Babbieesss
A bird cannot be part spangle. It is a dominant gene. The bird is either spangle or not. What breeding boxes are in the aviary? What parrots do you have in there with your budgies? What parrot nest boxes? This is all my opinion this next sentence, but the more you say, the more concerned I am.

Question About Boiled Egg...
of course you can give it to daken. There are a lot of preservatices in baby food so you are better to peel an apple, decore it, then give it to them.

Desperatly Need Help
Is he moulting? Often birds will bite or be defensive when they are moulting. Has anything changed ins his world? How old is he? Sometimes, as silly as this seems, it might be hormonal. He might have the puberty blues.

My Aviary....start To Finish
okay, going trhough some points 1) Well done on the sale of the old house. I told you it would all work out okay in that regard 2) The breeding room concept is being taken very literally here with you, but I think it is a good idea. I am setting mine up next week as I have been so busyk everything has been on the backburner here - the problem of single life in some ways. 3) I am looking forward to seeing the pairs you are going to put down.

Winter Breeding
It very much depends where you live and your set up. Winter breeding in a tropical climate is not as big a concern as winter breeding in a climate that can get very cold. I know that during winter Goulburn can have some ral cold days and especially nights. I would not recommend it unless you ahve an insulated breeding setup

Help...leg Ring Infection
Stopping the bleeding is the big thing. If he is biting it, you might need to bandage it up to protect it. How is he now? I have only just read this, sorry I was not on earlier, or even yesterday.

Question about food
There are some basic rules. Lettuce is a no no as it is something like 97% water. You are much better with spinach or silverbeet. As for veges, some are a no no. Things like apple seeds are bad, so avoid them. I am sure there is a list on here somewhere however the good ones to go with off the top of my head are spinach or silverbeet, corn, beetroot and carrot. All these should be fresh, not the tinned variety.

Sick Budgie?
Whilst it is hard to diagnose what it wrong with a bird on line, there are some simple guesses some people may make. You said was a prolific egg layer but she is now 5. I know that being a 5 year old hen, her breeding days are past her. You may know this. Unfortuantely she may not know this. She might be of the opinion that laying eggs is a good idea, however her body is past it. She sees the nestboxes and so she thinks she can still do it. Birds will stop trying to lay egg when there is no where to lay them. Having her in an aviary with nestboxes is not good for her. The pooey vent is a sure sign that something is wrong. What can you do to help her? Well, if she is trying to lay an egg but her body does not form them properly, then she might need some nutiritonal assistance. Put her in a seperate cage inside for a week. Hot lamp, keep the cage covered on 3 of the 4 sides, and in her water put some calcivet. This will help her with the forming of the egg. Is her rump swollen? I am trying to ascertain if she has an egg internally/egg bound? Ultimately, the best way to find out what is wrong is to take her to an avian vet. Everything else is really guess work. I am sure that Kaz or some of our other WA members would be able to recommend a good avian vet in Perth.

Lot 244(I think) - 10 Normal Cobalt by Luxton & Reeve - $10 bird for my nephews (front bird) okay, I think that is right now. As for the turn out, it looked a little down, however I was speaking to a few people from the ACT who had made the trip up. One thing I really found disappointing was that the breeders of some birds were there and when their bird came up for auction, they bid on the their own bird. If they win, it costs them nothing, and they can really push up the bid of their bird in a way that I personally think is unfair. A friend of mine stated that once he sees a person bid on their own bird, he will not bid on any bird of theirs. I agree with that. That is a rule I think that needs to be changed. Have the owner put in a bid if they want, but only one bid per bird. Not every second bid. If they want to keep their birds and sell them at a certain price, do not put them in an auction that has a reserve of $10.

Brasea Auction
Yesterday was the BRASEA auction at Revesby in NSW. This is an annual event that has birds up for auction from mainly NSW breeders, but also some breeders from Interstate such as Harro from ACT, Ken Dunk from Qld and a few others. Always a large auction, there were 365 birds registered for auction and prices rnaged from $10 upto about $750. John Hewitts DF Spangles and Albinos seemed to be the most popular item, with his success as the national last year helping to push his prices up. There were some very good birds there and no one who purchased a bird could have been disappointed. I went looking for a few good birds, but was not going to spend hundreds on anyone bird. The only bird that I bid anything over $200 was a Geoff and Ann Hand Cinnamon Grey Opaline Hen 2010 bird that went for $300, and a dommie pied version that went for $525. I prefered the $300 bird, but it was too expensive for me. I bought a number of birds, with quite a few cinnamon birds I noticed. A few from Geoff and Ann Hand, a Hewitt, a few from Cliff Cameron, a Gregoriou, (Gregoriou and Hewitt are based on Scoble Bloodlines and I already have a few from Hewitt and Gregoriou) and a nice Troy Holmes (SA) Hen. I have some pics so I will write where they are from as well as their details. 1. Lot # 17 - 09 Cinnamon Violet Skyblue Hen from Cedic D'Costa (back Bird) 2. Lot #72 - 10 Cinnamon Sky Hen from Cliff Cameron (middle bird) 3. Lot #73 - 10 Cinnamon Grey Cock from Cliff Cameron 4. Lot #79 - 09 Albino Hen from Joe Elias 5. Lot #98 - 10 Cinnamon Sky split Lacewing from Wall Capper 6. Lot #105 - 10 Cinnamon Sky Hen from Cedic D'Costa Photo to come 7. Lot #210 - 10 Grey Opaline Spangle Hen from Troy Holmes - (back bird) 8. Lot $246 - 08 Normal Green Hen from Cliff Cameron - (a sleeping shot) 9. Lot #277 - 08 Light Green Normal Cock bred by Greg Gregoriou 10. Lot #280 - 10 White DF Spangle bred by John Hewitt 11. Lot #356 - 10 Sky Cinnamon Cock by Cliff Cameron (back right bird) 12. Lot 244(I think) - 10 Normal Cobalt by Luxton & Reeve - $10 bird for my nephews (front bird) So all up it was a long day, especially for the birds. The birds were a bit tired and stressed so the shots are not the best. I will get better shots in the future, but overall there were some nice birds there. Will these birds dominate my breeding program? No. They are stock birds, but the blue and cinnamon are needed in my aviary, so we will see where this goes. I know the idea of keeping bloodlines together, and I am mainly doing that. I just noticed that these are the first pics I have loaded up this year. Shame on me. Many mor epics in many more threads to come.
