  1. I agree, more info needed here Kaz. can I get these from the pet store?
  2. I suggested that to the vet, and he pulled some feathers out and looked at the ends of them, and that is how he reached his diagnosis. If he had feather quill mites than AIL should be effective shouldn't it?
  3. I am sorry GB, but I did not see Renee's post like you did. I thought she asked some honest questions, and her post actually made me think about things myself.
  4. i know about 20 people with iphones and most are happy with them. Some people are very anti-apple so you have to take that into consideration. I am an IT teacher for a living, I have always owned PC's, never Apple computers, so I have if anything, the anti-apple bias others have, yet I love my iphone. In every group of people you will find varying opinions. Ultimately, it is your call. Go for what you like.
  5. Today's Update Pair 1 - Caesar and GreyGreen Hen - preening but still no eggs yet Pair 2 - Twitch and Albino Hen - 2 eggs now Pair 3 - Son of Dumber (RIP) and daughter of Twitch - 3 big eggs Pair 4 - Dumb and Light Green Spangle Hen - they have their first egg Pair 5 - Lutino Cock to Albino Hen - preening but no egg yet Pair 6 - Opaline Grey to a Sky Opaline Spangle Hen - no preening yet so this will be the last pair to have eggs I think Pair 7 - Grey Cock to an Opaline Grey Spangle Hen - 3 eggs Pair 8 - Cobalt Cinnamon Cock to a Sky Cinnamon Hen - 3 eggs Pair 9 - YF Opaline Sky Cock to a Light Green Spangle Hen - 3 eggs Pair 10 - GreyGreen Cinnamon Cock to a Double Factor Yellow Spangle Hen - preening but still no egg yet Pair 11 - Green Cock to a GreyGreen Hen - 4 smallish eggs Pair 12 - Green Cock to a Grey/Blue Opaline Dominant Pied Hen - confirmed 1 egg Pair 13 - Grey Cock to a GreyGreen Cinnamon Opaline Hen - first egg layed Pair 14 - Seperated - explanation below. For Pair 14 I took Quiche to my avian vet as there was a concern about some feathers. Anyway, long and the short of it is that it looks like there is some French Moult there, but also something else. The vet is not sure what it is. He took some feathers and he was going to send them for samples. He did not know if it was environmental, genetic, stress related or what. His advice was put him down with a average hen in a seperate environment and see what is produced. DO NOT put him down in the same location as the other birds or with a good hen. Also i should watch the birds he travelled with to see if there are any signs, to see if they are carriers and the stress of travel induced this or if it was them. The vet will keep the feathers he removed refridgerated and they can be sent for studying later to see if it is simply french moult, or the polyoma virus or something else. So this is the plan Pair 14 will be this Violet Opaline Cock to an Albino hen - they will go down tomorrow and we will go from there. Pair 15 will be breeding in the garage - where I have previously bred birds before, in there own environment. Quiche is in in excellent condition apart from his feathers. Quiche - greygreen opaline spangle cock will be paired to an experienced hen who is a White DF Spangle, who once was paired to Dumber (RIP) and upon his death still proceeded to produce 5 fertile eggs, raising 3 of the offsrping solo on her own (2 were fostered). She masks opaline and cobalt. So there you have it. Quiche might be fine in 6 months, a proud father, or he might be passing on a few issues. We will find out. Really disappointing. It happens sometimes with great birds, they do not travel well. Quiche was great in Perth but he has never really been excellent here when I look back on it. Shame really, breaks my heart. Putting him down is so hard to imagine so I am hoping for the best. Very sad. Sorry Kaz. I feel I am letting you down here. So 21 eggs but the Quiche news takes the shine off things that even getting my rings in the mail cannot fix.
  6. I had a reply typed where I had conceded that I had a boy look, but I just want to make sure that it is an Iris ring before I concede. The photo is a little out of focus at the eye and the eye looks like it is turned in the eye socket which may give the appearance of an iris ring. The colour in the eye looks too far toward the edge of the eye to be an iris ring. Then again it could just be an iris ring in which case I will post a photo of myself with a dunce hat on. In Fordmob's defence, I also thought that to me, the iris ring in that photo looked more like a thick eye lid. Maybe I will be wearing a dunce hat, too. Hats for everybody -
  7. I have an iPhone 4 and I love it. I would be lost without it. It is a 3GS. I know there were some antenna issues with the iphone 4 but I am anxiously awaiting iPhone 5 when I will upgrade.
  8. Definitely GreyGreen Opaline Spangle The male equivalent below
  9. I came back from Kaz's place in Perth where from a number of breeder's over there I purchased a few birds. From a great man name Hans I purchased a number of birds, but the three that I named Dumb and Dumber, and Jester were personal favourites. All were named for their inability to perch in showcages when I want to take a simple picture. I name birds on personality usually, so Dumb, Dumber, Jester, Humphrey, Twitch and a few others are all named by their personality. I am not sure stupidity is a dominant gene, so we will see how it plays out - LOL!!!
  10. Today's Update Pair 1 - Caesar and GreyGreen Hen - preening but still no eggs yet Pair 2 - Twitch and Albino Hen - 2 eggs now Pair 3 - Son of Dumber (RIP) and daughter of Twitch - 3 eggs Pair 4 - Dumb and Light Green Spangle Hen - preening but still no eggs yet Pair 5 - Lutino Cock to Albino Hen - preening but no egg yet Pair 6 - Opaline Grey to a Sky Opaline Spangle Hen - no preening yet so this will be the last pair to have eggs I think Pair 7 - Grey Cock to an Opaline Grey Spangle Hen - 3 eggs Pair 8 - Cobalt Cinnamon Cock to a Sky Cinnamon Hen - 3 eggs Pair 9 - YF Opaline Sky Cock to a Light Green Spangle Hen - 2 eggs Pair 10 - GreyGreen Cinnamon Cock to a Double Factor Yellow Spangle Hen - preening but still no egg yet Pair 11 - Green Cock to a GreyGreen Hen - 3 eggs Pair 12 - Green Cock to a Grey/Blue Opaline Dominant Pied Hen - confirmed 1 egg Pair 13 - Grey Cock to a GreyGreen Cinnamon Opaline Hen - first egg layed Pair 14 - Quiche (GreyGreen Opaline Spangle Cock) to an Albino Hen - just introduced people - give them time...please!!!! So far 18 eggs layed, more than last breeding mainly due to time of year, but no idea on fertility yet - too early to candle and I do not like to candle to disturb the hen anyway.
  11. Kaz takes much better pics than I do. I only grabbed some quick snaps as i transferred him from the aviary to the breeding room, so he is sitting in a carry cage, not perching. Anyway, here are the snaps. As for the breeding update Pair 1 - Caesar and GreyGreen Hen - preening but still no eggs yet Pair 2 - Twitch and Albino Hen - 2 eggs now Pair 3 - Son of Dumber (RIP) and daughter of Twitch - 2 eggs Pair 4 - Dumb and Light Green Spangle Hen - preening but still no eggs yet Pair 5 - Lutino Cock to Albino Hen - preening but no egg yet Pair 6 - Opaline Grey to a Sky Opaline Spangle Hen - no preening yet so this will be the last pair to have eggs I think Pair 7 - Grey Cock to an Opaline Grey Spangle Hen - 2 eggs Pair 8 - Cobalt Cinnamon Cock to a Sky Cinnamon Hen - 2 eggs Pair 9 - YF Opaline Sky Cock to a Light Green Spangle Hen - 2 eggs Pair 10 - GreyGreen Cinnamon Cock to a Double Factor Yellow Spangle Hen - preening but still no egg yet Pair 11 - Green Cock to a GreyGreen Hen - 3 eggs Pair 12 - Green Cock to a Grey/Blue Opaline Dominant Pied Hen - stubborn hen sitting in the nestbox on what I am guessing is her first egg Pair 13 - Grey Cock to a GreyGreen Cinnamon Opaline Hen - still looks like an egg any minute - but I may be wrong. so there you have it. Quiche photos and an update.
  12. It has been a while since I took photos of birds in the aviary. On the "to do" list.
  13. LOL - there GB, some pics taken by Kaz. They will have to hold you over until I can get some.
  14. I will take some pics tomorrow if I get home in time - meetings after work are killing me.
  15. Egg update - bold are the changes from yesterday Pair 1 - Caesar and GreyGreen Hen - preening but no eggs yet Pair 2 - Twitch and Albino Hen - one new egg. very pleasing to see. Pair 3 - Son of Dumber (RIP) and daughter of Twitch - 2 eggs Pair 4 - Dumb and Light Green Spangle Hen - preening but no eggs yet Pair 5 - Lutino Cock to Albino Hen - preening but no egg yet Pair 6 - Opaline Grey to a Sky Opaline Spangle Hen - no preening yet so this will be the last pair to have eggs I think Pair 7 - Grey Cock to an Opaline Grey Spangle Hen - 1 egg Pair 8 - Cobalt Cinnamon Cock to a Sky Cinnamon Hen - 1 egg Pair 9 - YF Opaline Sky Cock to a Light Green Spangle Hen - 2 eggs Pair 10 - GreyGreen Cinnamon Cock to a Double Factor Yellow Spangle Hen - preening but no egg yet Pair 11 - Green Cock to a GreyGreen Hen - 2 eggs Pair 12 - Green Cock to a Grey/Blue Opaline Dominant Pied Hen - preening but no eggs yet Pair 13 - Grey Cock to a GreyGreen Cinnamon Opaline Hen - no eggs yet but she may well lay one overnight - big eggy bum I put a good albino hen in a cage as i wanted to use her but she needed a drop of ivermectin before she was ready. Anyway, she is an experienced hen and layed an egg to demonstrate she was ready. I need a cock to put with her, and I was thinking who should go in there, then it hit me. QUICHE!!! Kaz, Quiche, the son of Omelette is going down to breed with a good hen who has demonstrated good fertility and an eagerness in the past. I will put him there tomorrow and I will attach the nestbox in a few days. Very exciting.
  16. New egg update!!! I originally thought that 14 days from mating to egg, but not anymore. New hens are laying eggs now and it is not possible coincidence could come into play, so I think 8 days is now the minimum for egg laying. okay, here we go. Pair 1 - Caesar and GreyGreen Hen - preening but no eggs yet Pair 2 - Twitch and Albino Hen - just starting preening in the last few days so this will be the second last pair to have eggs I think Pair 3 - Son of Dumber (RIP) and daughter of Twitch - 1 egg Pair 4 - Dumb and Light Green Spangle Hen - preening but no eggs yet Pair 5 - Lutino Cock to Albino Hen - preening but no egg yet Pair 6 - Opaline Grey to a Sky Opaline Spangle Hen - no preening yet so this will be the last pair to have eggs I think Pair 7 - Grey Cock to an Opaline Grey Spangle Hen - 1 egg Pair 8 - Cobalt Cinnamon Cock to a Sky Cinnamon Hen - 1 egg Pair 9 - YF Opaline Sky Cock to a Light Green Spangle Hen - 1 egg Pair 10 - GreyGreen Cinnamon Cock to a Double Factor Yellow Spangle Hen - preening but no egg yet Pair 11 - Green Cock to a GreyGreen Hen - 2 eggs Pair 12 - Green Cock to a Grey/Blue Opaline Dominant Pied Hen - preening but no eggs yet Pair 13 - Grey Cock to a GreyGreen Cinnamon Opaline Hen - no eggs yet but she may well lay one overnight - big eggy bum So there you have it. All is progressing nicely. Let's hope that fertility is good. The weather has been good so hope all keeps going well.
  17. This is the frustrating side of breeding show budgies I am afraid. Sorry to read about your struggles but these things happen far too often I must say.
  18. I hope you are right splat. I am not concerned who the Dad's are really. It will just be nice to get chicks again.
  19. Eggs update - three eggs have been layed by three different hens, so that is a good start. Only problem is that it has only been 8 days. Now I am pretty sure that after mating it takes 14 days for an egg to be layed. This must mean that the birds must already have mated before they went down, so the young could belong to anyone. Anyway, these are the pairs that have one egg. Pair Three This pair were already bonded in the aviary, so the chances are that the cock in here is the father. Pair Nine She looked to have an eggy vent when I put her down so this was no shock. Pair 11 Tell me if I am wrong with thinking mating to egg should be 14 days. We will see what happens. Hopefully these are the first of many eggs.
  20. One good thing I have learnt today and that is my bird room is budgie proof. There was a small gap between the door of a cage and a breeding and the Opaline Cobalt Spangle Cock from pair 3 (who is actually a son of Dumber(RIP) and nephew to Dumb) showed smarts enough to find it, slip out, and was sitting on top of another cage when I saw him. I caught him and returned him to his cage and then moved the nestbox 1 wire cage run to the left to solve the hole issue. It was quite suprising when I noticed it, but at least I could see where the problem was and it was easily rectified.
  21. Average will be $1000, so $2000 per pair, not $200!!!
  22. I love the chair he is on. very cool
  23. LOL - unfortunately some of those serious buyers will buy more than 1 pair. One pair = $2000. You going there Matt?
  24. Thanks mate. I am quite happy with the cinnamon pairing. I actually want some cinnamon pairs, and some without. I am pretty sure as I type this though that the cock in Pair 7 - grey cock, is actually split cinnamon, as he had a daughter before that was cinnamon, so it will not make too much difference I suppose.
