  1. Thanks all. It has been really hard, but worth it. I wouldn't have it at all, if not for Karen and Ken. It was Karen who found the ad for me. Then a lovely lady who preferred to sell it to me even though she had never met me. It turns out that she understands how tough it is in a disabled world, as her son is mentally disabled. While we were picking it up one of my former carers turned up to pick up her son for the night (small world). Then I had the assistance of Karen and Ken and a host of other helpful souls to get it home and up my driveway. I really as very lucky to have such caring, giving people in my life. I had dinner at next to the aviary last night and I can see that many meals will be spent there surrounded by birdsong. Feathers.
  2. Good luck with the bub, Bea. With any luck Mum will start to feed it soon.
  3. Baby Budgies :bluebudgie:
  4. They are all getting to be so grown up :bluebudgie: So cute.
  5. Your babies are beautiful, as are your new additions :bluebudgie: They are very hard to resist, aren't they?
  6. You are kidding, right Just because he is big and beautiful... and my daughter and I want to steal him away :bluebudgie: You taking him to budgie club this weekend as an UBC (unbroken cap or nestfeather) Feathers.
  7. Nearly there.Got so much done today. This is the aviary in position ready to get started. This is the bamboo lattice that we found to use as perches in the aviary. We split it in half to put 2 up More toys go in Some Peppermint leaves ready to greet the budgies One of the last jobs - putting mesh in this window to separate the end section from the main aviary section. A few more toys and rope perches left to do. With any luck the birds should be in tomorrow night or Wednesday. :bluebudgie: Feathers
  8. Hiya Turbs. I am situated in Perth's foothills area, so we get hugely gusty easterlies overnight, that race in from the outback. It will be very securely bolted down. It is under my patio and has a layer of shadecloth protecting it as well, but I don't want to take the chance of it shifting. I am sealing the bottom with a builders 'glue' too. I have 24 birds that will go into the aviary, some when they finish their quarantine. That will free up my biggest cage for our two special kids, Pascale and Chik'n. They love the extra attention and cuddles that they get. [claps hands and jumps up and down] I would be soo honoured to have a name plate created by you. You are so talented. I will pm you. The cage is now in position and looks so good, especially now the plastic has been taken off the front. Now it just needs a fitout, ready for my budgies to go in. The count down is on to BBD (Big Budgie Day).
  9. You definitely wished hard enough, he is a very striking colour. That lutino is also a really strong colour. Great pairing, Karen. Feathers.
  10. They are gorgeous, I can't wait to see the YF2 in person. He looks like a stunner, great names. Sorry about causing you new additions But thanks for the feeders picture and info 2k's is just about close enough for me to bum a lift to Feathers.

What a great setup so far. Amazingly good job Daz. Can't wait to see the flight. Feathers.
  12. Hi Bea, I think it would be great for Tim. This is a kid who you had to 'talk into' letting him have a quarantined bird in his room. Next thing we know he is absolutely loving Bailee and has him on his shoulder. It's about time he had some responsibility for another living being. Tim, that is where you are wrong. Bea has had to supply the food that the babies eat that they in turn feed to the babies. It has also cost Bea time in caring for the nesting parents, and now the growing family. I am not saying whether you should or shouldn't pay, but you need to realise that there is more cost to an animal than just feeding it Feathers.

Hi Tim, great to see you posting. I was impressed with how you took to Bailee. Good luck with getting the baby budgies that you desire. Feathers.
  14. Shade cloth up and aviary scrubbed out. Need to go get a couple of budgies tomorrow from PaulH and Bubbles, but should have time to move the aviary to it's final position and start getting it prepared for tenants. Now I am just working out the best way to add Bubbles 'for sale' aviary Feathers.

Hmm, that is a very nice size for a breeding room, freeing up my other end for toddlers.. It is sooo very tempting.
  16. I use this with all my birds and they mostly settle very quickly. You let them tunnel from hand to hand. With really bitey females I use gloves until she stops wanting to bite, then take them off and continue. You do not need to hold the birds tightly to do this, but make sure you are in a room they can't get out of in case they wiggle free. Feathers.
  17. Kerrie, just keep handling them so that they gain confidence. The more you work with them the better they will get. Feathers.

I'm with Hurdy, definitely a boy. Feathers.
  19. That is tomorrow when I visit Paul Thanks for finding me that pretty Texan - Cammie (name from Coyote Ugly, great idea from Karen). That is my daughter's job.. She is a better sneak than me. Thanks Birdluv. The lady who sold it was really lovely and she was happy to sell it to me. She told me not to pay the full price, but to make an offer How did you guess? Actually last night we went to see the opening of the Perth Art Festival. Was lovely, the Australian Youth Orchestra accompanying a new animated version of Peter and the Wolf, following a tribal welcome to the land and the festival by the traditional owners of this land - Noongar Aboriginals. I love Prokofiev's music. As for the aviary. My son, Nathan is just putting up the shade cloth for where it is being moved to. Then it will be put up on a flat fridge board (with wheels) and a couple of skateboards to be shifted. Then we will be in full gear anchoring it, sealing the bottom, putting in new mesh to separate off the breeding area. A good clean with viegar and it will be ready to set up with perches and toys for the birdies to go in Whoopeee!! a still excitable feathers. Feathers
  20. Precious photos, she is so gorgeous like that. Feathers.
  21. I am loving your green normal. I have decided that is what I need more of. Big green males for breeding, I have a couple of blues. You never know, AUstralia might follow the UK's lead and ban all gathering of birds too. Which makes this 'breeding for size and health' an even better idea at the moment. Feathers.
  22. Aww, I love their little leg rings That is the most exciting part Besides the rings they are the next best thing though... Feathers.
  23. Yay, Way to go Sadie and Slick. What a great job they have done. Smudge is very a very handsome youngster. Feathers.
  24. Geez, you think you are just so funny, don't you? But, umm, actually I was going to book the builder to knock out a wall so we could get it in next week. :(Laughing out loud): Oh, yeah, I thought of Feathers Flight too. More decisions. And you are right about the aerie, it is also spelt 'eyrie', 'aery' and 'eyry'. Hmm, Aly's Eyrie. It is very nice, Nerwen I was wondering how much you would charge if I commissioned you to do a name plate Feathers
  25. Oh my goodness, that is really sad.
