  1. I understand the over the limit photo thing. I am waiting for someone to respond in my thread so I can post more pics Why did you think putting Flynn with Finnie would help? Personally I think it is just made it more confusing as he has so many mutations going on.
  2. Well done Finnie. Great shots and the chicks look lovely
  3. Todays update comes with photos - YAY!!!!!!!!!  Pair 1 - Caesar and GreyGreen Hen - 3 chicks now - 2 red eyes - I was so wrong about colours it was unbelievable, but in a good way. There are 3 chicks, 2 with red eyes, we know that. We know the red eyes mean the INO gene, and that they are hens. What I didn't realise was that the hen was split blue. She was bred from a green cock and a grey green hen, and she is opaline, and we know that Caesar is a sky blue cock who is split opaline and split INO. The eldest is an opaline cock, that was not the shock, the shock is that he is either blue or grey. That is the shock. The youngest hen is a Lutino as the yellow feathers are coming through, but the eldest hen is an albino. This once more means that the hen is either split grey or blue. This means that for the hen to be split blue she would have to get it from her father, as she is a greygreen hen like her mother. I am thinking that her father is Violet Green, so his father may have been green but his mother may have been visual violet. That would explain his deep green. I love genetics and the surprises of breeding. Pair 2 - Twitch and Albino Hen - 5 chicks now - I think twitch is split blue, opaline and cinnamon. Mum (Albino) could be masking blue or grey, opaline or cinnamon. I do not know. Oldest looks sky blue whilst the next will be a normal sky blue. All 5 chicks have rings on. There are 4 blue based chicks in there and 1 green chick, the middle chick. I think they might all be cocks as I know Twitch is split opaline and none of the chicks are opaline. Of course, he has had non-opaline daughters before, so they might just be non-opaline daughters. A very busy nestbox though. I set up a little home for any chicks that left the nestbox but Twitch was checking it out, then fed Mrs Twitch Pair 3 - Son of Dumber (RIP) and daughter of Twitch - 1 chick with white down so we have a hen - she has been rung. Too early to tell the colour yet but I am thinking a grey like her Mum. Not sure if this little one is a spangle or not. I am eagerly awaiting to see how she colours up. Dad Pair 4 - Dumb and Light Green Spangle Hen - 3 chicks - Youngest got rung today. Early guesses with colours - Eldest is a white double factor spangle, 2nd eldest is a green spangle and too early to tell on the youngest, but I am leaning towards sky blue spangle. Little DF Spangle Pair 5 - GreyGreen Cinnamon Cock to Green Hen - hen has dropped her tail and does not appear overly interested in the whole breeding cycle Pair 6 - Opaline Grey to a Light Green Cinnamon Hen - first egg layed and hen is already nesting on egg Pair 7 - Grey Cock to an Opaline Grey Spangle Hen - 4 big eggs so far Pair 8 - Cobalt Cinnamon Cock to a Sky Cinnamon Hen - No movement yet - might pluck them both on the weekend. Pair 9 - YF Opaline Sky Cock to a Light Green Spangle Hen - 1 chick going very well - a green opaline hen - cannot be a cock as Mum is not opaline - this will be a big chick I think. A definite cutie. Mum obviously wants to breed again as she has cleared out the nestbox but she is no whilst the little on is in there.St Jude - well done. St Jude has layed her first egg for round two. She is quite happy for her first born to stay there but I set the chicks up with her own facilities in the bottom of the cage today. She is picking at seed and millet. I had to move her out of the nestbox as although Mum was happy for her to stay, every time I put seed in there Mum kicked it out, risking damaging the new egg, and any millet Mum ate. At least in her own little place Dad can come and feed her and she has seed and millet of her own. Mum Pair 10 - GreyGreen Cinnamon Cock to a Green Hen - a lot of preening and the like. I cannot blame the cock. As I was cleaning out cages I watched these two and he was doing all he could to mount her - Pair 11 - Sky blue cinnamon wing cock to greygreen hen - these two paired up in the aviary and were already mating. I gave them a nestbox straight away the hen went straight in there. 2 eggs layed. I keep trying to adjust the eggs so they are in the best position in the nestbox but everytime I check, Mum has moved them to a weird position. Best to leave them alone form now, mother knows best. I have more info and images but I cannot post them until someone replies due to the number of images restrictions, so help a fella out here people. Comment

Pair 12 - Green Cock to a Grey/Blue Opaline Dominant Pied Hen - 1 chick (DMC 003 12) - He is the most beautiful budgie. Sky Blue dommie pied cock. He just sits in your hand when you hold him. I have never wanted to hand raise/tame or even have an inside budgie, but when you hold him, you can easily change your mind. I was never a Dommie Pied fan and Kaz know this well, but a sky blue dommie pied has won my heart this breeding round. Pair 13 - Grey Cock to a GreyGreen Cinnamon Opaline Hen - 3 chicks - great mum - All 3 are opaline so all this tells me is that they might be cocks or hen and that Dad is split opaline. The eldest is an opaline light green, , second is an opaline sky blue cinnamon wing. The youngest is a grey. I think the oldest and youngest are hens and the middle one is a cock. It was the middle one - the sky blue cinnamon wing that did the big jump and I had to return to the nestbox. Even upon his return he tried to climb out again. He is a handful. They have their own little home set up if needed. Pair 14 - Captain Jack (Light Green Cinnamon Cock) to an Albino Hen - 6 eggs - not sure if any eggs are fertile - might be too early to tell. Pair 15 - Violet Opaline Cock to a Grey Hen - none of these eggs looked fertile and the hen saved me the trouble of cleaning them out. Garage Pair 16 - Quiche (GreyGreen Opaline Spangle Cock) to a DF White Spangle Hen - Quiche and this hen will return to the aviary on the weekend.
  5. Welcome to "Young budgie leave the nest before you are prepared to" Day. I have had to put three bird back in nestboxes as they were not ready. They had "escaped" the nestbox but should not have been out. Of course, he has had non-opaline daughters before, so they might just be non-opaline daughters. A very busy nestbox though. The second eldest and second youngest chicks jumped out of the nestbox. One looks to be a sky blue cinnamon whilst the other could well be a grey cinnamon. Hard to tell. Pair 3 - Son of Dumber (RIP) and daughter of Twitch - 1 chick with white down so we have a hen - she has been rung. Too early to tell the colour yet but I am thinking a grey like her Mum. Most aggessive Mum. I put my hand in there to check the chick and Mum went psycho - LOL. Protective. Pair 4 - Dumb and Light Green Spangle Hen - 3 chicks - too early to tell the colours. I do hope for some DF spangles in this nest. Pair 5 - GreyGreen Cinnamon Cock to Green Hen - hen has dropped her tail and does not appear overly interested in the whole breeding cycle Pair 6 - Opaline Grey to a Light Green Cinnamon Hen - first egg layed and hen is already nesting on egg Pair 7 - Grey Cock to an Opaline Grey Spangle Hen - 3 big eggs so far Pair 8 - Cobalt Cinnamon Cock to a Sky Cinnamon Hen - No movement yet - might pluck them both on the weekend. 6. I know, but I did not think to look for plum eyes, I was more about health, less about appearance. I didn't think of it at the time. Oops - made a mistake with a pair. I stated Pair 13 - Grey Cock to a GreyGreen Cinnamon Opaline Hen - 3 chicks - great mum - All 3 are opaline so all this tells me is that they might be cocks or hen and that Dad is split opaline. The eldest is a sky blue cinnamon wing, means both birds are split blue, second is also sky blue. The youngest is a grey. I think the oldest and youngest are hens and the middle one is a cock. The eldest is an opaline light green normal, the second eldest is a sky blue cinnamon and the youngest is a grey normal. Very colourful nestbox.
  7. Honestly they don't. My personality is the same in and out of the classroom. Hopefully, and I think they know this is true, I am there to help them do their best.
  8. I hate being given lip - - so no lip would be better -
  9. I think your clearwings are dilutes. I am not a clearwing breeder so I could be wrong here, but I am sure that to get a clearwing, you need to put a clearwing to a clearwing. If you put a clearwing to a normal, you get a normal/clearwing. Breeders found out that you could breed a clearwing to a dilute and get clearwings/dilute. If you breed a clearwing/dilute to a clearwing/dilute, 25% of the offspring should be visually dilutes. Now, we know that 25% is the mathematical percentage, however in this nestbox you could have 2 dilutes and 0 clearwing/dilutes. Does that make sense?
  10. Today's update surprises galore and new pics to come on the weekend Pair 1 - Caesar and GreyGreen Hen - 3 chicks now - 2 red eyes - I was so wrong about colours it was unbelievable, but in a good way. Pair 5 - GreyGreen Cinnamon Cock to Green Hen - hen has dropped her tail and does not appear overly interested in the whole breeding cycle Pair 6 - Opaline Grey to a Light Green Cinnamon Hen - hen has begun to spend more and more time in the nestbox. Hoping for that first egg in a day or two. Might just be the beginnings of an eggy bum. Pair 7 - Grey Cock to an Opaline Grey Spangle Hen - 3 eggs so far Pair 8 - Cobalt Cinnamon Cock to a Sky Cinnamon Hen - No movement yet - might pluck them both on the weekend. Pair 9 - YF Opaline Sky Cock to a Light Green Spangle Hen - 1 chick going very well - a green opaline hen - cannot be a cock as Mum is not opaline - this will be a big chick I think. Garage Pair 16 - Quiche (GreyGreen Opaline Spangle Cock) to a DF White Spangle Hen - Quiche and this hen will return to the aviary on the weekend.
  11. Sure - just important to remember where it comes from
  12. There are a couple of choices, but the one I am leaning towards is a variation of a theme of mine. I once named a bird after a Saint. I did this as the bird happily took on what I thought was ad turned out to be a lost cause. I named the bird after St Jude - the Patron Saint of Lost Causes. So I have a bird named St Jude. Since this bird is doing such a great job as a single mother, I suggest that she be named after the Patron Saint of single mothers, who since she does not really exist as the church would not want single mothers, but most prayers are offered to Saint Margaret. So I think you should name this bird who has done a "miraculos" job "St Margaret.
  13. Why would u think she was green? I just had a quick glance, and she dos not look green at all to me
  14. I actually agree with Renee. I do not like Crested as the head feathers look wrong to me, and this is very much along the same lines. I want to breed budgies, no upside down peacocks. This is where the show world is going, and this is something I find greatly DIScouraging.
  15. He lost them not long after he got to my place. He was moulting I think when he traveled and the stress of moulting and travelling combined to see him develop what looks to be French moult, and so he has no flights. That is why there is no mating - I do no think he can. If only I knew he could be AI'd, or I could do it. Maybe someone knows someone who can help me out who has done it before, in Sydney of course.
  16. not sure it is quill mites. He has lost tail feathers and flight feathers.
  17. Balance would be his biggest issue I think. I am not sure he can balance for mating
  18. I do not think it is the hen Renee. I think it is Quiche. He is a prime candidate for AI as I am not sure he can actually mate due to his feather issues.
  19. Today's update before I am off to my Weight watchers weigh in Pair 1 - Caesar and GreyGreen Hen - 3 chicks now - 2 red eyes - all just beginning to get down Pair 2 - Twitch and Albino Hen - 5 chicks now - I think twitch is split blue, opaline and cinnamon. Mum (Albino) could be masking blue or grey, opaline or cinnamon. i do not know. Oldest looks cinnamon sky blue whilst the next will be either blue or grey.4 chicks have rings on Pair 3 - Son of Dumber (RIP) and daughter of Twitch - 1 chick with white down so we have a hen - she has been rung Pair 4 - Dumb and Light Green Spangle Hen - 3 chicks - too early to tell the colours Pair 5 - GreyGreen Cinnamon Cock to Green Hen - hen is checking out the nestbox Pair 6 - Opaline Grey to a Light Green Cinnamon Hen - nestbox being examined by hen Pair 7 - Grey Cock to an Opaline Grey Spangle Hen - first egg in round 2 has been layed Pair 8 - Cobalt Cinnamon Cock to a Sky Cinnamon Hen - Hen to lay anyday now Pair 9 - YF Opaline Sky Cock to a Light Green Spangle Hen - 1 chick going very well - a green opaline hen - cannot be a cock as Mum is not opaline Pair 10 - GreyGreen Cinnamon Cock to a Green Hen - hen has checked out the nestbox Pair 11 - Sky blue cinnamon wing cock to greygreen hen - these two paired up in the aviary and were already mating. I gave them a nestbox straight away the hen went straight in there. 2 egg layed Pair 12 - Green Cock to a Grey/Blue Opaline Dominant Pied Hen - 1 chick (DMC 003 12) - Dommie pied sky blue cock? Pair 13 - Grey Cock to a GreyGreen Cinnamon Opaline Hen - 3 chicks - great mum - the eldest is a sky blue cinnamon wing, means both birds are split blue, second is also sky blue - too early to tell on the youngest Pair 14 - Captain Jack (Light Green Cinnamon Cock) to an Albino Hen - 6 eggs - not sure if any eggs are fertile - might be too early to tell. Pair 15 - Violet Opaline Cock to a Grey Hen - 7 eggs Garage Pair 16 - Quiche (GreyGreen Opaline Spangle Cock) to a DF White Spangle Hen - No movement means this paring might be scrapped altogether.
  20. Not much to report so far today. I rung two of the chicks in the nestbox of Pair 1 - the male and the eldest lutino hen. I also had to return the chick from the nestbox of Pair 9 to the nestbox. She is not ready to leave just yet as she does not have enough feather cover, still a lot of down. I will watch Mum over the next few days to see if the little one left of her own accord, or Mum thought it was a good idea. I think the earlier one actually so I am not overly worried. All other pairs without chicks are preening and the pine shavings in all nestboxes have been disturbed, so that is a good sign.
  21. I doubt there will be any more chicks in the 1st round so i will update you on where things stand as time progresses to Round 2. I will also mention colours that are becoming visible. Pair 1 - Caesar and GreyGreen Hen - 3 chicks now - 2 red eyes - all just beginning to get down Pair 2 - Twitch and Albino Hen - 5 chicks now - I think twitch is split blue, opaline and cinnamon. Mum (Albino) could be masking blue or grey, opaline or cinnamon. i do not know. Oldest looks blue whilst the next will be either blue or grey.4 chicks have rings on Pair 3 - Son of Dumber (RIP) and daughter of Twitch - 1 chick with white down so we have a hen - she has been rung Pair 4 - Dumb and Light Green Spangle Hen - 3 chicks - too early to tell the coloure Pair 5 - GreyGreen Cinnamon Cock to Green Hen - hen is soon to lay hopefully Pair 6 - Opaline Grey to a Light Green Cinnamon Hen - nestbox being examined by hen Pair 7 - Grey Cock to an Opaline Grey Spangle Hen - preening and looking for round 2 Pair 8 - Cobalt Cinnamon Cock to a Sky Cinnamon Hen - Hen to lay anyday now Pair 9 - YF Opaline Sky Cock to a Light Green Spangle Hen - 1 chick going very well - a green opaline hen - cannot be a cock as Mum is not opaline Pair 10 - GreyGreen Cinnamon Cock to a Green Hen - nestbox added Pair 11 - Sky blue cinnamon wing cock to greygreen hen - these two paired up in the aviary and were already mating. I gave them a nestbox straight away the hen went straight in there. 1 egg layed Pair 12 - Green Cock to a Grey/Blue Opaline Dominant Pied Hen - 1 chick (DMC 003 12) - Dommie pied sky blue cock? Pair 13 - Grey Cock to a GreyGreen Cinnamon Opaline Hen - 3 chicks - great mum - the eldest is a sky blue, means both birds are split blue, second might also be blue, or could be grey - too early to tell on the youngest Pair 14 - Captain Jack (Light Green Cinnamon Cock) to an Albino Hen - 6 eggs - not sure if any eggs are fertile - might be too early to tell. Pair 15 - Violet Opaline Cock to a Grey Hen - 7 eggs Garage Pair 16 - Quiche (GreyGreen Opaline Spangle Cock) to a DF White Spangle Hen - No movement means this paring might be scrapped altogether.
  22. have i ever well today i spent all day trying to water proof my flight from outside we look to be having a big storm soon so i will see if it worked its very dodge but im all about dodge lol well how else can i do it as im just one person and dodge or not if it works then it does simply that im going to put pics up but first im going to feed birds and give them fresh water for the night please dont laugh at my attempt The fact that you are making an attempt, dodgy or not, means that people should never laugh at your attempt. I know how difficult it can be at time to get things done on your own... and I am generally healthy....generally. I am proud of you for putting your hand up and saying you need help. Well done. Sometimes our pride gets in the way of asking for help, and like the saying says, "pride goeth before a fall". Well done GB.
  23. Great looking hen Kaz, I would be happy to have her in the my flock
  24. Has the hen been running with the cock. Because 2 hours,is not long enough. Lucky you are here Macka or I would not have known - Yes, they have been paired up in the aviary for a little while now and if any other cock even goes near this hen, the cock shoo's them away very fast. To continue on,had you not moved them from the Avery, she would of layed on the floor. Will be interesting,to see if the egg is fertile & if it is to that cock, will you be able to tell,if they hatch. Will have to keep us informed Dave, Seems you are not keeping up with reading this thread Macka. The hen had already thrown the egg out, so there will no hope of fining out if the egg would have ended up fertile. She has layed a new egg tonight and she is already sitting on this egg. Let's hope this one see out its full duration. The pair, as I said, were bonded in the aviary and there had been a hen laying an egg off a perch before this pair were added to the breeding shed. This pair looks the most promising of all the new pairs. We will see what develops with the others.
  25. I am starting to look at the colours that are beginning to emerge on the little ones. Pair 1 - Caesar and GreyGreen Hen - 3 chicks now - 2 red eyes. Too young to tell colours but all INO's should be Lutino's as Mum is the offspring of a Green and a GreyGreen, so she is not split blue. Nice that all three offspring will be split blue. Pair 2 - Twitch and Albino Hen - 5 chicks now - I think twitch is split blue, opaline and cinnamon. Mum (Albino) could be masking blue or grey, opaline or cinnamon. I do not know. Oldest looks like a sky blue whilst the next looks to be either sky or grey. Too early to tell on the youngest three. Pair 12 - Green Cock to a Grey/Blue Opaline Dominant Pied Hen - 1 chick (DMC 003 12) - Dommie pied grey cock?
