Fallow Sellout
Cool. I look forward to seeing them. Fallows are not my thing but if you are into fallows, and Matt's birds are like others of his I have seen, you will not want to miss these.

Fallow Sellout
I look forward to going to the auction to see what you are selling Matt. How do your fallows rate when compared to other varieties you have?

Mid 2011 Breeding Journal
I found a couple of hours yesterday to put some pairs down. I tried to pair experienced breeders to non-experienced breeders, as well as think of the outcomes and the like. I am only a novice so for me it is about breeding nice birds first, colour second. So this is what I have: Pair 1 - Sky Blue/Ino/Opaline Cock (experienced) to a GreyGreen Opaline Hen (novice) Pair 2 - Green/Blue/Cinnamon/Opaline Cock (experienced)to an Albino Hen (novice) Pair 3 - Cobalt Opaline Spangle Cock to a Grey/Blue Dominant Pied Hen Pair 4 - Sky Opaline Spangle Cock (experienced) to a Light Green Spangle Hen oops - picture to come Pair 5 - Lutino Cock to an Albino Hen Pair 6 - Opaline Grey Cock to a Sky Opaline Spangle Hen (experienced) oops - picture to come Pair 7 - Grey Cock (experienced) to a Grey Opaline Spangle Hen Pair 8 - Cobalt Cinnamon Cock to a Sky Cinnamon Hen Pair 9 - Yellow Face Opaline Cock (novice) to Light Green Spangle Hen (experienced) Pair 10 - GreyGreen Cinnamon Cock to a Double Factor Yellow Spangle Hen (experienced) Pair 11 - Green Cock to a GreyGreen Hen Pair 12 - Green Cock (experienced) to a Grey/Blue Opaline Dominant Pied Hen Time is an issue with me right at the moment, so I will post infrequently with this thread, but I will do my best.

New Bubs
Thanks for the pics. I love spangles too. I love the reverse wing patterns, especially on blue birds. Yes, DF Spangle would be the white bird. Thanks for the uploading of pics. I know it can be tough and time consuming to get pics however I am sure everyone loves seeing them. We all got into budgie in the first place as we loved the look of budgies. Even those more experienced show breeders still love the pics.

Blueberry!
Very good. Also pleased to see you are quarantining him away from your other bird.

How Did I Get Cobalt And Not Sky Blue?
As has been stated, to get a recessive pied, both birds need to be split recessive pied. Look at your cock bird and see if he has a patch on the back of his head. this is a sign of being split recessive. Also as stated your albino hen could carry two dark factor genes, therefore her offspring would get one dark factor, so they would be cobalt. It would be impossible to get sky blue's from a hen with 2 dark factor genes

Ace Colony Aviaries
I went there the other day and it was shut. I am not sure what is going on.

Aviary Tips
Facing the rising sun is preferable, not because of cold night air, but rather they warm up with the sun. If possible this is good. It is not possible with me, they get afternoon sun, and they love it.

Trying Breeding Again
There is little point quarantining now as if they had any illness they it would have been shared by now. For future reference you should read some topics on here about quarantining.
-
New Budgie Suddenly Aggressive
I have never had an inside budgie however I have heard of this biting stage coinciding with what people attribute to the "teenager" stage of their life.
-
Trying Breeding Again
Are you quarantining the new birds? They are not mixed together are they? Did you put the cocks with the "bad" hens? How old are the birds? They should be at least 12 months old before they breed. What are you planning for your breeding set up? any photos of this so we can offer some advice?

Hey Again

First Egg And New Breeder
Eggs should be layed every 2 days. Don't keep checking though, it will freak the hen out. check once in the morning and once at night, and that is it.

New Bubs
Any chance of getting some pics of those spangles now they are in the aviary. I have found that my spangles take a year to fill out so size is not really the biggest concern I have with them.

Avalon House -The Fox Stud-Gb8-Show Birds
I am the same GB. I a itching to put some pairs down, as this will be the first time I have really had my new breeding shed in full swing with cages all set up and ready to go. The only thing that is stopping me is the weather. Bring on some heat....please!!!!

What Is That?
well done on your actions though. Once you have experienced something for the first time, it makes you better prepared the second time. Your actions in taking your bird to the vet are to be congratulated. Well done.

Show Budgies And Breeding Cabinets.
You have to give people time to reply. We do not sit on here all day so give people a chance. I am from sydney so no help there. Maybe you could look at any upcoming auctions in your area.

Misbehaving Hen
If you do not have a concave, be creative. Get the lip off a margarine container and use that. The point of the concave is to give the hen somewhere to lay but not have the eggs roll around on a flat surface. If you put the lid of the margarine container top up in the corner, sprinkle some shaving over it, not too many, she might lay in there. If you do not have shavings, get some paper and cut it up into little pieces. This should suffice.

Singles Thread
Thanks GB - some nice words there. As for me, I think that I am getting there. I have now lost 10.4kg's in 7 weeks, so I am headed in the right direction. I am wearing clothes that I grew out of, horizontally, not vertically. I might need to make some new holes on the belt soon, but most of all I am feeling better about myself. I am looking at cooking a dinner for my sister, her hubby, and two friends. 3 of us go to Weight watchers together, and I bought a new WW cookbook the other day. I live on my own, so cooking big meals is something I like to do, but never do, so they jokingly suggested I cook for them one night (I did 3 years Food Tech at uni and I am trained to teach food tech) and I said I would. Tomorrow I am going to try a few recipes in the morning and take them out to my sister's for her and her family to have for dinner. They do not know, so it is a nice surprise for them. I took my two oldest nephews to the premiere of Harry Potter today. Loved it. Emotional movie, the most heart wrenching Harry Potter of them all. And that was all after vacuuming this morning, leaving my house looking awesome. You are so right GB - I am awesome - lol!!!

Dead Budgies
I live in Sydney and I have about 70 or so budgies. I am not sure that we have had any extreme weather. We have had a lot of cold periods, colder than the last couple of years, but it has been the direst start to July for many years, so rain is not an issue. I lost one bird today, but saved another. The cold is affecting some but there is nothing major going on in terms of Sydney weather that would account for this. Maybe there was some form of infection in your aviary, mouse droppings or such?
