My First Show Results
Thanks Rob. The reason Karen and I get on so well is that we are so similar. When we get involved in things we don't usually do it half way. We both put our ears to the ground and listen. I spend as much time at the club meetings talking to experienced exhibitors as I do just listening to other converstations gleaning every tiny bit of info and tricks of the trade as I can. Karen is the same and in our drives and online chats we get plenty of time to pass on any tips the other may have missed. Then we have all the amazing advice that Hath and Daz post here all the time (Thanks guys). And I have learnt huge amounts from Karen herself, we will see just how much attention I have been paying when I start my breeding program. I will start with a batch of pet type birds that I wanted to breed up in size using PaulH's birds. Then around June/July I will begin breeding show birds that will hopefully be capable of holding their own in the novice section next year. Very encouraging, I didn't expect any real result because of the lack of preparation, thanks to a lot of your info I knew how important that was. Thankfully both birds were quite well show cage trained before I got them. I have found most people that I have approached in the higher levels are quite willing to spend a little time in assisting us. For that I am extremely grateful. Thanks all for your support. As Daz said, go BBC. Feathers.

My First Show Results
After having just arrived back from Melbourne I wasn't going to bench any birds this month as I had no time to prepare them, but I changed my mind last night after Karen convinced me she had a couple of spare cages so I ended up putting in 2 birds today (after hurriedly washing the DF Spangle last night as he was dirty). This DF Spangle cock won 1st place in the novice category While this Albino hen won 1st place albino and best novice bird in show So very good results for a last minute decision and considering I left better birds at home.Would be interesting to see how well they would show given some preparation. It is a pretty special place we have here....

Pretty & Merlin
Lovey, I can't get over how fast it was. You are an amazing person to put up this post and be open to any questions. Even in your grief you are still thinking about making it a learning experience for others. I don't have an opinion on wing clipping, but knowing how much your love your birds, I know you clipped Merlin with HIS health and safety in mind. My thoughts are with your and your family. *hugz* Feathers

I Have Some Very, Very Sad News!
Oh lovey, I am so very sorry. Maybe a little of Pretty's spirit will live on in Maleka (my pretty lookalike). I truly hope so as he was a special bird. My deepest sympathies. I don't know how you managed such a courageous reply as I was in tears reading through this post, especially with the poems that have been put in. I haven't been here long, but you and your beautiful boys were a special part of the family of birds that we have here. My heart goes out to you. Feathers.

Warrior Princess Killed Two...help!
PLEASE tell me that you have retired this overworked, poor, stressed hen :budgiedance: The ongoing saga for this poor budgie was just heartrenching to read. She needs some R&R, and lots of vitamins and minerals with some good quality seed and LOTS of fresh vegies.. especially dark green leafy vegetables, brocolli, carrots and fresh corn. If I was her I'd be ripping the heads of my proposed partners too, just to get a little rest. :ausb: Feathers.

My Newest Babes
okay, so I know I haven't introduced you to budgies no. 18 - 26 yet, but I haven't been able to spend much time on the 'puter lately, and these photos are ready to go These budgies came from a show breeder who have given me an awful lot of tips in the last week. A few of them are suitable for the show bench now: Olive Opaline Cock Normal Grey Cock Lutino Hen Grey-Green Opaline Spangle Cock Lutino Hen Cinnamon Grey Hen (Really nice bird) Double Factor Spangle Hen (Great Mask Length) Grey-Green Spangle Hen (one of the best) Yellow Double Factor Spangle Cock I'll put the other ones up soon. Dec
Two show birds I bought yesterday I thought were Black Eyed Selfs (DEC), but I have changed my mind and reclassified them as Double Factor Spangles. I have sent an email to the breeder to confirm this. This one has very clear iris rings Feathers.

Routine Meds
Mine are currently on a week long course of Coccivet, which is given through their water. As all of my birds have come from such a wide variety of sources, I want to make sure that they are not carrying anything unexpected before I start a breeding program. Following the coccivet they will go onto probotics. Mine will also be wormed at some stage prior to breeding. Aly
