  1. Kerrie, how awful If a car was there Thursday and they had left earlier, then maybe the car belonged to whoever they have asked to look after their place. We have been having a LOT of very hot days here. If they checked the food, maybe, being inexperienced, they thought the birds had plenty of seed, when there was only husks left. As has been said, they can survive for a week without water, but start to die after 8 hours without seed. They need food in their crops. If this is a case of negligence I hope they get charged with all 54 counts of animal cruelty I can't imagine facing the horror of losing all of my budgies like that . Feathers.
  2. I know.. so fast... they are just loving all the attention I told Jacquie to get Chik'n out and do some tunnelling with him... that was the result. Feathers.
  3. SO cute... mine love pegs a as well... no one labels what is a toy and what isn't! Feathers.
  4. Hi guys, Thought I would share some photos that I took earlier this afternoon, while we were having 'budgie time' with our special needs kids, Pascale and Chik'n. This is Jacquie with the very rare "Pocket Budgie" Pascale went a climbing - on Jacquie... "hmmmm, This looks like a cozy spot" "You right in there?" "Yes thanks" Chik'n having Jacquie time Two in the Hand.... Chik'n in bed.... deep under cover
  5. A very hard question, Madeline. Their natural environment is Australia's dry arid desserts. The temperature out there can get to 45 + (113 Fahrenheit) and at night it can plummet to below 10 degrees (50 Fahrenheit). Of course in the wild the sick or injured birds would die in these extremes. Most budgies seem to cope with the heat, but hens and their offspring would need to be kept as cool as possible during the very hot times. Feathers.
  6. That would be great, as that is what I was getting at, he has the same great bloodlines and could be a brother or son to a champion bird.
  7. My area hit 41 degrees today (105.8 degrees Fahrenheit), :grbud: and tomorrow is supposed to be hotter, so those mummy birdies and babies are going to be needing their cooler.
  8. Hi welcome to the forum. I can relate to your name :grbud: I agree with Nerwen on the sex, definitely looks like a male from that photo. Would love to see the rest of your flock as well. Feathers.
  9. Thanks Chryso.... I especially loved the flowers sticking out of the top of Milly (picture 6)... did Squee get them for her?? :grbud:
  10. You've done so well raising them. It is great to see them fledging. Feathers.
  11. It just means that she is coming out of breeding condition.
  12. Definitely a show bird. With birds like this it is possible they come from a champion family but just don't make the grade (because of flecking etc). He still has the same good bloodlines in him though. Feathers.
  13. She is super stunning
  14. Nothing that I am aware of Most bird medications are pretty specific to the condition. Sorry I can't offer any other help. Feathers.
  15. Hey are you calling 2 of my newest and cutest babies issues?? Pascale head bobs when he is playing with Jacquie now You and Jacquie have "MAGIC".....it's bird heaven at your place They do seem to be lovin' life over here
  16. The fluorescent cheeks would explain how I was able to see my daughter's albino's cheek patches today. They are a brighter white than the rest of her. Feathers.

  18. Most budgies like getting as high as they can, it feels safer to them. Maybe the top of the swing is the highest place he can comfortably perch? He must be happy there if he is relaxed enough to sleep. Feathers.
  19. I have a very bossy female and when she really starts going off at another bird I usually make a load noise by dropping a book of something on the floor. That usually distracts them and the bickering is forgotten. Feathers.

My birds are only let out in my room and they love flying from cage to curtain top and around the room. I am sure yours will love it too! They will be fitter and happier given free flying time Feathers.
  21. Just to throw a spanner in the works... Is it possible that he is mauve (which looks like steel grey - i.e has that blue tinge) Just a random thought. Feathers.
  22. but of course!! :D [heads to the pics thread] Feathers.
  23. I know how hard it is to afford vet bills - I'd take them anyway and explain that you are in a bit of a bind financially at the moment. The vet may reduce his fees or let you pay it off. The male may have been feeding her because she is sick. Are you able to quarantine her in case she passes on disease to your male? Feathers.

Julie, that is really sad, I am so sorry. Give your son a hug for me I am sure he feels just terrible (my son accidentally lost one of mine recently and I know how badly he was feeling). Feathers.
  25. Way to go Beeper
