need to try to find out who PH1 is. Do you know a ring register in your state? You are not in a club are you?

Green Tail?
Does she have a leg ring? When you went back to get her, did you get the code off the other leg ring of the TCB cock? Did you forget to look?

Things To Think About
That is a very general question you asked. It is kind of like asking, what should I do with my life? Let's refine the question(s). Why not start by telling us what you want to do, space you have available, finances available, perhaps the "dream" setup, and maybe a photo of the spot where it will go. We can worry about accessories after we go bit by bit. There are also some excellent examples on here of people who have built aviaries form the ground up. Look for them using the search function. sorry for not being descriptive enough but I don't think " It is kind of like asking, what should I do with my life" was very necassery. Anyways, I was thinking of joining my existing aviary with my garden shed, halve my garden shed one for a breeding area and the other for flight, Then I would cut one end off my garden shed and make that part part of the flight as well. My existing aviary will be for young budgies. That is my idea so far. I'm not quiet sure of the finances because I'm still figuring out what I'm going to do. I will also send in some photos as soon as I figure out how to do that lol. I think my line was perfect as it explained the point I was making perfectly. It is not an insulting line, but it was designed to make you think about what you needed. This is even more clearly demonstrated with the fact that you went into greater detail about what you currently had. No one knew you had an existing aviary, or a garden shed. Matt's idea is also fantastic. Join a club and learn a lot. We all started where you are now, so build on this. You will get there.

How Do Your Budgies Sleep?
i have some budgies that seem to sleep on the wire, but most sleep on the perches. Nothing but personal choice involved.

Pet Shops/breeders In Sydney?
Davey? No, no one here by that name. Dave is fine. Yes, there is still a pet barn in Northmead - Unit 5C 6 Boundary Road Northmead. If you have the time, go a little further and go to Kellyville Pets. That is what a pet shop should be. I get my bird supplies from Elenbee Bird Supplies, 13/38 Powers Rd, Seven Hills NSW 2147 Barry and Terese are great there.

If You Could........would You ?
If you do nto have time to concrete, then buy big pavers from bunnings to put down, 600mm x 600mm. They have a 45 degrees sloping edge and they slip into each other, with every second one upside down. I used to use them. Works well for a while.

Green Tail?
So you went to the pet shop and found out what? Did you ask the people at the pet shop any info?

Some Friendly Breeding Advice Wanted :)
it is hard, especially for the first time breeder, but you do need to take a step back and let her lay some eggs and incubate in piece. Checking chicks noona nd night is essential, but do not spook the hen into not laying and incubating.

Green Tail?
Are they from the same breeder? I noticed the leg ring on the TCB. Did you get the code? That will help you find the breeder

My Improved Flight / Breeding Area B)
That pop out is a great idea. I think I might look at constructing something like that myself, but I think the window needs to be bigger

My New Bird
You can tell he is young and still devevloping. Hasn't "filled out" yet, but he looks very promising. Nice long mask and big spot(s).

Mauve, Cobalt, Violet?
I would say her is a cobalt with the violet factor, so we tend to call them visual violet's or just a violet. Nice strong vibrant colour.

My All Budgies Moulting
it will vary depending on where you live, temperature, etc. If all your birds are moulting at once, then I say fine.

Latest Youngsters

Latest Youngsters

Can't We Breed Female Budgie Like This
They should not breed younger than 12 months old or older than 4 years of age. Is that what you are trying to say? I am not sure!

Sex & Colour/variety?
- New To The Forum
Hi there and welcomg to the forum. Everyone loves pics so feel free to share.- Spangle?
I think that Jim Hutton was simplifying the visual aspect of spangling to make it easier for "beginners", as you have suggested. When writing a book, you need to cater for all levels, so if you write in too much detail or utilise too much scientific jargon, you will alienate soem people. Thus why I think he wrote it as he did. This of course is my point of view, and the only way to know the truth is to ask Jim Hutton. Kaz, have you interviewed him yet? - New To The Forum
