Looooooooooooong Overdue!
Here's the picture I promised of the cage covered up. Sorry it looks so dark. It was in bright daylight but it seems all my shots inside in that room look dark.

Heeellllppppp!
With finches (as I don't have any experience with breeding budgies), you're not supposed to do the oil thing. Here's a good explanation that I got from the zebrafinch yahoo group. I don't know if it will help or not, but I can't see it harming anything.

Noise Level
That pretty much sounds like the "Tango" we have here. When I'm home during on the weekend, I notice her singing a lot. Very pretty little song stuff. The odd ack-ack sound, but that's usually only for a second and it's done. She seems to be one happy little budgie. Not sure I'd have appreciated her as much if she was a 'squawker'.

Looooooooooooong Overdue!
Looking good there Kirby. I like that first bird as well. Very pretty. Kirby seems a very handy person. You should see the cage cover he and his mom made for the cage that I got with Tango. What seller was it that you bought from on Ebay? (pm me with it). It looks like a nice cage.

Update On Tango
NO! She's too pretty to go back.... I really need to work with her more. She's in a fairly high traffic area of the house. But that only bothered her a bit on the first day. She's settled down very nicely.

Update On Tango
okay, here's a little update on Tango. I got her from Kirby a few weeks ago. She's doing very well. She's acclimated to our house well, except for not wanting to train at all. Our daughter loves to watch Tango. She sits near her and keeps calling "Tango, Tango" like Taaaango, Taaaango. When Tango does a loud call, she says " Tango, why are you so noisy?" Below is a couple of quick shots.

Dutch Dominant Pied
Very interesting pied bird. Question: What sort of result would you get if you crossed a Dutch pied with a dominant pied?

Meet Bobby!

Tango
ACA is the American Cichlid Association. They have an annual convention in different cities every year. This year is near Chicago. So you're right! Let's see, for us to get to your house was about 3 1/2 hrs. It's around an hour to London for us, so I'd say approximately 2 1/2 hrs for you to get to Exeter. Can you send me a pm with the blue spangle breeders name? We might get a blue spangle at some point to hang around with Tango. :fear Sorry to hear Oscar is missing his friend, but at least he has the rope! :fear

Tango
No extra taming time with her yet. Just the odd times when I'm around her. I'll talk to her and put my hand in the cage. Still very flighty, but she's slowly getting used to that. I can't do the 5-8 a day thing. I work during the day you know... ;-). I am working on it though.

Tango
When Kathleen came home yesterday, she had to go and hurry up to see Tango of course. Tango fluttered a bit, then starting "chirping" at her. Kathleen is very excited about Tango. She's very good about trying not to startle her (as good as a 4 year old can be). She does not pester any of the pets, and generally listens when we tell her not to do something that scares them. Kirby, I'll let you know about the baby budgie after. I do like the blues better. Ken REALLY wants a purple budgie. You know the ones I mean, not the violets that look blue, but the ones that look purple. I like those ones too. I want to see how Tango fits in. So far so good though. :fear It would have been nice to see your other budgies, but I didn't want to intrude since I figured you guys were waiting for us so you could go out yet. I took the mirror out at lunch. She didn't seem to hang around it too much, but I figured it's better if she got used to us, not herself! I didn't know that about the chest on budgies, but she didn't back off or bite so I figured it was okay. I only 'pet' her a couple of times so I didn't annoy her. Next time, I'll try for the neck area. Millet is a treat for most of our birds. They aren't trainable, so they just happen to get it when it's time for a treat, or they have babies. Got a couple of zebra babies, but their parents aren't the best feeders. Though, they will pick one or two out of their clutch to raise. Guess we see how that goes. Our best parental pair has laid some new eggs recently so in a week or so we should see babies.

New Budgie...
Got the update in the photo section of course. Was very nice meeting you and your mother today. She must be very understanding if you'll be able to get another budgie so soon after getting rid of one. (Laughing out loud) She's a very cute budgie and I can't wait to see how she fits in when she's comfortable here.

Tango
She's doing well. I haven't taken her out of the cage yet. But I did stay near her for quite a while, and then stuck my hand in to see how she reacted. A bit flighty at first, but she settled down after she realized I wasn't leaving. Eventually I was 'petting' her chest and her toes. I didn't want to force the situation with her knowing it's all strange to her right now. I cleaned everything in the cage. I know you did already for me , but I do that for every new critter that I have. I guess it's just a quirk of mine. She has a new huge piece of millet (10" long) hanging in her cage that she's had some of already. It was the smallest piece in the box of millet we just got. Last I looked she was admiring herself in the mirror. Oh, and thanks for the info on the paper you gave. Most people would not have done that. I appreciate it!

Tango
I just now got home with Tango. I'd like to thank Nathan for being very helpful and having such a nice looking bird. She's more yellow than I expected. Makes her prettier to me. I've uploaded a few pics of Tango so Kirby can see she made it home just fine! She was good about the trip and only got a little scared when I took the cover off the cage. Going to go up and be with her for a while.....

Some Baby Bird Show Pics
I had to try sooo many times to get a decent picture of the bird who took second. He kept going to the bottom of the show cage, and that's wood so basically he was hidden. I think I snuck that picture of him that did finally work.

Hi From Canada
I'll do my best. It should be okay, considering the menagerie we have already. Thanks for the welcome.

Some Baby Bird Show Pics
A few weeks ago, our local club held a baby bird show. I took a few pics of the birds there. There weren't alot of entries, but it's mainly to give an idea on how a show works, and to let the public know about the club. Blue budgie 1st place 2nd place 3rd place

Hi From Canada
No, Tango is a good name, and I don't want to confuse her. Kirby, is your tank right in front of a window or something? The only other reason you'd get so much algae is if you're feeding your fish too much, or have too many in the tank. I know the algaecide works, but what will happen is all that dead algae gives off nutrients to work up to a new algae bloom. That's why I don't use them. Find the root cause of the problem, and deal with that. Then it goes away. Oh, and Kirby, don't change 80%. That's very stressful on the fish. Do maybe 50%. (Laughing out loud) When I want green water I can never make it happen! Green water is great fry food for fish with very small babies. :sport:

Hi From Canada
Sorry to hear that Celeste. I'd be more than a little angry with a room-mate that did that to my fish. Nerwen, as Kirby mentions, I'm coming up to get Tango sometime soon. Phoebe, I find it interesting that most fish keepers go one of two ways it seems. They either get birds or they go into reptiles too. I like the look of reptiles, but I don't want any! Whew Kirby, don't know on the fish. I'll have to see them first Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

Hi From Canada
Your blue guy looks like a Sciaenochromis fryeri (electric blue). That sucks your roommate killed them. I sure hope it was by accident. How come you didn't get any more?
