  1. Very little to go on there. Has there been any water in the aviary? Were they thin (keelbone able to be felt) when they died? What were their faeces like? Pooey bums? How did you treat them? Did you put them inside under a warm lamp? Did you take them to a vet? Were they regurgitating food? So much we do not know, and even if we knew, only a vet could really disagnose the cause of their deaths
  2. Glad to see you opening up on here, and being very introspective and self-analytical. I am a work in progress, so it will take some time before I do my own version of self-analytical publication. Good job though.
  3. Welcome to the forum. I look forward to seeing the photos
  4. Good luck and we are all looking forward to the pics
  5. I am in agreement with Kaz and the others who are supporting the Show and Pet names. Imagine the outrage that would have occurred if we renamed the "America's Cup" "Australia's Cup" in 1983 when we became the first country to take it off the Americans in 130+ years? Imagine if we called all our animals at the zoo by their place of birth? I would love to go Taronga Zoo in Sydney and see the three baby Australian elephants. Wait, are they not Asian elephants? No, they were born in Australia, made popular to Aussie people in Australia, raised in Australia, therefore they are not Asian elephants, they are Australian elephants! What about the Sydney Tiger Cubs? They are the cutest thing I have seen. I went to Dubbo and saw a very young Australian Bison? Don't you mean American Bison? No no, this one was born and popularised in Australia, so it is an Australian Bison. Dumb arguments I proposed above, about as dumb as calling them English and American Budgerigars. The idea is dumb here people, I am not personally insulting people so no one should be offended. I agree we need to correct people when things were wrong. If we did not, then we would still believe that the Earth is the centre of the universe, the world is flat and many other ridiculous notions.
  6. Some awesome birds. I would love to see them in one years time when they have filled out a bit more. Ideal for the "before and after" threads.
  7. Dad's become the dominant parent in regard to feeding at about 2-3 weeks if I recall correctly. If Mum is injuring the chicks, remove her. Dad should be fine.
  8. New

Welcome, and thanks for "outing" yourself.
  9. Wow, the more I read, the more I went, what bad luck! I do agree with GB in a way though - breeding budgies can be a test of character. I have toughened up a lot. One of my first topics in here many years ago was called "Kind Landlord or Cruel God" and it was about throwing away some eggs form a bird that had started breeding in the aviary seed catcher dish. My thoughts and opinions have changed so much since that time. It does get easier, although some days........ I was impressed reading that you picked up the snake. You are braver than me!!!! I hope you have greater success with your breeding from here on in.
  10. Did you take them down in the Turano? I know Petrol is dear and running the hearses are not cheap, but you almost needed to use the hearses to transport them all didn't you? I have driven a long way with birds in the car - up to Deb's once up - and it is loud. I find when birds starting fighting with each other for room and chirping aggressively, I turn into the parent saying "cut that out you two, there is no need for silliness". I was dying to say "you should have gone before we left" but I never had the chance - Good to see Lib out and about. First time I have seen pics of Lib out and about. Very pleasing.
  11. looks good so far Kaz
  12. Do you have any photos you can share, perhaps a before and after shot? I know of blue budgies goign aqua/green, but I am yet to hear of a turquoise going yellow. Any pics would help us solve the riddle.
  13. A lot of us have been there with rats and/or mice. Blocking off the access is the first and most important move you have made. Next, baiting, which you have done. Good luck. I know how frustrating it is.
  14. Everything living can suffer because of the heat. I kept misting mine yesterday, and it was greatly appreciated by them. My youngest dog Tess had a fit in the heat yesterday. Terrifying to watch. I cooled her after, but she was inside and all when it happened. Everything can be affected. Just do the best you can, and it sound like you did.
  15. Cinnamon can have different levels of washing body colour out. Some cinnamons remain bright, whilst others lose their brightness, as if they are diluted. Both birds are cinnamon, and yes, it is possible that first bird in question is violet. Hard to tell off the screen.
  16. Dad can get a little confused at times, and it may seem like Dad's are trying to breed with youngsters, but it is just a passing thing. Leave Dad's with youngsters, removing Mum is the key
  17. Dad is acting this way as he wants to breed again. You should not remove Dad, rather you should remove Mum. Dads are the Primary care givers at this point in time, so remove MUm to a seperate cage (not back in an aviary as she needs to build up her strength) but leave Dad with the chicks to feed and raise them. Do not put Mum's cage right next to Dad or he will be "distracted" from looking after the young.
  18. If you want to have the hen have a 2nd clutch, and it looks like the young might be attacked, you need to ensure the young are feeding thmeselves, then they can be removed from the cage. If they are not feeding themselve yet, you can place them in an icecream container on the floor of the cage, with a seed base to encourage the to pick at the seed, and then the hen can lay in the box, but dad should also come down and feed the young, which eh shoudl be doing now.
  19. I have read this thread so many times and all I keep coming up with is the same question - why would you want to give your birds Nori paper? I know, nutirents, but there are so many other things you could use. Maybe it is because I love Sushi so much that I cannot help bu wonder why you would waste Nori like this?!?!?!?
  20. okay, it is hard to tell the mutations because there is only one picture, and the picture of Houdini makes it particularly difficult to tell, but.... Houdini - based on my guessing, I would say he is a light green greywing Tex - based on my guessing, I would say Opaline TCB in the green series. If this is right, the chicks in the nest will be all TCB as it is dominant to greywing, but all the chicks will be split greywing, with the cocks also split opaline. From the sounds of the chicks, they both sound opaline, which would indicate that Houdini is split opaline and both your chicks are opaline, so they may be either hens or cocks. I think that is right. help me out here people
  21. Any ring registers on here who can help find a bird rung in (what state?) with the code PH1? If you want to remain anonymous to the rest of us, send Ratzy a pm with the info
  22. Are you sure it was the hen scrambling and cracking? Cocks often can be clumsy
